An addendum to this video would be the new small LabRadar.

Yeah I was thinking this too. Wondering if it’ll top the Garmin!

Great info - thanks for all the work on this. If I recall, LabRadar is coming out with a much more compact unit (similar in size to the Garmin) - hopefully you can look at that as well in the future.

Glad you enjoyed it! I've heard similar things about the new LabRadar, but I haven't actually seen one out in the wild yet. We'll see what I can do about it in the future though...

My Labradar was almost unusable at a public range until I got a recoil trigger. After that and familiarity with it over time it works great. But the Garmin is just at another level!
@Thebiggamehuntingblog2 ай бұрын
I felt the same way about both! There were certainly a few times a felt like throwing my LabRadar in the trash out of frustration, but things got a lot better as I used it more. But yeah, the Garmin is WAY easier to use all around!

I have an ancient CED chronograph. Down range screens that you will shoot sooner or later (took me a few years but I did it). If it’s windy, forget it. If the range is busy - go home. But generally it worked pretty well. I also have a LabRadar I paid too much for… a few months before the Garmin in came out. You can get an adapter to use any Makita battery with the LabRadar. I spent an hour at the range Saturday trying to get my LabRadar to measure my .45-70 velocities. I’ve used it with other rifles just fine. I’ve used it with pistols. I had to change to trigger to Doppler with a Ruger LC-45 PCC because the heavy bolt clangs so much, but it did work there. It does not like the .45-70 throwing a 405 grain bullet down range. I’m pretty sure my tripod isn’t low enough to get the unit positioned right next to the muzzle, but it is fiddley.

I feel your pain! That's really frustrating!

I reckon there are going to be a lot of Lab Radars on the second hand market.

I just bit the bullet and got the Garmin. Haven't used it yet, but for the $ hopefully its a great piece of gear.

Used it on Labor day. What a great piece of equipment. Really simple to use and worked really well.

If you use the kenetic trigger that plugs into the LabRadar you should be able to pick up those dropped shots. Also with the kenetic trigger your placement with the muzzle is not as critical, but the aiming is still finicky. Fred Weaver Gresham, Oregon

These what we were waiting for with that said i will keep using my chrony 125.00 dol with all tho CON,but GARMIN hit a homerun that i will never try to cachet it,not 600,500and even 400.dolors ,EXELENT INFORMATION.

Magnetospeed for the win!!! Don't strap it to the barrel though. Just use a pic-rail mount so it doesn't connect to the barrel, and you're golden. There are tons of mounts out there, or just make your own. :) Those radar driven units give a "calculated" muzzle velocity based on where it starts tracking the projectile, and even then the accuracy will be based on it's signal to noise ratio. So your muzzle velocity numbers are based on an algorithm. My Lab Radar won't track a projectile closer than 6 yards, no matter how I try to set it up. I suspect the Garmin will behave similarly.
@Nickrioblanco12 ай бұрын
It was because of carelessness but I know someone that put their Magneto Speed too high on the muzzle a shot it. Just barely hit it but they had to get a new one. Also these guys have a rig that attaches to an arca rail on the handguard to not affect the point of impact. Unfortunately it was kind of expensive.
@Thebiggamehuntingblog2 ай бұрын
I was afraid of shooting the Magneto Speed to the first time I set it up! I even brought a cleaning rod out there to verify it was indeed below the bore axis before I started shooting!

radar chronographs: Are they effected by movement of the devices with the higher power guns ? I see them shacking a bit.

Did you use the external microphone on the Labradar for the suppressed string or the 22LR? I have had failed readings.
@ThebiggamehuntingblogАй бұрын
I did not. In fact, I don't even own one of the external triggers for the LabRadar. Like you, I've had a lot of failed readings for suppressed shots over the years with my Lab Radar, so I was a little surprised it did so well with the suppressed 22LR.

Problem with my Garmin Chronograph. I have had my Garmin for a few months and it does a GREAT job on all the bullets I have used it on except for the Barnes 130 grain 30 caliber plastic tip bullet. I am shooting this from a 300 Winchester Magnum and the book showed it is supposed to be going a little over 3,500 feet per second. The Garming will not pick up this bullet. I downloaded the current software for it. I notified Garmin and they are trying to figure out what is wrong.
@Klemheist-vf1hx14 күн бұрын
They are probably trying to work out what other brand of chronograph you work for.
