Most often when people say they have a “crick in the neck,” they put their neck in an awkward position either when sleeping or doing other activities, and this causes stiffness or pain.
It’s very important that you not confuse this pain with a pinched nerve, which can be more serious. When you have a pinched nerve, you’ll feel a more sharp pain versus the “stuck” or stiff feeling you get from a crick in your neck and you will often feel numbness, tingling or pain that travels to your shoulder and arm.
