Yes, Another great, helpful video, Stewart & Alina. Thanks. I've now been a photographer/film-maker for 65 years, and as I've aged, the need to travel light has never been greater.

Good to see an honest review based on real experience, your views on having a heavier drone are much the same as mine. I have a mini 2 and an Air 2S some may say a bit extravagant but there have been a few occasions when the footage just would not have happened without the Air 2S.
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
For sure. The Air 2S is significantly more powerful and stable in high winds. They are all incredible drones but for harsh environments, obviously the bigger ones are more suitable. Cheers!

Looks like your venture to Iceland was a success , i too have suffered the wind issue while in Iceland and this was winter , mainly on the south coast .while not always a saying you can trust the Icelanders say “if you don’t like the weather ,wait 5 mins !” Also you were using a drone in the Snæfellsnes park , how much was the permit to fly there , I was quoted £300 even as a private flyer , Winter or summer (can understand summer because of the bird life , that was 2019 .I’ve noticed each of the national parks in Iceland have their own permits , the easiest & fastest online one is for the Vatnajokull national park , private drone operator is free & returned in an hour sometimes . Thanks again for an informative video . 👍

Great video and tips!! I’ve always used just a GoPro, but am going to start filming with an iPhone 14 Pro with a DJI OM 5 and Hollyland M1 mic. Let’s see how it works. Still figuring out the best ways to backup videos on the go (we recently lost some footage and it sucks!)

Thank you for this video. I'm not a professional photographer or videographer but I have a good amount of gear from DSLR, GoPros, Drones, Gimbals, mics, and a bunch of accessories. My problem is always thinking I'm going to do more that I actually do so I bring too much. This past trip to Iceland I didn't bring my DSLR and then I wish I did because I could get better photos. Luckily it was our third time there so I've got pictures from before. However, your video gave me a better idea on what to pack. The only concern I have for myself is buying a larger drone. I have the DJI Mini 2 drone and it works but when it's windy I'm afraid I'll never see it again. But the size and weight makes it really convenient. Anyways, thank you for the video. Really helpful.

What's the setup for the wireless GO that you're using in this video? The reporter stick from Rode looks nice but the branding is way too big. I returned the SmallRig version because the mic wasn't tight enough.

Thank you for this video I do have a lot of the gear you have shown today and have had it for 3 years. The main thing I'm confused about and have never come across a video explaining . Is how do you get through customs with all the battery's and cameras and gear. It takes me forever with 2 phones and a ipad . Do you need to go to specific are to book in or just the normal counters. Loved this video thank you

I have one of those backpack suitcase combo things where the photography gear cube comes out of the backpack and fits into a small rolling suitcase. Then I put my clothes in the backpack. I keep my camera gear as a carry on and I put it through the regular TSA conveyor belt scanning thing. It has always been fine. The only time I got grief was when I inadvertently packed a lens cleaning kit and it had some liquid lens cleaner in a small bottle that was buried in my camera gear bag. They made me open the case and remove the liquid but that was it. I also tend to not put my batteries in my gear for travel. The drone batteries and camera batteries are in a separate compartment but not in the actual devices. I hope that helps. I have found that the TSA agents are very understanding with camera gear. But one thing I will never do it travel with a guitar! That is a completely different ballgame! 😁
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Never had any trouble travelling with cameras, drones etc. The lipo batteries must be in the hand luggage and not in the hold luggage. Given that we keep all the valuables in hand luggage anyway, it's not a problem. Getting through security can take a bit of time to unpack all the electrical stuff but over dozens of flights we've not once had an issue with anything.

Hi Stewart Great video as always. Couple of queries; was the Iceland trip a private venture or an organised expedition type of event? I couldn't help notice the use of helicopters and just wondered if you had hired these on a private basis or part of an organised tour. Secondly, when you have a bit of time, could you do a quick tutorial on the DJI Mic and the various settings, TX to RX and RX to GH5 that sort of thing. I know you've done some general ones, setting up etc but one on Ideal settings/best settings etc? If you've already done this just point us in the right direction to view. Keep up the good work. Geoff
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff! The Iceland trip was courtesy of Skylum, the folks behind Luminar Neo photo editing software. So yes, the helicopter was part of a private tour with other participants. For the DJI Mic, the GH5 is super hot for some reason when it comes to the signal coming in so -12db on the GH5 itself and then levels all the way down for the RX. I still find there's a risk of it clipping so normally we use the internal TX recording as the primary audio (it's really forgiving with clipping) and use the GH5 audio as a backup.

Hello Stewart.. isnt gh5 heavy for travel ? Would you consider an iphone 14 for filming or not yet?
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the GH5 is not what you'd call a 'travel' camera as such. IMHO, smartphones are amazing for wide angle shots and if you go to the trouble of using an ND filter and getting your exposure dialled in manually, you can get amazing results. For more telephoto focal lengths it gets a little bit trickier if you want shallow DoF. The computational shallow DoF that's applied can look very good and you can get telephoto lens attachments for smartphones that can do a good job but by that point the convenience argument is getting eroded. No flip-out screen is an issue plus they don't do well in hot/cold temperatures so whilst I'm a massive fan of mobile filmmaking, there's still something to be said for a dedicated camera I would say (for us anyway...).
@cwmonty2 жыл бұрын
I don't really understand the argument of the Gh5 for weight when even the Sony A7iii is lighter than it. And even when you factor in lenses, a Samyang 35mm 1.8 added on to the Sony comes out to nearly identical weight to the gh5 with the 15mm. And it's a true 1.8 lens.

Questions: How does one go about "FILMMAKING" with no film? How is everybody filming everything with no film in their camera? Where do you get film for a DSLR or the like? How do you install film into a cell phone that so many folks say they are using to film this video? Cheers 🍻
@DroneFilmGuide2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm...think I see what you're trying to do here LOL...defo stick to the day job! Filmmakers don't make rolls of film...they make motion pictures (aka. films)...with digital cameras.
@Finite-Tuning2 жыл бұрын
@@DroneFilmGuide: I'm not sure you do. I'm literally just trying to understand how and why the world keeps getting this so wrong. A "motion picture" is quite correct terminology, just as "video" is also correct. Making a "movie" works fine just as "recording" also describes the action. But filming with a digital camera that does not use film, it's makes no sense and everybody keeps getting it wrong. I am seriously not arguing with you or anyone, but I am literally just trying to understand. Because the difference between film and digital video is like the difference between day and night! Why and how does everyone keep getting this so wrong..... I just don't understand is all. Cheers 🍻

@@Finite-Tuning Gosh, I wish I had the time to pursue arguments like this, but at my age I certainly don't - I'll get on with the real world. Words are words and most know what they mean in context.
@Finite-Tuning2 жыл бұрын
@@chiangmaicharlies : I made NO argument! I simply presented just the facts and only the facts. Nobody likes to be wrong, but you all have been soo wrong for soo long and you all will continue to be until somebody finally puts up a stop sign! I'm just trying to bring a constant mistake to everyone's attention so that it can be corrected. Clearly everybody keeps missing it, somebody has to point it out! I literally cannot understand how or why it's taken so long for people to finally get this simple terminology correct and that is why I commented. You have not seen the 6 year old kid telling mom to shut up because he's "filming" with a cell phone! He learned it from all of you, not from me! Is it contextually day or is it contextually night? Can't be both! We have well defined words for a reason. Not context, not for the sake of, but matter of fact meaning! We cannot communicate with each other if we do not all agree on the meaning of every word. Webster made a dictionary for specifically this reason. Check it out at your leisure. Cheers 🍻

Meanings of words change according to our changing needs. For example, we may leave garments in what is still called a cloakroom, though few people wear cloaks. Moreover, you should beware of taking things too literally: a movie is a collection of still pictures, "video" is Latin for "I see", a camera is a vault, "digital" means "of a finger", and to record was originally to remember, or more literally, to take a thing to heart (cordial means hearty). As another Mr. Carroll had Humpty Dumpty ask, is a word my servant or my master?
