I spent some time in Gabon in Jan-Feb. of 2007. Possibly the best preserved country left in Africa (I've seen a fair bit). Loango is amazing (yes, elephants on the beach). So are Lope and Ivindo national parks. Ivindo in particular is real National Geographic country, not easy to access. There is a WWF station there from which, after a half-day hike through the jungle, one can access an area (Langouie bai) famous for the study of lowland gorillas. Fortunately, many important areas of the country aare (so far) protected within national parks. Gabon is worth all the time and money it takes to visit, if you can arrange it.
