I like this new idea for a series. I don't make mixed drinks but when I am at a bar and they don't have a good selection of quality scotches it will be good to know what to order as a mixed drink.

Grants Family Reserve is my preferred scotch to use with Drambuie for a Rusty Nail, delicious.
@Scotch4Dummies6 жыл бұрын
I thought about starting off with a Rusty Nail but thought it may be too cliche. That seems like the only cocktail people know is made with scotch. I'm sure it will end up in the series somewhere though. -Shawn

Love the stuff you guys have been pumping out, Grant's usually costs around $40 bucks here in Australia so its that's a standard price a "cheap" scotch...we pay so much tax on alcohol here... :(

Thanks for watching Zack. We try to keep things interesting and this one was fun to do. Sorry you get hit with the high taxes. We are always amazed at the price difference around the world. I don't know why the governments always go after the booze. -Shawn

Grant's was my go-to scotch before I decided to branch out and try as many different whiskies as possible...

And now....where does it fall on your "go to" list? It's kind of a trick question, as I literally poured myself a JW Black last night which used to be my go-to nightly dram.... I was so pleasantly surprised with it and it brought back that old familiar happy feeling! LOL, ~Mark

Nowadays I blend my Grant's family Reserve 50-50 with Hiram Walker's Special Old. I often start my flight there. It cuts out the graininess of the Grant's while adding a lot of caramel and toffee and increases the complexity. One of my subscribers gave me the recipe in a comment... Another *great* blend is 1/3 Cutty Sark Prohibition to 2/3 Famous Grouse Smoky Black. It's a bang for the buck experience worth more than what the bottles cost put together.

New series! Hot dang! Love it boys!! 👌🥃👌. Super interesting to hear the background music. Been thinking of doing that for my whisky reviews too! Cheers!

grants is among worst cheap scotches. i'd better buy some cheap single malts (Mc'Clellands, Shieldaig, Auchentoshan) for same price. or just buy vodka

Sipper beware with the G. Cask Edition (FLAT Sherry), it has the most weird nausea nose: uncooked dry squid smell blended with oninion combined with uncleaned stale cigarette ash tray. G. cask Edition = Unpleasant arroma, period. Taste is VERY Bland, watery, especialy with that puking note. To the point that had to pour it to the sink. Lower shelf $ tag doesn't mean have to come with uncooked dry squid onion nose. If I was a mix type, I would rather go with other whisky, or even cheap rum better than this. Not for a good cook. Pass this.
