Cant go wrong with either of these excellent cars. RAV4 has some advantages: 1. Spare tire, 2. Panoramic roof option, 3. Ventilated seats, 4. Rear camera is better, and perhaps most important of all 5. Better fuel economy. CRV has 1. More interior space, 2. More cargo space, and (subjective) 3. Better looks

You brothers just get better and better each week! The blue with black trim on the CRV definitely helps to remove some of its dullard characteristics. It gives me a touch of Volvo in styling(especially in the rear) and proportions. Its odd, this loaded RAV4 is only $4400 less than a Highlander Limited. Sheesh. I think its definitely time for the RAV4 to be refreshed now.

I have a 2020 CR-V EX-L, and I love it. It’s the first car that I’m seriously considering a lease buy-out. I’ve been looking at hybrid vehicles this time (lease ends in July), but the residual value of my CR-V too good to pass up, compared to the new car prices which are ridiculous! When I was in the market for a new car in 2020, I considered the RAV-4, but I just couldn’t get past the cheap interior feel and the over-all cheap looking exterior. The same is true this year.

A very helpful comparison. I looked at where each vehicle nudges out the other and gave it a personal weighting in terms of importance to me. As a result a simple bottom line sum isn't my personal sum and my sum will no doubt differ from others who went through a similar exercise. Living in Canada, traction in poor driving conditions is important to me but not part of the comparison. Hard to do in a California testing environment. I have found comparisons elsewhere and will leave it up to people to do their own research if this is important to them.

Great comparison. Both are great vehicles that have always been competitive. We had to decide between the two back in 2009 and went with the RAV. Even though the RAV does offer more features at this point, this time we went with the CRV because one was actually available at our local dealer! We would have to wait for months for a RAV. Personally I like the looks of the new CRV better. RAV looks like some sort of transformer.

Went CRV Touring. Buying is very difficult because MSRP is not where it ends. In this market the dealers are adding mandatory accessories (low jack, door guards, wheel locks, etc and so forth) to raise margin even more. Also availability is horrible in general across the industry. No one seems to have cars on the ground ready to sell. You have to wait and only buy what has been allocated to the dealer which alienates consumers and gives you no ability to negotiate price at all. Honda had the easiest process, no market adjustments to the already HIGH msrp.

I have a 2019 accord hybrid and it is pretty awesome. I did have some issues with the electronics during the winter and had to take it in but Honda fixed it with a software update. it did it again and they did something and fixed it. I also have the rav4 limited hybrid 2022 and it is pretty good on gas. better than the accord hybrid. I wanted a crv but couldn't wait so I went with the rav. I am happy with it, drives like a tank and feels like it will last a long time. I wouldn't buy the first year model of the crv, I am pretty sure it will have some bugs to work out. The rav seems pretty sorted out and reliable. Was crazy rushing a pregnant wife to the hospital in the accord in a snow storm and having some weird malfunction where the headlights didn't work or wipers, all abs lights and dash lights on. but the car drove fine, was scary with no wipers or lights but we made it. I think Toyota as far as hybrids go, seem to have better all round reliability and gas mileage. Oddly the rav gets less gas milage in the winter than the accord but only by 2mpg average around 32mpg in the winter and 40 in the summer with the rav. in the accord 34mpg in the winter and 37 in the summer. The Honda feels way more sporty than a camery hybrid tho, it is way more enjoyable to drive. And the regen on the Honda with the paddles is bliss for trail braking into corners, I can roast people in the Honda, it takes turns amazing. IM sure the new crv is probably funner to drive than the rav4. It looks like the new crv has those regen paddles too.

@@bgy1 in the winter the Honda gets better but in the summer the rav gets 40 consistent and the Honda does 37. maybe mine is different. its a 2019 accord hybrid touring with the 17inch wheels. maybe it has 18 inch but not the sport wheels just the hybrid ones. the ride is softer with the smaller rims. I like the accord it drives amazing the rav drives like a bus but it dominates the city. Honda definitely more enjoyable to drive. The rav just has more utility, if they had the new crv available I probably would have Gone for it instead of the rav. few mpg is not a big deal for better driving position and feel.

I just bought a 2020 Rav4 XLE. My wife bought a 2021 CRV HYbrid XLE a few months ago. Crazy but I get to try both and still love the Rav 4. My fear with a Hybrid is still teh problems of batteries and cost of changing them, my CONventional Rav 4 gets great mileage when compared to most any Gas powered SUV, I get power and still about 26 city and I have not had it on a long drive as I just bought it two weeks ago. I also did not like the Electric push buttong Transmission and am surprised Honda went back to the old Stick SHifting feel. The ability to pull a stick into gear sold me and was a major reason I did not go with a Honda. I also found that both are still hard to find USed and Longo Toyota (worlds largest car dealership) says they will not take anymore new orders as they already are backed up 2 years of orders. THey told me TOyota did not increase their produciton after COVID and is behind. So, I hope to be able to find a 2023 Rav 4 in about 3 years to buy. In any case, buying a Used Rav 4 or CRV, regardless of trim is expensive and usually minimum of $3000 more than the car cost when new. I can't even imagine the problem with buying a new TOyota and have no idea what buying a new CRV is like. One last thought is that the quality is great and they both are rated to run over 250,000 miles. It is hard to beat that, I was a BMW owner until I saw the Japanese by far beat them in Quality for price and length of time their products stay on the road.

Honda use CR-V transmission belt drive which is not suitable for towing while Toyota Rav-4 still use the traditional gear drive automatic transmission. People who study mechanical engineering very much can tell that the gear drive system can provide much bigger load than the belt drive system.

These AWD systems are different. If you live in snow country, make sure you try them out in snow before buying. My last RAV-4 was not good, even with small amounts of snow. I rented a gas ‘22 RAV4 for 3 months. (I drive a full size truck). Brakes and handling were excellent. I avg’d 28 mpg - reaching 35 Hwy. Four cyl was buzzy and had a delay on initial throttle input but ride was excellent. Cargo space was good, interior space adequate for my 6’ - 3” frame. I just wish the hatch opening was taller. Interior quality really good and ergonomics were first rate. Dash lighting was very good, cloth seats comfortable. I’d get the faster hybrid with 40 mpg city. Rav4 has more features than the new Honda, another good car. RAV4’s small screen, base radio connected to my iPhone effortlessly and sound was surprisingly good. I recommend renting any car you’re thinking of buying. The rav4 is a very good crossover. 👍

@David Each yet What I did was I hit the throttle before I took off to get the revs up. There might be a chip you can install that will change a setting in the computer. I’d contact a few of those performance companies who may make a tune for the rav4. Banks has a product called “pedal monster” which changes computer settings so the throttle is instantaneous. The vehicle feels faster but might not be faster. Look into it. If I had a diesel, I’d get it. KZbin videos seem to like the unit. The RAV4 is a good veh.

I was planning on buying a 2023 CRV, but with the travel I do, I don't feel comfortable without a spare. Even a donut spare will get you to a garage. Any flat tire is going to be a tow job.
