This is coming from someone who has been on this platform for a WHILE at this point,I had an i9-12900ks and now an i9-13900k and Raptor lake is still on the 1700 socket/the Z790 uses the 1700 socket as well,this is just something that needs to be thought about/talked about. The real issue is,I think AMD is falling behind, YES they have 3D CPUs and MUCH better optimization,but their JUST getting DDR5 RAM and their JUST catching up at the end of a generation/the Meteor Lake platform/1851 socket,MAY come out SOON/the i9-14900ks, will most likely be released on the meteor lake platform/1851 socket. I think this is something people NEED to be thinking about, IF your planning on investing in Raptor Lake/Z790 boards/the meteor lake platform/the 1851 socket MAY be right around the corner,if you ALREADY own an alder lake board/an i9-12900k/ks,go ahead and get an i9-13900k,I don't think thats a bad idea,but investing in Alder Lake/Raptor Lake,this late in its life cycle, isn't necessarily a great idea/again most likely the i9-14900ks,will not be on Raptor Lake/the 1,700 socket and it will be on the meteor lake platform/the 1851 socket. To put this in prospective and I know this isn't the entire story/power/pin count isn't everything,but it does mean A LOT,more pins equals more power and more surface area,surface area allows for more cores and more pins allow you to power those cores/you won't have as many power restraints, this isn't the whole picture, but this is DEFINITELY something to think about, Kaby Lake,which came out in 2016 had 1,151 pins and AM4,that came out in 2016 had 1,331 pins,Alder Lake/Raptor Lake have 1,700 pins, AM5 has 1,718 pins and Meteor Lake has 1,851 pins,like I said pin count doesn't mean everything and it MAY be something AMD can work through with optimization,time will tell,but this is something that NEEDs to be brought up/at least looked at/observed.

I intended to buy an Asus Maximus Z790 Hero, but now, given their recent quality-control failures, I'm not so sure anymore. I want 96 GB of memory for creative applications, preferably at a high speed, so I'm looking at G.Skill's set at 6400 MHz & CL32, but not many Z790 ATX motherboards support this combination of capacity and speed. If I avoid Asus boards, my choice seems to be either MSI Carbon/Edge/Tomahawk or the Asrock Riptide; apparently no Gigabyte board supports 6400 MHz CL32 at 96 GB currently. I'm willing to pay a couple hundred bucks extra for added reliability, since I can't afford to have the motherboard fry any of the components, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much data on failure rates. I wish there were more statistics on this so consumers could make a more informed decision.

From what I assume you want to partner a ultra fast ddr5 ram with the build, then definitely go with a z790 mobo is more stable, if you like MSI I would recommend z790 carbon. Force is kind of in a weird place, it's more expensive than edge but has less feature than a meg board like ace or unify. If you want white cosmetics, strix-a or m14 formula are better choice. Love the content! I'm looking at building my first gaming PC in the next couple weeks and wanted to get your take on the best route to take. I'm going for 1440p gaming mostly but I do plan on playing some more open world/sim games in the future. I have a budget of about $1200. Do you think going the AMD route with either the 5600X(5700X if I go with a slightly cheaper motherboard) or an Intel 12th gen would be the better option? I don't care about overclocking. I'm leaning slightly to an AMD system because the b550 boards just seem to have everything I need with good audio for cheaper than the Intel boards. Just wanted to get your take on it.

5600X is roughly on par with the 12600K in gaming with slightly cheaper motherboards (though as you can see, Z690 has gotten much cheaper). For tighter budgets I'd go 5600X (or even just the 5600 to save money) and throw the savings into a faster GPU. Good luck on the build!

Great video. Checked out reviews for 13th gen, and I think that Intel has reached a bit of a crossroads for their CPUs. Despite large boosts in core count in 13th gen thanks to the extra E cores, Intel could not always best AMD in multithreading, especially vs R9 7950X. Notable are workloads that benefit from AVX512, which Intel does not support because the E core architecture doesn't support those instructions, and AMD took wins in said workloads. So simply throwing more E cores at the multithreading problem is not always the best solution. Clearly hybrid processors must be designed carefully, with the right balance of P and E cores, as well as make sure the two core designs support all the same instructions. (AMD actually teased this when they revealed Zen4, as the mentioned Zen4c, a E-core-esque version of Zen4 that still supports all of the same instructions, clearly a shot at Intel)
@PCBuilderChannel2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! Thanks for sharing.
@ishiddddd47832 жыл бұрын
both take trades, but intel other offerings just blowed AMD out of the water, especially in pricing, the 13600k being a 320usd chip beating the 7700x in MT workloads by quite a margin, and the 13700k getting close or par to the 7900x while being quite noticeable cheaper and much easier to cool than the i9 13900k, and thats without tunning. hybrid processors are the way in all honestly, especially with shrinking nodes, apple and intel are in the trend, and amd will hop in later just like intel is implementing 3D chips on meteor lake.

Thoughts on the Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE AX ATX vs Gigabyte Z790 GAMING X AX? They seem to be both similar in price and I can't seem why you'd get the Z690 instead? Thanks!

Great commentary on audio codec quality. Quick question. How do you identify the audio codec chipset if the motherboard specs just say "Realtek Audio CODEC". It never occurred to me that there could be quality differences between these chips. However, I only care about basic stereo from the line-out jack.

Man you are awesome ! I am upgrading my Ryzen 3700x to an 13600k and probably an ddr4 Gigabyte Board. I can use my 32gb ddr4 ram and the 13600k is much faster than my 3700x . You have gained a subscriber ^^

I'm planning on using an I5 13600 with a Z690 motherboard paired with the Radeon 7900 xtx, when it's released. I read that ASUS has updated their motherboards to support smart access memory for Radeon GPUs. Do most Z690 motherboards, from other manufacturers, also support smart access memory, in addition to rebar? Is this an important feature I should be looking for and possibly go with an AMD CPU instead?

Great video! 😊 Question should I be switching my 1070ti for something better since all the newer gpus have ray tracing and G-sync. ? Currently I just upgraded my cpu from a ryson 1700x to a i5 12600k. Right now my Monitor is plugged into the Asus prime Z690 P D4 so I am using the gpu driver from my cpu to help the 1070ti with some games (the game “Rust” for example). The problem is, if it is an problem 😂 that I can’t enable G-sync in the Nvidia settings. So I thought maybe I need to upgrade my gpu so i can enable G-sync and have ray tracing and better performance without stutter. Is it even reasonable to upgrade to a higher end gpu Nvidia/AMD?
@PCBuilderChannel2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean by using the iGPU to help in games. Typically if you select that it will use your iGPU instead of your 1070 Ti, not in addition to. Make sure your monitor is plugged into your monitor (use displayport if possible), select the 1070 Ti, and that should allow you to enable G-Sync (unless your monitor lacks it or Freesync which shows up as Gsync compatible). With the 12600K you can pretty much upgrade to the fastest GPU you'd like, great CPU. Hope all that helps!

Thanks for the reply, Just for clarifying I am using the power of the IGpu to power Wallpaper engine to have a nice smooth 60fps moving background. I thought that when you aren't in full screen in game (so in borderless window; which I use) that the background wallpaper also renders which makes my gaming performance tank. Which then my conclusion was that I will be using the IGpu for the sick wallpaper and the 1070ti for gaming (in that sense it helps the 1070ti does it not?)

Fantastic video.. thank you, Jason. My house fuse randomly trips every alternate day, I'm afraid of the sudden shutdown of the gaming pc.. Kindly advise on the wattage of a power backup, surge protector, So that The pc won't shut suddenly and I'll have time to reset the fuse... system is msi pro Z790 A with i5 13600k, asus tuf 4070 ti, corsair rme850 power supply. Estimated power draw 500-600 watts (excluding display) I'm confused between the ups rated 900w or 1000 w or 1500w. Leaning towards 900w based on budget.

Thanks for this vid! Currently have an i7-8700k with a RTX 3090 for playing triple-A games at 1440p 144hz. With black friday coming up the time seems right to upgrade the CPU. Was dreading having to buy new RAM, didn't even think about keeping my current DDR4. That should save some money. :)

Hello! What do you think about the Strix Z690-G Wifi paired with 13900KF and Trident Z5 6000Mhz CL36, no overclock intention for now. It has BIOS Flashback but the store already updated its BIOS. Bought this kit at a really nice price but still did not tested yet
@dreamEnd Жыл бұрын
Not sure if I'm misunderstanding something, but I would like a clarification. If I have a mid level DDR5 memory, for example 6200Mhz CL36 DDR5; And hypothetically putting them on the same "model" motherboard such as Strix Z690-F and Strix Z790-F, will I theoretically get a better performance with Z790? Or does this only apply to high end memory with speed rating above the marketed max Z690 memory? (6400mhz in this case)

The Gigabyte Z690 itx mobo you recommended only has pcie gen 3 for the gpu, is this a deal breaker?
@PCBuilderChannel2 жыл бұрын
YES! OMG how does that board even get approved as a design? I try to triple check everything, but there are some things I just assume (like at least PCIE gen 4 at the GPU slot on a Z690 board). I'm deleting it from the video (might take a day to process). Phantom Gaming Z690I is the best ITX then. Thank you for spotting that!
@CvpOfJoe2 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! It’s a shame there aren’t many decent itx options for motherboards nowadays, I was hoping to build an SFF system with the new generations of hardware coming out.
