I can't recommend the ProbeMaster SMD kit enough. Beautiful probes with a range of removable gold tips. They don't break, especially because most of them auto-retract if you push to hard (yet are still very fine). They also 'grip' the small components, so you're not slipping all over the place. They're just beautiful, and not ridiculously expensive at all. I've also heard great things about Pomona.

I was drill a 0.8mm hole to the end of the broken tips, and soldered a sewing needle into it. Works perfectly.

My probe recommendation: Pomona 627x/634x or something in this range. The silky soft high flexible silicon cables and the wide range of probe tips is one of the beste on market.

Could we get a tour video of your work / lab area? It would be great to (at least briefly) go over the different tools you use and what you've modified or made. Maybe with links to the commercially available stuff? Enjoying watching your videos, thank you for sharing!

Nothing beat sewing machine needles tinned with low temp melt solder to the probe. I also use a lighter (fire) to bend the needles without break.

When my probe tip broke I soldered a office pin to the broken part and since the plastic was a bit loose from the heat I added a drop of superglue in there to make it more stable. It works just as good now.

I made my very fine probe tip from 0.5mm hard silver wire, jewelry use them, after that I file the tip on 3 face, narrow angle, works unbelievable. soldered to a bullet plug which fit my Fluke probe.

If you don't need replaceable tips or various accessories, Pomona 5953A is the way to go. Tips are extendable, insulated and very sharp, made of stainless steel. Leads are thin and very soft, with high temperature silicone insulation. Best test leads that I ever owned.

I use the same ones (at the end of video). I use the shield with the small leads, they will still bend but usually it stops them from breaking.

My Fluke probes are still going strong after 10 years of abuse... I've purchased a similar kit to that bionso and it broke in the same way after a few months.

they're a little goofy lookin, and a touch expensive, but probemaster has a set with some screw on adapters to convert the probes to banana plug, so you can put anything on them. they also sell high quality attachments for just about everything. some osc probes, automotive probes, you name it they sell it. you can even order custom probe leads that would fit anything banana plug/jack.

Instead of gold plated ones I actually prefer non plated steel pins. Gold is soft, so it's harder to make a contact when testing an oxidized joints. Steel pins, on the other hand, can poke through the oxidization layer easily.

I would say try the Probe Master probes but it is not your scenario I guess. Those are extremely good but expensive and with most models you can't exchange the tip. But they are accurate, awesome and ergonomic. But I am sure when you work you do not need to see perfect accuracy. More like confirmation of values. Probe Master probes are for people that need good probes and do not mind their price. They are not most expensive either.

Looking at the Aneng PT1010 probe set which comes with 6 probes talks about a ‘universal diameter’ of 2.7mm are cheap on Aliexpress and probably many other places.

I have, and use, a wide range of probes as they 'each' have their best use depending on the job I need them for :ø) Clips (standard size and micro size), Piercing, Pointy and Blunt (with and without insulating tip-cover), Ferrule, Banana plug (Safety + non-safety), .... Edit: Forgot crown-style pogo pins, and all the other types of test-bed styles pins that really bites/grips/pierces

Your pretty smart so you may have already thought about this but have you considered maybe hardening the brass tips before you use them so maybe they dont break, or maybe even finding a good machine shop to make to a set of copper tips

Probemasters. Probemasters, and you're done. Very modular, low noise and won't let you down. A worthy investment.
@northwestrepair3 ай бұрын
I looked at it. It connects to adapters via needle instead of a banana plug. Yes you can add a banana plug to the needle as it comes as part of the kit but i can do that with any leads. Plus those needles will break and gold plating will wear out like anywhere else overtime so there is no point to invest into disposable equipment like that unless you are in a medical field.

You probably already have, but have you tried contacting Bionso themselves or like some sort of customer support to ask if you can buy just the replacement tips? Sometimes sellers offer stuff like that. For instance a barcode scanner I bought recently has a continuous scanning mode, but to enable it you have to email the seller and then they send you a code to scan that turns it on for the scanner.

Great coverage of tips but would also be interested in your comments on the cable used ... I’ve been trying to find some of the floppy silicone type of lead but they seem to be less available these days. Perhaps it was difficult to get the insulation rating needed to pass the tests??

Hello. In Windows with no programs running. I open XI EVGA GPU Overclocking tool. My question is, should the clock be rotating through numbers or still at one. Notice mine rolls down to 251mghz or so and open a program and number rolls around. I close the program and the clock rolls back to 251? Is this normal clock activity?
