LOVE THIS ONE!!! What a jewel! Oh my goodness, those ceilings are stunningly beautiful. They definitely look like Medici frescoes. This place needs quite a bit of work, and I prefer radiators over that the gas stove, but the potential is unlimited. I know what renovations cost here in the U.S. but realistically, what would it cost to renovate the bathroom, move the kitchen into one of the larger rooms and restore the frescoes? Guessing around 200,000-250,000 Euros? More?

Soo much to say about this one 😂 I studied in Florence for my 4th year of architecture, and when I finished my core courses, I decided to go back to Italy to do all the requisite classes I’d avoided for 4 years-I made a deal with the landscape architecture group that went for a semester or two and used Texas A&M’s campus in Castiglion Fiorentino’s Santa Chiara school. (The road leading from piazza Gafibaldi to the school was featured in “Life is Beautiful” and students and staff from the school were used as extras-the scene where Benigni is waving everyone out of the way because the brakes have gone out on the car, and they mistake his arm movements for the fascinating salute.) I know castiglion Fno like the back of my hand. It’s an interesting property and lots to fix up to one’s own liking. I won’t say much about the area other than it’s quaint and like all towns everywhere, there are elements around that may not be to everyone’s liking. The students from A&M are often just away from their parents homes for the first time, and with that comes some certain activities you can imagine-kind of like marriages in New Orleans at times. What I did like is that the locals didn’t speak a lot of English so it was nice to get lots of practice in. And the summer, spring and autumn weather is quite nice-that tramontina that goes through the town, however…very wet and cold. I miss the great people of this town and got to know many of them. There are lovely bars and a tabacchi near the walled entrance and the owners son (probably the owner by now) took to all the American girls and came to all our parties to practice his English-they’re a great bunch. This one is very tempting Nick! My husband and I have been subscribers and have binge-watched every episode you post. It was his big dream to retire in Italy (though he didn’t speak a word of Italian) He would wake up Saturday morning and have it all queued up and the coffee made ready to watch as soon as I got out of bed. Sadly, he died suddenly last September at 58 and it was unexpected and I’m just now getting back to being able to watch your videos again,Nick. I’m fluent in Italian but I never thought to retire there…it might be a sign you’re showing Castiglion now! Sending you love and hugs from San Francisco, California ❤
