If you believe in the 80/20 rule, here is a perfect example. For under a thousand dollars, you can get a pro-grade, no-frills racquet stringing machine capable of doing commercial work.
Every machine has three components -- mounts, clamps, and tensioner. You need a six point mount, prefer fixed clamps, and enjoy electronic tensioning. Welcome to the Penta Premium 2600 with the Wise 2086.
Don't spend less getting a drop-weight or crank shaft, and definitely don't skimp on the mount (anything less than six point is likely dangerous for your frame.)
Best value stringing machine, no exceptions I've yet to find.

I have this setup and yes indeed it’s a solid machine, and without the stand doesn’t take up a lot of space , it’s compact and can travel if you ever desire to take it with you .

@@stevecheng6428 It's great! I don't string a huge volume with it, but it's served me really well. Another stringer had a look at it the other day and was impressed by how smooth the clamps are. For this price range it's amazing.

You do not lose accuracy with the crank. You can easily calibrate it every string job if you want. When you pull a string to tension, say 60 pounds, it will lock out when a percentage of the fibers in that string reach 60. As soon as it locks out that segment's fibers equalize and the tension drops. Now if you have a constant pull such as the Wise it will pull and keep pulling to keep the string at 60. But then a second later you clamp off a segment of string and release the tensioner and even then it is still stretching and losing tension. You saved a second or two of tension loss that is going to keep happening. So you need to calibrate between crank and constant pull for customers. Constant pull is going to be 5 - 10 percent tighter than a crank lockout, or the wise set for lock out mode. As far as two and 6 point mounting, the most popular machine in pro shops is the Neos 1000 crank, which has two point mounting but not the those skinny metal bars you see on the expensive machines that have 6 point mounting. . You can not beat it for speed. Manufactures know this and the modern racquets do not have an issue with two point mounting. The swivel clamps are nice but not essential. Glide bars on a Neos are much faster and you only lock and unlock one piece, not the base and the clamp. But glide bars are not made for fan patterns and Prince gives you two adjustable floating clamps for those racquets. For racquetball racquets the fan patterns can not be dealt with floating clamps since for example one head goes to throat and then goes up to 5 head. So I would say the Neos would not be good for racquetball as they are all fan patterns.

Definitely getting a Wise 2086! The NEOs 1000 has been the gold-standard lockout machine over the last few decades. I believe Tennis Warehouse did or still does string all their customer frames with it, not to mention all the shops all over the world that do. I think if there was a real issue with two-point mounting systems it would have surfaced by now. Don't get me wrong, there is probably some truth to a 4 or 6 point system being better all things being equal. I'm just not convinced the 4 or 6 point systems are solving a problem that actually exists as the two-point systems are time tested without issue. Thanks!

Great point. Since making this video I've been introduced to some excellent 2 point stringers. Thought these mounting systems are a bit wider and more sophisticated than the cheaper 2 point mounts found on e.g. the Klippermate.

love your video! im seriously considering getting the PentaPremium + Wise Tension Head 2086. however, since it is electronic, it is definetely expensive if i need to replace the tension head....did you have any issues with the Tension Head? did you have to replace it/buy a new one because it basically stopped working? Id love to order from the UK website from your link but I live in Canada, so it makes it a little more complicated for warranties/replacing parts.
@gravitytennis
@gravitytennis Жыл бұрын
That's a great question. Wise is actually an American company, so it's possible they would handle the warranty domestically. In any case, I'm happy to say that I've had few problems with the tensioner. Once I needed to replace a part, and Wise sold it to me directly for under 30 dollars. It's an excellent company that stands by its product.

I'd like to buy this setup but I don't have much space in my house. Since I have a garage I was thinking to keep the mounting thing in the garage but take out the motor inside when I'm not using it, only to mount it when I string my racquets. Is that something feasible in your opinion?

Just checked it out, and it's a few screws into a mounting plate, and then two screws to mount the plate. I believe it came as part of kit that Wise may sell on their site separately. Let me know if that helps?

I have a premium Stringer with the drop weight. and then its half price. drop weight is quick enough. The Clamps on the Premium Stringer are not good bc they bite too hard on the strings and leave fat marks. I had to change them out with some better clamps with diamonddust that doesnt hurt the strings. Also the original clamps are too wide and hard to use.

That's partly true. The clamps are also pretty nice. What I like is that this stringer optimizes what's really important. If no corners were cut, the machine would cost much, much more, but thanks to Penta's priorities, you can string you're racket accurately for a budget price
