I’m with you Yamiks, don’t play Odyssey. Base game is still amazing. My biggest problem with Odyssey is not the glitchy stuff, or the poor FPS, it’s the actual gameplay. There’s really not that much to do. The missions are so repetitive and the grind is absolute hell.

I have loads of fun in oddesy. I don't need the game mechanics to tell me how I how fun. I fucked up the other night and flew a very expensive ship without a rebuy because I've had several CMDRs before and I'm decent at the game. I lost my ship, all its cargo and didn't have enough credits to leave the system. Only had the big ass type 9 to fly and it was recieved back on a loan so if I lost it I lost it permanently. So I carefully piloted myself between a few planetary settlements restoring power and doing odd jobs enough to buy a decent small ship to jump me out of the system. That's is a day's worth of enjoyable activities that I couldn't have done without oddesy.

Considering that you can do everything you can in Odyssey that you can do in the base game, it is clearly not possible that "there’s really not that much to do" when "the base game is still amazing", assuming that for a game to be amazing, there must be that much stuff to do. Maybe I struggle at understanding why you find ED "amazing", but since they fixed the horrible UI and many bugs, there doesn't seem much of a difference gameplay-wise. Though still, as Yamiks noted in his recent video, Odyssey is overpriced for what it offers in addition to the base game (which is very little).

@@xamidi It just seems like a lot of salt compounded by lots of running issues for many people. I think I got the base for basically free and I picked up Odyssey for a big discount thus this is a huge game to price ratio for myself, it runs pretty well too on Ultra.

Hickam Survey, not only does it grind imperial rank, there data missions going short range. Sure they only pay 15-25k per mission but you can stack 6-10 at a time going to the same destination. When your in a sidewinder it gets you upgraded fast.

Also once you've got some imperial rank under you the missions will start offering delivery bonuses and the 10k is suddenly 180-200k.

I went from Sidewinder, to Viper 3, to Viper 4, to Vulture, to Chieftain, to Challenger, to Fer-de-lance, to Krait MK2 to Anaconda, back to Krait MK2. I feel more at home in the Krait MK2. So much power plant and distributor.

B grade also has more armour by default - before engineering was a thing combat ships were best fitted with B grade items..

I can attest that Road to Riches works wonders to get your first Python. I first started in my Sidewinder in resource extraction sites. Let the cops beat down an opponent, then shot them long enough to get a bounty. Once I had enough for a Hauler with upgrades, I started exploring. Did enough of that to get a Diamondback Explorer for exploring, rinse and repeated to get an Asp Explorer. Earned more from that. Then reconfigured the aforementioned ship to mine for low temperature diamonds (back when it was profitable) and earned enough for the Python plus gear. Then reset the Asp X for exploring again to make some more money, as I really do like exploring.

Picking up a hauler with an upgraded FSD and a scoop to do the Road to Riches is a nice quality of life upgrade over the starting sidey.

Yeah, I was wondering why go to Adder instead of Hauler? To practice with a multi purpose ship before sinking money into a Cobra Mark III? Seems like Hauler is more straight forward.

Whereas right now the Scout is the ship you accidentally buy instead of the Explorer when you forgo doing a couple extra missions in your current ship Perhaps if the Scout had better hardpoints than the Explorer and the Explorer had less mass to enable bigger jumps, or something? Then the two could legitimately co-exist

Asp Scout should be faster than the Explorer since its got a light hull (like the DBS) and swap x2 small hard points for mediums and it would have a niche.

I got Odyssey and my game hard caps at 5 fps no matter what I do... On windows. On Linux with Protontricks, it runs flawlessly. But it doesn't add much. It adds new missions where you go to a base down on the planet, and do mundane tasks or kill a few people and then leave, only to remember you needed to scan something using your scanner. Oh you pressed the wrong button? Out comes your gun. Then you die and are sent to the penal carrier. 250 credit fines paid and you are free to go.

When I first started, I did the thing of hitting a resource site, wait until the cops nearly kill a target, get my licks in and profit. Then, at which time I had seen videos of Road to Riches, I upgraded to a Hauler, kitted it out for exploring until I made enough to buy and outfit an Asp X and continued the Road to Riches. Made a good deal of cash exploring with that around the bubble. Going to play around the core exploring, see if I can't find a virgin system. Might use my Anaconda, don't know yet.

As a recent NMS player I applaud and NOW appreciate the comprehensive videos explaining some of the finer points of Elite game play. NMS is atrocious with regards to information on the basics for those who want to hit the ground running and not have to hunt around for information on the basics of game play, man, I would love to meet the guy who designed NMS's crafting system, jesus h christ.

You basically described my experience only backwards. NMS was very easy to start and required minimal guidance, this on the other hand is a nightmare to learn.

I was a day one NMS player and have to say it's much more helpful and comprehensive than everything that gets thrown at you by ED. At this point (one day in ED) I am finding NMS to be much the better and more accessible game, there is actual stuff to do and you get to fly your own ship. Opposed to ED where if you don't keep using the assists then you just miss everything, and even when you do use the assists none of it makes much sense. All it keeps saying it slow down. In space you shouldn't need to be flying at slower than human walking pace to actually be able to do anything. NMS you fly and the ship handles the boring bits for you (like scooping stuff up, just WHY does ED make it so painful?) navigation, why is it so annoying in ED, when out of Frame Shift, nothing shows up in the system, at least NMS gives you HUD points so you can orient yourself. Yes, space is bigger than NMS makes out, but by golly ED is just making the basics a real chore. Case in point I decided to start mining in ED, ahh yeah buy a mining laser... fine off I go, pew pew at an asteroid... oh what's that, spend ages driving the ship like a granny in a supermarket car park to pick it up, oh you can't, you need a refiner... so go and get one of them... come back and finally pick something up, oh what's that I've got to pick up loads of little bits before I get one unit of cargo, that is then worth about 1000 credits. Oh and the bin only holds one thing at a time, so if the asteroid gives off something other than what I'm trying to refine then it's a waste of time and effort. All with no apparent way of knowing what the asteroid is made up of in the first place. A complete an utter waste of time. NMS shoot asteroid, auto pick up the stuff, sell the stuff or use it. heck I used to play Elite back in the wireframe days and then Frontier on the Amiga, both were more intuitive and user friendly than ED is. Heck these are supposed to be futuristic space ships, like in the movies... I don't remember any movies making space flight into such a dull chore as ED does,.

@@SirDaz What I like ED for is the flight mechanics, and combat in VR, its great, it's all I do in ED, mining, nope, exploring, a bit, Haul cargo a bit, I like flying the T9. If NMS's flight mechanics were better I'd give it another go. I dislike not being able to bind pitch and roll to the same joystick, also, better control of the ship near the planets surface, and better rendering of objects when near a planets surface, that popping in and out of detail is annoying.

@@tudomerda Have to say on PS5 I am really not enjoying the flying at all. Everything just feels so slow and like you have no real control. Turning takes an absolute age. I've not yet got to a planet as I get too bored with how slow everything is in ED. If Star Wars had ships like ED then they'd never have made it to the Death Star, they'd probably still be waiting to get out orbit! maybe I'm doing something wrong as it can't be by design surely? if so, I have no idea what as I followed the flying tutorial. NMS flight whilst simplified is much more satisfying as it gives a sense of moving.

it's complex but not that complicated. it takes a while to just get use to it. nothing but to do it soo take your time. poke every UI and you'll eventually learn where everything is.

To play ED you Must use all ED content creators on you tube, and third party tools, like inara.cz, EDDB, and others. there is a wealth of information there that the game it self don't provide. dont believe the hype SC is not ready yet to be played...some days is unplayable. there is some beautiful stuff in SC but ED is by far a better space sim.(for now)

Those are wing missions. Do them with friends to knock them out quickly and all share in the reward. Good when winged up with newer pilots as 5 million is an amazing payday at the start of the game

Erm, try pressing CNTRL + ALT + Space... I THINK that is the default binding for key board. If not then the binding will be in the "Free Camera Suite" in the control options screen... Hope that helps.

I tried road to riches and found it frustrating and boring. As a result I decided to sell drugs and made my first millions that way. I later discovered that I had so many problems with Road to Riches because my HOTAS didn't automatically map several of the buttons critical for it.

I tested DSS & FSS money making difference and it's blatantly visible how much more money per system SURE you make with DSS but also how much.. far far far more time you spend scanning those planets that in the end actual money/hour is lower!

I'm a brand new player as of 1 day ago, this video didn't provide anything helpful at all. Just feels like a long term player just having a laugh rather than actually providing helpful tips to new players. Scanning planets for money?? How do you even do that, I didn't even know it was a thing, and this video explains none of it, just says do it.
