I so needed this tutorial thanks for your help Josh. Just realizing after a few years owning my Crane Plus that there is an app for the setting and a tracker. This helps because I always need another person to help me do my talking head videos while walking. I don't always have someone to help me out. Now I can just do this in he app WOW!... Awesome Job explaining the parameters settings, I have a smooth 3 and I have been saving setting in there to see what help with the tilt action. Only issue I have that I continue to have is that it drains my phone battery drastically. Anyways great video!!! Can wait to see what other features the Cranes Plus can do now!!

Correct me if I'm wrong but when you changed the follow rate of the tilt to a higher number you said it became slower, but when you changed the control rate of the tilt to a higher number you said it became faster?

Hi Josh, I love your videos, always very informative and well presented. I own the Crane 2 and have just updated the fw to 1.70 but as Zhiyun is not very good at providing information, I would like to know, what changes have been made with this update. Can Android users, actually set such as auto panorama or hyperlapsing. Also, do you think they will even allow follow focus on Nikon cameras? Cheers from Dave

I am also needing some solutions for my set up. I have a 7Plus iOs phone with the lightening port right smack in the middle of the base of the phone. Because of the receptor bar that holds the phone in place on the stabilizer, I cannot use this port while I am filming to utilize the charger or even my plug in microphone. I have tried to plug in my dongle that came with my phone followed by my microphone cord and it throws the balance way off. The extension arm is already out as far as it can go. Do you have any alternatives for how to deal with this issue?

My zhiyun crane only moves upwward tilt even i hit the joystick up and down. But when I use zy app, and press reverse botton,using my crane joystick, same issue, only 1 way, but this time its downward tilt work,

The app interacts exactly as you demonstrate. Only problem is it doesn't change anything at all in the function of my Crane 2. I tried extreme settings, eg ctrl rate tilt set to1 then ctrl rate tilt set to 100, went through the save process ("Pattern saved" appears) but the gimbal performs identically with both settings. Dead roll also; identical performance with pan set at 1 deg vs 30 deg. Even turning on reverse control changes nothing. What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks.

Really useful video Josh. I have the crane plus and my usual set up is with sony a7iii + sony 55mm 1.8 lens, however when I add a quick release plate to it then gimble seem to not handle the weight and at times it shuts off when performing certain movements. Is there a way to increase the motor strength via the app?

Have you calibrated correctly with the new element? That is the most important thing on gimbals.

Moonshaker Media Hi there, mine works better that way ( using the joystick in F Mode.) However I'm still having headaches trying to get the tilt function to operate without the joystick. I've had to re-shoot several takes using my DJI OSMO Mobile instead. The image stabilization is also poor, so I will take mine back to the retailer for their expert calibration.

Hi there Josh...great videos on the topic! So, I have a Zhiyun Smooth Q and use my smart phone camera. I have loaded the ZY Play App and when I attempt to change up my settings ( Pan-Zoom-Tilt) I select SAVE and then they are actually not saved....the settings go back to the default. Is it expected that we have to redesignate them each and every time?? Thanks

It's a really nice one . I wanted to ask about one important setting on Joystick .. When i pan LEFT or RIGHT through joystick .. The fall off / deceleration is abrupt ( It stops the same moment you stop the joystick) .. In FOLLOW mode left and right pan fall off is quite nice .. when you stop Panning , it slowly falls off and smoothly................ How to achieve that same fall off on JOYSTICK when you stop panning or TILTING. I am using JOYSTICK CONTROLS ON 20%.

Yes ! I agree.. I contacted them and they said , it's not possible now. For me the application of joystick is limited. I do not understand how Zhiyun misses such an important setting in JOYSTICK.

It would be really useful to be able to save more than one Pan Tilt Roll setting. For example, a fast reacting setting for sports, a slow smoothing setting for cinematic shots etc... If you are in touch with Zhiyun developers, please pass this on to them.

I just noticed that there is a setting called `Scene mode`, which saves your custom settings ( Walking, Motion, Custom etc...)

It works, but each time I turn off everything, the crane 2 isn't able to load the last setup. I always need to use the app to load again my setting.

I have the Crane 2. When I change the settings under PTZ, the gimbal movements don’t appear to change. The camera follows me the same, irrespective of what I set the numbers to. I make the adjustments, then press “Save”. Also, when I save it under a name, as the app requests, how do you access that saved pattern? Please can you advise.

No doubt this is the best video I´ve ever seen explaining how to use the ZY play app with your gimbal(in fact, every video that I´ve seen so far is awesome)...however, I´m still having problems trying to pair my smartphone (Android) with the gimbal. I recently purchased a Crane V2. Downloaded the app but when I try to run it, there is no option for Crane V2 gimbal. I tried disconnecting all the devices paired to my smartphone (wireless headphone, dslr, car sound system, everything) and for some reason it is not pairing and at this point I am kind of frustrated because I haven´t found a way to use the app. Any recommendation will be extremely appreciated.

This is my problem as well. I have a Moto G5 running Android 8.1.0 and could not connect. I found a Facebook page listing a bunch of phones it supposedly works with. One being Samsung S5 which a friend of mine had an old one that he wasn't using. Couldn't connect with it either. Would be nice to know what phone and Android version Josh is using. Could the issue be firmware related on the Crane 2? I upgraded it from the other hack video using the Canon cable and setting.

HELP!!! I have a SERIOUS issue with the functionality of my new Crane Plus that is half the reason I bought the Crane in the first place. I have designed and built an aluminum jib which hangs the gimbal vertically. My intention is to use the ZY play app to do object tracking on the gimbal while I use my vertical hang jim. The problem is, when I put the Crane Plus in inverted mode, object tracking flips and up is down, and down is up :'( . I'm trying to figure out a workaround, but with the ipod being apple, and therefor limited in customization, I don't really know what I can do. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this??

Seems one can't control the zhiyun follow focus when the app is being used in motion follow mode. That's very dissapointing setting way points with focus should be possible.

No it is starting to microjitter as hell with the 200D+ lens.. odly it has done it before? Specially when tilted into "flashlight" mode. And yes it's a light setup but is well above the limits of the Crane V2... And going into the play app doesn't help... Setting strengh to weak or medium DOES NOTHING! CAUSE IT WON'T SAVE THE CHANGE! So can't even try to change the motor strengh.... NEED SOME SERIOUS HELP HERE!!!! There is NO save button in the app and after turning off both gimbal and app then it's back to strong... Sometimes it even just dies.... What's going on??? ANYONE!

First it is recommended to make the weight under the V2's maximum payload. Second, after setting the motor force in the app, you can long press the MODE button to enter standby mode, then do the same to restart the gimbal. I was on support just now and you were not helpful . The person helping me lacked patience because the app does not work well with android and not with my Note 5. I NEED to find a way to make the settings change that Josh has shown. Josh you are awesome! Does anyone out there know another way to change the things Josh was discussing in this tutorial? This is the WORST app I've ever seen. Super buggy, it doen't change the settings most of the time, and having to name the settings to something new after every slight adjustments is so stupid. They had an older version of that app back in 2016 that was perfect...
