Why are you hyping Zen4 V-cache? Does this have something to do with Zen 4 poor sales? When was the last time you hyped an Intel product ahead of launch? There's no official announcement from AMD for a Zen 4 X3D at this point in time. Now I get why they call you AMD Unboxed.
@sakracliche

@@PatEagle787 What does official annoucement have to do with this? Zen4 3dv-cache is almost sure to come, no matter if zen 4 has poor sales or not. Annoucements always come late. From what I've heard, zen 4 3dv-cache should be here late Q1 or Q2. Also intel is not coming with anything special, that's why he's hyping up a possible zen 4 3d.

@@sakracliche So Intel Meteor Lake won't be anything special? Why hyping a product that will get beaten by the competition a few months later? Zen 4 X3D is not the only CPU lineup launching in 2023. People will have more choice than Zen 4 V-cache next year and I don't think the more expensive V-cache models will help fixing Zen 4 pathetic sale figures.

TBH I mostly use my PC for Iracing and several data loggers have said it’s very close between the 5600X and the 3D for that sim. Iracing is mostly single core utilisation and the 5600X has fewer cores but faster clock speed. The 3D has that ridiculous amount of cache which negates it. It certainly wasn’t worth an extra £180 plus possibly a new cooler. Obviously the Arctic Freezer isn’t rubbish but if I couldn’t overclock the 3D due to throttling, the 5600X is better for my uses. I think for most gamers the 3D is the one to go for but I mostly use Steam Deck for PC. EDIT: If you buy a 5000 series CPU, you get a free Steam copy of Uncharted Collection. That’s retailing at £45 (£30 from CD Keys).

If you game and also need a lot of multi core, you have to get the 13600K, if you primarily game and want to upgrade down the line, take the 7600X. Upgraded from 5600x to 5800x3d. Got the 5800x3d for $329 and selling my 5600x for around $130. $200 upgrade playing at 1440p. FPS is easily 20-30 higher and the 1% lows are probably like 30-40 higher. The increase in 1% lows have made my games feel so smooth. I think it’s definitely been worth the upgrade. I love your videos Steve (and Tim!), thanks for all your hard work. I have been looking for some reliable videos on the difference between DDR4 and DDR5 for productivity workloads but struggling. In your reviews you only seemed to vary the memory on the games benchmarks where it can make a really big difference but I wondered if you didn't bother doing it with productivity because it wouldn't make a difference in these kinds of workloads? I currently have an overclocked 12600K but was looking to get a 13700K (maybe 13900K if Zen 4 3D brings them down in price) but don't know if my 3600 CL16 will hold it back so much that it's not worth doing and just put that money towards Zen 5 / Meteor Lake with new DDR5, mobo and monoblock?

I appreciate the level of detail, in this video e.g. with the 3600 SR and 3600 DR Configurations - its a big amount of additional testing, but it offers unique value to the viewer. Others like LTT / J2Z are just mass producting low effort content with far less depth in testing, focusing on clickbait and sponsors instead. Thanks mate for all your great work, seriously just went on a 5 hour price comparison binge after realising how incredibly still viable the 5800x3d is! In the end though, I decided to go back to the z690/13700k build (with 7700K/X670 Crosshair VIII Hero in a close second for now) purely due to memory. No lie it's like £500 in the UK on Amazon for DDR4 CL14 TridentZ Neo and I was just like hell no lol I managed to find CL16 at £250 but at that point it really didn't make any sense to me anymore as I was basically anti future proofing myself with worse technologies like wIFI 5, losing a tonne of USB 3 at 10GBps and loads more, while still thinking in the back of my head I would not be able to get close to your results here, as all I could find that is realistic price wise is CL18/17 for £100 2x8GB 16GB kits lol Would be great if you could publish how 13600K handles the DDR5-5200 CL 38 (basically Kingston Fury's)... In a perfect world AMD would make a refresh of the AM4 socket board with DDR5 and all the new bells and whistles, I'd buy that in a second....

Intel 13xx are a better choice but end of line is very hard for me to overlook. Unless I see huge cost difference. The question now is which GPU to pair with that PC, should one wait for the 4070 next year or get last gen GPUs which their prices have come down significantly here. Looking at 3070ti at the moment and the value proposition looks very decent. Any thoughts here (playing on 1440p but may consider 4k in the near future) ?

Thank Steve for this timely video. I like many others ran out earlier this week and scooped up a 5800X3D, although I paid $370 for it at Micro Center. I don't mind the small premium this go round. I had other things to pick up as well, they were really cheap, so it all evened out in the end. I have had the 5600X since launch along with my Asus Crosshair Impact mb. Thanks to the Crypto crash and gpu clearance. I got what you called "Dumb" in February($2,050) a Sapphire Toxic 6900XT for $1K four months ago. In the Division 2 it was the generational leap in performance I was looking for from the 5700XT I have. Yeah, If a buyer is budget minded but desires the best bang for buck. Testing these cpu combos with "mid-range" gpus would also would be good, If you can get around to doing that too that would really help those get thru this down turn in the economy (for some, not all). I look forward to next year when you test the 3DV-cache version (s) of Ryzen 7000. Then I may start a new AM5 build with RDNA 3. Probebly another Sapphire Toxic, we'll see. Until then I am enjoying what I've put together so far. The longevity of the AM4 platform is a blessing. I am sure AM5 will be one too, after motherboard prices are dropped 20%-30% across the board for x670E, x650E, and the others. They are gouging and we know it.

After this video I finally pulled the trigger on the 5800X3d. I'm still on a B450. Getting this performance without having to invest into a new platform made this upgrade a no-brainer. This will be my final CPU upgrade for AM4. I remember I started out purchasing a 1600X, but for what ever reason (I guess they were out of stock) Amazon sent me a 1800X instead. Later I upgraded to an 3900X to do some streaming using H264. Back then H264 was still better than NVENC. Now with both AMD and Nvidia having much improved encoders on the GPU and with AV1 on the horizon, CPU encoding seems to be dead. Having a CPU purely focused on gaming and using the GPU for encoding makes sense now. AM4 has just been mind blowing.
@ratshackmojo
@ratshackmojo Жыл бұрын
I'm still not too happy with NVENC's quality to compression ratio vs. CPU encoding. CPU encoding is still almost 50% smaller for the same quality with the loss in speed. It's important when I'm loading tons of movies onto my tablet for overseas flights.
@earllemongrab7960
@earllemongrab7960 Жыл бұрын
@@ratshackmojo I definetly agree. CPU encoding is still better than GPU encoding. But I feel we are coming closer to the tipping point, if we're not already there. Having an expensive CPU running hot to do all your encoding feels like a waste when you're not using it for anything else like productivity or professional work. Whereas the GPU you will use for gaming anyway and the performance / power hit is pretty small to get pretty decent encoding done. I think both methods still have pros and cons attached to them. But momentum is definitely going towards GPU encoding / AV1 (at least for streaming).

I found that matching the CPU to your monitor refresh rate is the way to go if you're not a competetive gamer. I have a 120Hz display so any CPU that can render the games I want to play at 100-120fps is enough and my 5600X can do that easily. Games like Spider-Man are pretty CPU intensive but those cases are so rare that I don't bother and just live with 60+

GPU: RTX 3070 Asus Tuf Gaming OC. Upgrading to the 5800X3D was the most efficient manner for me to enhancing my gaming performance, as opposed to building a entire new AMD Ryzen Gen 3 system or 13 Gen Raptor Lake Intel system. The CPU with tax was $400 USD (well, I did replace the wraith cooler for a Noctua NH-U12A..temps don't go beyond, under load, 65c!! (though, that has to do with my case fans as well (6), and using thermal grizzly thermal paste).I'm long-winded but my point for AM4 gamers: 5800X3D is the answer!

Can you benchmark the CPU's with a realistic GPU. If you are buying a Ryzen 5 or Intel 13600K you are probably not buying a 4090. I think way too many people overpay for a CPU that has no effect on use case. A 6650XT or a 3060 TI card would be realistic to that budget. I don't think people realize how much money they waste on CPU/RAM upgrades.

Would love to see the inclusion of MS FS2020 in the testing. My next upgrade will be purely based on performance for that sim and to that end I'm garnering as much info as possible from testing channels. Perhaps folks have come to some valid conclusions already?

It seems some people have swapped out their 5600x / 5800x / 5900x in favour of a 5800x3D strictly for gaming. Based on these tests and others (TechPowerUp) there only seems to be a 10-15% fps improvement at 1440p. For those that have done this swap, did you really notice the difference while gaming?

Yes, it's not just the frames gain but how smooth it makes the games. The minimum frames are reduced and it feels amazing.

I think it would also greatly depend on the GPU. There are only few people who can afford a 4090.

I noticed a big improvment going from a 5800X to a 5800X3D in World of Warcraft playing at 1440p on my RTX 2080. It feels like I have a new GPU, as I'm hitting my 160fps frame cap more often and have far fewer noticeable frame drops (this extra smoothness was immediately obvious).

As there,s more to life then just gaming. What would be the best all-rounder cpu and gpu for some video/photo editing and the odd bit of game play if i wanted to? i look forward to your reply.

Went from 3900X to 5800X3D when I got my RTX4090. It was definitely worth it. Pretty huge CPU bottleneck with fps drops and frametime spikes in some scenes in Cyberpunk with the 3900X even at 4K maxed out + RT psycho + DLSS quality. For example at the Market around Toms Diner when there are many NPCs. The 5800X3D completely fixed it.

This video came out at the perfect time! I was looking into getting a 5800x3d thus maxing out my am4 platform and just using it for the next 3-5 years. Thanks HUB!

My upgrade path on amd was x570 master with 32 gig at 3200mhz ram at cl 14 with a 3900xt running a 2080. Wasn’t great but wasn’t as good as when I upgraded the cpu to a 5600x I started seen gains. After 1 year I ended up getting a 3080 10 gig and I seen a great performance jump. I just got a 5800x3d and wow my vr sim racing experience is amazing and with in the next 6 months I’ll buy a 4090 and sit out the current gen in cpu that’s available right now. Great vid Steve I appreciate it.

just asking, is there any suspicions towards your 7600 xt perf bc there's news that some of the 7600 xt is beating the higher end zen 4, my suspicion of the cause is probably related to the 2 CCDS in some 7600 xt

Have you guys thought about incorporating some VR tests into your benchmarks? Would be interesting to see how these tests scale across a cpu intensive simulator in VR like Microsoft Flight Simulator, or DCS World.

Thanks for the comprehensive review Steve! Seeing that I play on a 4K monitor, it looks like my 5800X, DDR3600 CL14, 3080 will keep me covered for another year at least. No point in upgrading to anything else. The only thing down the line that I see shaking things up are the 3D versions of the 7X series.

Any reason why DDR5-5200 wasn't tested with the Intel configurations? Asking because that's what I am using with my i7-12700K and is curious if it's worth upgrading to faster DDR5 ram down the road
