I needed a new car badly so started looking back in May. I test drove the Tuscon and Santa Fe, Toyota Rav 4 and Highlander, Acura RDX, Mazda CX5 and 9, Honda CRV, and maybe a couple others. I liked the Tuscon hybrid drivetrain, but wasn't big on its interior or exterior styling. Liked the Santa Fe interior and how it drove and put a deposit on a "Luxury Hybrid" model, but Hyundai is very slow delivering more of them. The RAV4 and CRV left me cold. The Highlander was just too big. The RDX was nice but the tech was old and they're hard on gas. So when I saw the new Sportage I liked the interior and exterior and knew I already liked the hybrid drivetrain (from driving the Tuscon), so based on a test drive of a 2.5 I4 model (gutless and noisy) I got on the waiting list back in May for a hybrid EX model. Got it in September and I'm pretty happy with it so far, with a few relatively minor niggles. Mostly to do with driving at night - the base model reflector headlights low beams aren't great, and the grid for the heated windshield is distracting when lit up by oncoming headlights.

Agreed on the Mazda infotainment system. It kept us from even test driving the CX-50. Have another Mazda with it, and it is horrible. Also, Subaru slow acceleration is a huge turnoff. As for the RAV4, it is just so ugly both inside and out, and the quality of the interior just seems cheap. Edit: I did test drive the newer CRV, and it road very well. My biggest complaint was some cheaper feeling plastics inside that I don't feel with the Hyundai or Kia. Edit: Anyone else worried about a 3 cylinder engine that is in the Rogue. Very nice SUV, but that worries me a bit for longevity.

And one final thought to keep in-mind: which of these cars is available for purchase now, i.e. what is the wait time? Some are half a year to a year waitlists. The HEVs and PHEVS may be even longer. This factor may influence a buyer's choice. As an aside, Hyundai & Kia have been in the press a lot lately for recalls due to vehicle fires with their Palisades and Sorentos. A factor like this (a behavior pattern) might shy someone like me away until the new designs have been out for a few model years.

The only problem with Kia and Hyundai revolve around two things. 1) The 2.4L Theta engine, which is no longer being used anywhere in the current lineup 2) A tow-hitch wiring harness... which is SUPER Niche and rare. Simply put, knowing what the problem is instead of saying "everything is bad" makes you informed instead of uninformed. As for wait times on Hyundai, I ordered a Tucson Hybrid back in July 2022 and it finally arrived in December 2022... so a 5 month wait for my Hybrid to come in. It's a great SUV and I love it.

Funny how we now need more than 200HP to call an SUV adequate, remember the times when a V8 SUV would have less power than the least powerful vehicle here? Yeah a Grand Wagoneer with a monster V8 making a 140HP through a 3 speed automatic. How things have changed.
@wolfshanze59802 жыл бұрын
Not true at all... 175HP to 190HP on a compact SUV is exactly "adequate". It will get you from point A to Point B, just don't expect anything sporty, and expect about 0 to 60 in 9 seconds. That's "adequate". To people who don't want "adequate" but want fun and sporty too... then YES you need more than 200HP. I've driven both the 187hp Tucson and the 226hp Tucson Hybrid... one is "adequate" and the other is actually fun... so I bought the Hybrid.

I would like a Physical Key, Manual Parking Break, not an Electric Parking Break. Basic things like a Dipstick so I can check my Engine Oil and complete some Maintenance for example. The more bells and whistles that are on a Vehicle means the more there is to break. Also, a Fully Digital Instrument Panel is something that I can do without as well. If the Vehicle was lighter in Weight. 200HP would be more than enough. One would have a better Power to Wight in the Vehicle did not weigh as much.

After weeks of trawling round dealerships looking for a near new SUVs there's some things about car design in general that baffle me. 1: seat comfort is terrible on most models, in particular the lack of tilt control has outright put me off most i've tried. How is this such a massive oversight? This is also a feature (or lack of) that is nearly always never mentioned in reviews of features listings. 2: no push button start - this isn't even new tech any more so i'm surprised at how many newish cars still have a massive cumbersome key to start them. 3: pointless tech: seat and steering wheel heaters. These are apparently massive selling points, but i've literally never got in a car and wanted a warmer seat or steering wheel. Maybe i could see the appeal of the wheel, but the seat is utterly pointless. Now if they could make a seat cooler i might be impressed. 4: No air blowers in the back: such a simple concept, but a lot of models lacking this. In the hot summer months me and the mrs have to almost freeze to death trying to blast some cool air to the back of the car for the kids. Usually just end up opening the windows anyway.

No EV's in were even tested. That seems like a missed opportunity and I think pretty much invalidates the results because buying an new ICE vehicle in 2022 is a dubious decision at best. Ionic 5, EV6, ID4 Model Y, Mach-E, Kona Electric, etc. all would have fit in this class.

some of those might not have fit being in a different price class. I want to shell out 35K, not 45K.
