The best years Sportsters are 91-03 , they have beefier crankshaft connecting rods and you can take the transmission out of the cases in no time... the 04 's on up you have to split the cases take the engine out of the frame big big job, especially if you miss a shift and bend a dog or break a gear,, and the rubber mount isn't that much smoother at all !! but the 04 is to present have really good high flowing heads they're called XP heads, if you can get Buell thunderstorm heads they're very good , 04 to present have very small connecting rods and crank... my Sportster is a 91 ...it's a 98 in from a 74 in which is 1600 CC's instead of 1200 you probably did a 1200 kit to that for your modification but they make a 1250 and a 1275 kit they're really modify a 1200, use red shift cams the hot cam for that bike easy start 643 lift redshift it cost you about five hundred bucks send your stock cams. To them they'll put that lift and duration on goes like crazy, yeah I see the handlebars are changed but the wiring they could have tucked away nicely, it probably has a 1200 kit and maybe a cam change, because my 883 then it ran well but it was nothing like a 1200, the 883 is 3 in Bore the 1200 is a three and a half Bore...

I can't go back to a sportster. First "street" bike was a 2002 1200. Jumped to a Dyna and haven't looked back. I preferred the power band (how it puts down power, not how pathetically low it is) and riding position of the sportster. But it was a pig, and I didn't understand that until I put a cam in my Dyna and bought my 94 VFR to realize how piss poor the power is on them. They need twice the power they have to be passable. And yes they need a 6th gear. Spend enough years on the highway at 80 mph and you'll agree.
@gmg9213 жыл бұрын
your dyna isnt much faster than a sportster actually power to weight ratio is better on the sportster side but the extra gear on your dyna would have a higher top speed. The 6 speed is nice but never really had much need for it because I would rather be on back roads anyway.
@sijonda3 жыл бұрын
@@gmg921 I think you missed the whole not a stock engine anymore part. And I regularly take a 100 mile trip to visit my parents a few times a month. Having that 6th gear makes a difference and I'm sure you agree is situational.

Sportster 883’s don’t get the recognition they deserve. They(especially the Evos’) are basically bulletproof. Rebuild the entire bike with like under 20 tools(which you can carry with you on the bike) fix em everywhere. Plus the best power-torque ratio out of the entire Harley lineup. And they ain’t slow. You can drive 55 easily on back roads or go 70 on an interstate all day long. Plus they’re cheaper than most bikes out there.
