One factor not mentioned is that zippo lighter give the fumes of gasoline so not so great to use indoors and not well ventilated. Hot hands are great in that size doesn’t add bulk so you can easily have two packets for two hands. Also great for emergencies since they don’t typically expired unless hole punctured. So you don’t have to remember to recharge it not light a flame. The last option you mentioned is nice because you can control the level heat and turn off when you don’t need it

That is true, while refueling the Zippo can produce some fumes, these are not significant once the warmer is started. It's actually very fuel efficient and functions excellently indoors. Thanks for sharing your insights!

@@BestProductQuest Im glad you responded to that because im looking for a hand warmer and would have ruled out the zippo, I have looked at the zippo before '' last year '' and was wondering if the fumes would be bad or not, The main reason im looking at this is because it can be refilled and used fast without a long charge time, The other option im looking at have some plusses like a flashlight and can charge a phone, So many choices and so little money lol , Good video ty

7:48 the zippo hand warmer is hottest at the top as the heat radiates directly upwards from the catalytic source. When you put the lid on the heat will better spread to the entire container but even then it’s still hottest at the very top and gets cooler the further down you go. Generally the bottom doesn’t get very warm. So your heat rating may have not been the most accurate. Also using a food thermometer is probably not as accurate as using a laser thermometer tho that’s if you want to be super precise. Also also, you’re supposed to put it in the bag that it comes with. The reduction in oxygen will cause the hand warmer to last even longer, though it might not be as hot.

I use both the HotHands and a Fuel-burning hand heater in a hunting conditions. I use both in a hand-muff, but the Fuel-burning hand heater (Jon-E or similar Japans/Korenian/HongKong/ 1960-80 style warmer) seem to output more heat as the unit has a large surface area that heats. Above 35F, HotHands below this, Fuel Heaters due to the length of burn time.

Zippo, mini Jerry can that doesn’t seal, it’s a measuring and transfer use only. Have to buy a portable refill container. Also quick tip, don’t buy zippo fluid for it, naptha at most hardware stores is the same thing pretty much and it’s about 20$ for a gallon

The only two that seem like a good option to me are the zippo and the hothands, I will compare the price (in my contry). The Zippo costs $30 and each refill is 0.7oz, a 4.5 oz bottle costs $4, that is, $0.62 per refill, 5 cents per hour, and a pack of 30 hothands costs $15, that is, $0.5 each, 5 cents per hour. I guess the decision comes down to whether you prefer the lightness of the HOTHANDS or the extra warmth that the zippo provides.

Very interesting to think of hand warmers in terms of cost per hour! This would be very hard when comparing battery powered options since they can last years, yet also require electricity to charge. Thanks for sharing!

Yeah but the elements has a phone charger and flashlight. I’d get an elements, a zippo hand warmer . Covers multiple purposes and can last almost a full work day .. 7 hours is perfect with a lunch break included to warm up in the work truck on lunch & charge your phone. Would be interesting to see how long it lasts while charging a phone to 50% though

Background music was obnoxious. Are Hot Hands the only one small enough to go inside gloves?
@BestProductQuest Жыл бұрын
Correct, the zippo warmer might be able to fit into a large glove., but the hot hands are the only option that would easily fit into gloves.

My only comment relates to cost, you did not give a price for each unit as they stand. I would assume that the two non-rechargeable units would be less expensive than the old tech ones. I am going to see what I can find on eBay concerning the cost of the Hot Hands vs. the Zippo.
@mikehoward8201 Жыл бұрын
And If your power is off, then you cannot charge them! The non-electrics last a bit longer and no concern about needing power.
@BestProductQuest Жыл бұрын
That's true, you will need power to charge some of these. Thanks for your feedback about prices, though it can be tricky to state prices as they fluctuate, and there are different expenses that come with electric vs fuel vs disposable that should be considered as well.
@kctyphoon11 ай бұрын
Only downside of the zippo aside from needing fuel, is that you can't really turn it off. It works exceptionally well, and a smaller model is available. I have both and have used them on occasion since I work outdoors. Whoever said its not well suited for indoor use because of fumes must wear a helmet, and apparently doesn't know what kerosene heaters or kerosene lamps are either. Yes, there is a slight odor as with anything that burns fuel, but you'll be fine as long you don't drink it dude. And it uses butane guy, not gasoline.

15ml of zippo fuel = ~130wh of energy 5200mah = 19wh of energy really hard to beat the volumetric and weight efficiency of hydrocarbon fuel. on paper assuming perfect efficiency of both devices, the zippo has about 6-7x more energy to make heat with. rechargeable hand warmer will only last ~100-300 uses. zippo hand warmer has a lot of misunderstood factors which can make the difference between the catalyst lasting 5 uses or 500 uses. in genreal, you can buy a lifetime supply of zippo catalyst material for 5-10$ called fireplace cinders and repack yourself for next to nothing. zippo hand warmer catalyst is damaged by low oxygen extinguishing like all the people suggesting to put it out in a plastic bag. just leave it alone. zippo hand warmer is also damaged by over fueling and liquid fuel touching the catalyst which can happen easily if it is laid on its side. you will notice it will extinguish and when relit the entire catalyst will catch on fire which is not good for it since the center part of the flame is actually not hot enough to allow the catalyst material to self clean, and it doesnt have enough oxygen to function. this is also highly fuel dependent, using any fuel with any alcohol component will damage the catalyst. the older styles were flat on the base and easier to stand up.

The issue that I found with this Zippo is that as stated on other comments it give off fumes while in use, therefore it's not ideal for hunting where the odor could be detramental to your hunt. I use something very simular to the Ocoopa (Ozark trail knock off) for main heat and carry a couple Hothands for emergancy use. Along with a solar charged battery bank for extra power for my hand warmer and GPS unit. Going hunting in areas where you may be put in a survival situation not putting all of your eggs in one basket is best.

You didn’t tell us what they felt like in your hands. That’s The most important part next to the heat.
@BestProductQuest Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback! I would say that the Ocoopa, Zippo, and Hot Hands warmers felt like they could warm the hands most efficiently because of the surface area and high temperatures. On a related note, the Ocoopa is quite weighty and can be used with bare hands, while the Zippo really does need to be in the bag to be safe for skin. I'm not sure if that answers your question, but I hope it helps!

Honestly, the Ocoopa gets the most use on a daily basis. If camping or working outdoors, I would choose the Zippo warmer and some Hot Hands as a backup. It's always handy to have packs of Hot Hands stashed around in places like your jackets and glove compartment. Thanks for asking!
