I posted my compliments on another video without including any spoilers, but since there's spoilers here, the one scene i saw coming was Hangman coming to the rescue, the one I didn't see coming that had me "woo hooing" was Maverick buzzing the tower.

Never thought a top gun sequel made my tears drop so many times throughout the movie. Maybe it's the nostalgia. Realizing your life will also come to an end as you grew from the first movie to the endless time you played top gun on the first Nintendo console. It all ran into your mind. Seeing Val Kilmer in his frayed self was tough. Losing a very close friend recently made you understand the relationship between Mav and Goose. I really came blank watching the movie, no review, no rotten tomatoes, no expectation. Well done top gun crews!

I was tear stricken too. The minute they played the opening music with the bell tolling, I was beside myself. Magical, nostalgic, just fantastic. Happiest I've been in a long time. I'm stoked the new mission impossible. Have a great day. 😊

Ha! As if the original wasn't already a really stupid movie! Everything about it was a completely false portrayal of how the Navy works and a cheesy soap opera (Is this a KISSING movie?), but at LEAST the original actually did have real, non computer generated dogfighting sequnces that were excellent, and obviously not easy to get camera footage. The sequel only tries to mimic all the scenes in the original in a really stupid way, stretches the tolerance of Naval command to the outermost limits of conceivable reality..... (Now Maverick! You really musn't do that again or you'll be court martialled. Don't be stealing top secret jets without authorization and flying mach 10. should we punish him again? Nah! We're forced to put him in command! We need Maverick!). I thought he was supposed to be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong!

For me the bittersweet stuff stung because of two main reasons. One, we’re all 36 years older so we identify with looking back with sadness. Both for good experiences and friends now distant memories and for the maturity to see and regret mistakes made and people we hurt.
@billporter1492 жыл бұрын
Very good movie, definitely a "big screen" experience. My wife and I were among the matinee showing crowd last weekend and by the age spread of the audience, this one is an "all ages" flick. Many in the crowd were, as my wife and myself, obviously coming back to see if this sequel brought the same feelings as the original that we attended on a date thirty-some years ago. So lots of action, lots of nostalgia and very little of the cringe that seems to proliferate many contemporary movies. I'm glad they were finally able to put this into the theaters.

I went to see Maverick with my Dad, who simply Loved Top Gun! "One of the best movies ever made!" he would exclaim. (And he was an old Air Force Guy.) Well, he thought Top Gun: Maverick was even better than the original! I loved the flying and the romance wasn't tacked-on... it had history, a measure of skepticism and naturalness and seemed like life. This was so worth the time, I'm going back to the theater with a couple of friends six days later.

3:15 "the spirit of the young 1980s Iceman lives on in Hangman..." *Nope.* And I don't know why so anyone who actually watched the original Top Gun would say this. Hangman is *FAR* more like the young Maverick than the cool-as-ice, by-the-book' Iceman who chided Mav for being a dangerous pilot who takes too many risks. But Hangman wears his ego on his sleeve even more than either Ice or Mav.

It would have been a nice touch at the end if Penny and Maverick got married at the end in a military wedding complete with his Top Gun crew drawing swords over their heads as they exited the church. To cap it off have Rooster be his best man. It would be like the son he never had be there and someone to represent the Anthony Edwards character. Certainly Goose would have been his best man if he had lived. What a tear jerker that would have been.

I mean, Top Gun Maverick is better than the original. It’s got a far more developed mission story, more rounded characters, particularly Iceman and Maverick’s story arc as a consequence of being older. It’s everything a sequel should be: a respectful homage to the original and the subject (navy pilots/Air Force). It’s tough to really think of much from the fun but ultimately fairly shallow original that isn’t inferior to the first one. Probably nobody being as good as Val Kilmer.

Just saw the movie tonight. Gotta say it was worth the wait. However, having seen the original as a kid, and then watching the new one, I have to admit that it made me feel... a little old. Still, fantastic film. Essentially a reboot of the first one, but it still involved a solid plot, good acting, brilliant cinematography (especially the aerial scenes, which they were basically required to nail if they wanted to make this a real Top Gun flick), and a little more light-hearted humor than in the original. It was interesting to see the more mature Maverick, who was still the guy we knew and loved in 1986, but with his rough edges rounded off a little. Even the love scene was surprisingly tame and grown up (not "adult," but "actual adults acting like real adults"). I plan on seeing it again tomorrow night.

I then went home and saw the Top Gun movie original and finished it feeling empty compared to the sequel. Just saw the movie on a 4K Atmos big screen. There were no 3D glasses which I was hoping for, but it was a big screen. I did make a mistake of being in a seat about 2/3 back from the front. In my opinion I was too far back. The screen looked just slightly larger than the normal ones. My suggestion is choose middle left and right, but choose a front and back spot about 1/4 or at the most 1/3 away from the screen so it will be even more exciting. Top Gun was one of my favorite films, and I was hoping I wouldn't be disappointed in this one. I really enjoyed it and want to see it again.
