Elon has always said that subsidies are a big waste of money. He is not interested in hurting other EV manufacturers which he does not consider as competitors and has tried to help them in every possible way. He has made his charging network available to most EV manufacturers. He has made his Patents open to anyone that wants to use them. He has published and distributed a booklet on how to transition from 12 volts to 48 volts. He even gave the Volkswagen CEO a tour of one of his factories and gave a presentation to the board of Volkswagen. Are these the actions of a company trying to destroy the competition ???. The competitors are ICE cars and anyone producing BEVs is an ally. This is very important if you want to know how Elon thinks.

How do higher taxes reduce the national debt? The answer is simple: keep the net income low. But how do you do that? You invest in business growth. When corporations grow more people have good jobs. There is more product to be purchased and more private income going to starting small businesses. The economy flourishes and tax dollars to the government rise. The debt gets paid down.

Unfortunately, Donald Trump just committed to the oil CEOs (with a major contribution to his campaign) that he would do whatever they want. He was very explicit about how he personally wants to handle oil and gas policy while others could do everything else. TESLA Energy > oil & gas company.
@RealRadNek21 сағат бұрын
All in on Tesla, but Lars, you need to do some research on oil & gas subsidies to sift out the nuance which will help you get to the truth. You ought to ask Randy Kirk about this too as I have heard him say there are no such thing as "true" oil and gas subsidies in the US. The IMF is not such a good source as they come with huge idealogical assumptions which many n the industry recognize as flawed thinking and conclusions. What they are calling "subsidies" (in this case they split subsidies into "explicit & implicit) is not necessarily a subsidy. As well founded critics have noted, "...the [IMF] authors derive their conclusions by confusing subsidies with externalities. They divide the $7 trillion in subsidies into what they call explicit subsidies (such as mispricing [sic] of labor, capital, and materials) and implicit subsidies (such as harm from emissions and traffic congestion). About 18 percent, or $1.4 trillion, of the subsidies are explicit, and 82 percent, or $5.6 trillion, are implicit." In layman's terms, when a government hands an oil company any money (like sharing the financial risk of drilling an oil well on "government owned" land), they are calling that a subsidy. However, the reality is that when an oil company drills on government land, the government becomes a partner in the business as the land owner because the land owner (the government) will reap financial reward for the oil pumped out of that hole. Whether drilling is on government or private, an oil company will require all parties with financial interests in any potential profit to share the burden of financial loss or they won't drill unless they are absolutely sure the hole won't be dry. In the American market [I do not know about any other country], I have yet to see a true subsidy given by the Federal government to an oil company. Not saying there isn't one but I just have never seen a true subsidy. I've asked many and none can point me to any "true" subsidy. What everyone calls subsidies are not really subsidies. For example, go buy a Tesla and the federal government will write a check for ~$5000 for that car and the government has no financial gain in the stake. That's a true subsidy. It's free money for the buyer, but not for the tax payer because all debts are paid by someone. But, if Elon went out to the American West and "leased" from the Federal government a one mile by one mile square flat piece of sun soaked soil for pennies on the dollar (i.e. the government leases for less than the going rate) with an understanding that the government would get 10 cents per kilowatt hour produced by the solar panels Elon would put on this land, in our same illustration with oil companies, the IMF would call that, a government subsidy for Elon's solar farm. The reality is that it is not a subsidy. The moment the government agreed to give the land for less value on the lease agreeing to shared profit, the government becomes a business partner, not a subsidizer of Elon's business. You need to do better research about so called "oil" subsidies before you make claims. However, I'm open to being proven wrong cause we all can't know all of the scenarios out there. Would love to see what you got and I will stand corrected. All the best, love your content about Tesla.

The "fossil fuel subsidies" are based on how much they should be taxed to account for environmental damage. They aren't actual subsidies. If you look at subsidies in this way, the EV manufacturing and electricity generation from fossil fuels would also need to be included, not just the $7,500 purchase incentive subsidy. Also and at least as important in discussing passenger EVs, they only account for 40% of fossil fuel consumption. Other transportation {planes, trains, trucks) is just under 30% the other 30% is industry and heat.

That's right. Removing the EV subsidies won't hurt Tesla, at least not very much. As people watching this channel know, Tesla is making money on the BEVs they sell. BYD also makes a bit of money on the BEVs they sell. But everyone else seems incapable of making a profit on their BEV offerings. The subsidies were meant to help them out a bbit while they ramped up into profitable BEV production. But, since they continue to be auto assemblers, not auto manufacturers, outsourcing most parts and major components, keeping obsolete processes, their BEVs cost almost twice what they can sell them for. This is not a sustainable business model. The only efforts they make are to try and evade the EPA fines for emissions. So, sorry big auto, you will not survive this decade. You could have had good BEVs as early as the mid 90's, but you crushed those cars and cancelled the project. Now, you will pay the cost of your collusion with big oil. And yes, if we paid the real cost of gasoline, people would be buying a lot more BEVs. Edit: Oh, sorry. We do pay the real cost of gasoline. It's just that the cost is buried in your taxes.

@PeterTodd-sw8vz18 сағат бұрын
Love your channel. I do want to point out however that the IMF paper claiming $7 trillion in subsidies for fossil fuels is complete B.S. Most of that number is from arguing that fossil fuels should be taxed more to account for environmental degradation and calling the supposed under-taxation a subsidy. While it may be reasonable policy to tax fossil fuels more, not doing so is not a subsidy. They also seem to count tax deductions that energy producers can take based on costs and depreciation as subsidies. Again, this is B.S. In the real world fossil fuel energy producers and consumers pay huge taxes. I pay big gas tax every time I fill up (I have ICE and electric cars), and there are serious taxes in my electric and natural gas bills as well. Taxes are the opposite of subsidies. I look forward to a renewable energy future and expect all my future vehicle purchases will be EVs. We can be pro renewables without telling lies about fossil fuels.

The automotive industry is experiencing a tripple whammy paradigm shift of, perhaps never seen before, dimension. 1. Legacy car makers are trying desperatly to stay relevant and profitable, after loosing their Chinese cashcow to rapid adoption of simpler, i.e. cheaper to produce, EV technology. 2. Brand loyalty, the oh so comfortable security blanket, for the established auto makers, is eveporating fast; leaving marketing departments scrambling with increasingly desperate and comical "test" re-branding campains. 3. The "rev-head killer app": FSD! No responsible government will be able to resist making FSD use MANDATORY, once it is proven to be safer than human drivers. Next step: Fully integrated, networked FSD; dramatically simplifying and automating traffic flow control and transport infrastructure planning. Flow-on effects will be wide-ranging and, in some cases, dramatic. Any number of associated industries will see unprecedented disruption or disappear within decades! Smash repairers, insurers, after market accessory suppliers, auto tuners, etc., etc.

Tesla would’ve been doing when all the electric car companies came out of electric car. Had they not dropped their prices in half. Like who is going to spend that much on a car when you can get one with a fancier name for the same price. The sandwich truck is the only new thing because it’s Different and eye catching in some ways that is grabbing people’s attention and thinking about a Tesla but the rest of the cars they’re just mundane in comparison. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t like that Tesla truck and would never buy a cyber truck. I wouldn’t even buy one if it was free I’ve seen the quality of cars overtime and how it degrades overtime and I am not impressed
