One of my all-time favorite foods is rattlesnake, the meat texture is like shrimp or prawn but more dense, and without the fishiness. You can braise it in tomato sauce, chilis, and garlic, then add it to your favorite chili recipe instead of beef. Mmmm....

Honestly the way Sonny reacted to that fermented sauce explains why this show has gone on till today. Keeping an open mind and understanding or even better, appreciating a different culture and way of life is easy to say but hard to really do. 1:55 I use sand worms for fish bait. However, the almost rainbow colours of those worms make me think of Froot Loops cereal. They are strangely appealing. Now, off to watch the rest of this video. Oh, Hi Calvin! EDIT: Annnd, I'm back at 7:30. If I was wealthy monetarily, and had a passport, and intended to travel, I'd definitely seek out that cafe and try the jellyfish and the fermented shrimp paste. The combination of the herbs, coconut, tofu, etc is intriguing. Oh, snake. Yeah, that's mainstream (for me). But not the heart. Raw. I'm quite fine with cooked blood. You know when your steak bleeds on the barbecue and cooks up? Yeah, that's good for my Aussie pallet. I have tasted fresh blood from a goat and...yeah, nah. The strong iron flavour and the texture kinda spin me out. Bile? I was taught by the local Traditional Owners up in the Aussie Northern Tropics where I lived 'off the land' for fun for a while, that when making Stingray broth, the gall bladder and bile duct had to be removed before cooking. The rest of the liver, stomach and intestine was used in the broth. My True Aussie brethren knew how foul bile fluid tasted. For the uninitiated person used to Western food, imagine drinking liquid vomit. You know that taste when a little bit of spew comes up the back of your throat? That times Ten. And I drink fish sauce for the flavour. Thanks again Sonny, and Calvin for a great introduction to foods we of European descent rarely, if ever will experience. I'm currently cooking a baby farmed barramundi (12 inches/30 centimetres) in lemon slices and juice. Later on, I'll remove all the lemon, spray the skin with rice bran oil and sprinkle some salt and pepper on it, then wrap it in foil and heat it, then char the skin, and hopefully retain the moisture in the flesh. Actually, I like small eels (I catch them myself), skinned, then 'cooked' in lemon and cold smoked.

When Calvin asked "When do you ever eat bones of anything?" My answer: Sardines and many dishes of deep fried fish including salmon. Bones are often grinded in a powder (hence: Bone Meal Powder) and added to various foods (like cereal, heck even dog food) to give it calcium. So to answer his question: All the time my dude, all the time.

@@mindysmom6132 so sorry to hear about your Aunt. Losing a loved on is difficult, to say the least. I just lost my husband. He passed away on May 31, just two months ago. So, my son and i want to travel to Bali as well... to spread a bit of his ashes. That’s where we were going to retire to next year. There is so much to deal with since he’s passed though. I never thought it would be so much work on top of the mourning and just plain fits of crying just about anytime and anywhere. That is why my son wants to take our trip to Tokyo as soon as we possibly can. It’s always been on my bucket list and he’s been to japan a couple times himself. He wants me to experience it while i still can enjoy myself, since his dad had so many plans for retirement that he didn’t get to carry out. But..enough sad stuff for now. I’m going to definitely make a red velvet cake for Sinichi.. and whatever else he and Satoshi want. I wish i could take some NY pastrami with me.. i know they miss having that when they go back to japan from visiting the states. :) I’m hoping i can get Satoshi to make me some of his Miso Soup. I’ve tried his recipe, but want to see how his tastes... cause i just know mine doesn’t turn out as good.. LoL Maybe someday we can all have a meet up.. wether in Japan, or maybe Hawaii or somewhere else in the states or canada when the guys come back for a visit....? We could do a pot luck type of thing and everyone bring something that is common from their area. I think that would be so nice.... and super interesting. Just some feedback - I like the idea of the show, and I like the dude but I really hate this typical American TV format. It feels like a big TV network has got their hands on it and edited it in the traditional dramatic way which stretches it out in order to make you watch ads every 5 minutes. It's repetitive, overly dramatic, padded out, cheesy with OTT SFX etc, and I can't watch because of it. I will just skip the video to the most interesting parts. Why stretch it out? This is not commercial TV where you can get away with repetition due to a million ad breaks, this is KZbin. - Just my opinion as a 38-year-old from the UK. If a big TV network doesn't call the shots then it's your editing team copying the traditional TV standard. Please don't make it like cheesy TV, make like like KZbin videos.

wow finally the episode where Sonny eats worms, I'm really glad I'm drunk, cause man, when I thought noodles from hell was cursed, this is more and I'm like did I hear him right? Finally the day I get to see him eat worms, based?

Sonny you are by far my favorite KZbin food channel, you literally eat everything for us and really show us the culture behind the food. Unlike other YTers who just take their gf to fancy food places to show off.

Generic comment about how great the co-host is, being respectful of the culture, and food looking so good.
