Best swimbait knot and Rago weightless alpha trout are on today’s menu! I get asked a lot about what knot i use with my swimbaits while bass fishing. I go over which knot i prefer to use on big Swimbaits for bass. I also go over the Rago Weightless alpha trout soft swimbait i just got in the mail. It is truly a BIG BAIT clocking in at 11" and almost 10oz. It has a little brother also, the 9.5” version which comes in at almost 5oz. If you’re into big soft plastic swimbaits for bass fishing these are for you!

i thought i was the only angler that used this knot. An old crusty jetty fisherman taught me this at Mission Beach jetty when i was stationed in San Diego coincidentally. Love the videos and always look forward to them.

I really have to get some big soft swimbaits. I'm big on the hollow bodies but I want to find the big big girls. In the clear water I think the soft swimers might work better. Nice info man.

i got into using the SD Jam this year with the small stuff. I'll always have the Palomar in my arsenal though, it's held up with no issues, especially against the giant 40lbs+ stripers we catch.

I'm jealous of your ragos soon as I got the news they were up for grabs they were all gone. Congrats on those baits. I'm hoping to have the cash allready when the next batch comes out but who knows I'm also waiting on on low down custom's to release there xxxheavy swimbait rod so what comes first will be the deciding factor. I hope your trip goes good. I know how car/truck problems go miss three months of swimbaiting this Summer do to a fryed computer.

+Swimbait Chronicles will do I seen manny chee with the proto type looks the same thickness as my xxheavy okuma guide maybe thinner but I really like low downs extra long handled and they have what seems as a true lure rating but even if it comes short I don't see myself casting anything heavier than 18 oz looks sick

One of the best knot tutorials I've seen. I actually think I could go tie that knot right now I'm gonna try when I get home I usually just use a Palomar but I've never used a huge bait like those yet

Robert Grasso thanks a lot man. I was worried about the camera set up and angle but seemed to work out alright. I usually use that double on bigger baits, and single on smaller baits and Palomar with certain line throughs

i like multi segment baits and have had some that have rotated in and out of my arsenal, but you're right i dont throw them a lot. not really sure why! lol. my local waters have always produced well with glides and big soft baits. so i guess i really never have gotten around to throwing the multi jointed baits that much. been eyeing 10" triple trouts here lately but just havent picked one up. guess im gonna need to! they are great producers as well as the others you listed.

I've been throwing my Deps 250 on a regular San Diego jam knot(haven't had any problems so far) what's the advantage of the double? And should I switch over to that?

atlantaclimber Pace it's all a confidence thing with that not and me. The single works great. I've just always felt like the double was where it's at for bigger baits. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Just check your knot and line consistently and you should be good to go

As a video idea, I think it would be beneficial to us guys starting to throw swimbaits full time if you did reviews on some hand made lures. Things such as a phoneyfrog shad glide, burrito bait shad, real prey swimbaits and any others you may have experienced with. Good idea?

Edwardo Perez the weightless is a line thru that's only able to be fished with belly hooks because of how the line feeds through the head down into the belly.

Bass Casters it's a great not for heavy baits. But it gets a little bulky for smaller baits so I just go with a regular San Diego jam knot. But I've never had it break or cast off.

the weghtless ones were a rago site only thing. all the other sites have the stock ones. like the skt, alpha trout, glideator, bvd etc etc, but the smaller batch stuff gets released in limited quantitites on their site.

Bass Casters I don't usually use leaders. I throw anywhere from 17-30lb mono and fluoro.

Matt Allen from tactical bass in bassing uses 80lb braid to a 30lb flourocarbon leader connected by an fg knot for big swimbaits. I haven't been able to buy the set ups to try it myself but I'm sure it works. Personally I can't stand throwing anything on the spool other than a high quality braid. I haven't had a chance to try a really good floro yet but after trying some spiderwire floro and mono I decided to always use braided mainline for now at least.
