The slime enemies are called Zols. Zols exist in Zelda 1, ALttP, Link's Awakening, and the Oracles to name a few games. Weird how they never made the transition to 3D.

Technically Chus from Twilight Princess are those, but with a different name and they produce Chu Jelly
@ZeldaboyOG3 жыл бұрын
Zols break down into small Gels. Then in Zelda 2 you had Bits and Bots, neither of which break down. Since the OoT beta ones break down into smaller ones I would agree with you that they are Zols. The TP Chus should also be Zols.
@dawnbreaker29122 жыл бұрын
I think they just became the Chus in later games, and they never bothered to retcon the original. Or maybe that's just what they were called at that Hyrule timeline. Zelda 2 just randomly renamed a bunch of monsters unnecessarily to add confusion (Keese are called "Aches" for some inexplicable reason, and you'll never convince me that Iron Knuckles and Darknuts are not the same thing).

It was really cool to see some info on some cut enemies from Ocarina of Time. I really like the prototype Octoroks as you can see how they tried so hard to model it off the original NES version....and it looks so ridiculously out of place-straight out of the early trailers! The current version in comparison looks so much different. I also want to give a high five to whomever in the development team thought to use the ARWING to simulate Volvagia’s movements-that’s some ingenuity right there! The beta chu was funky to see as well. I wonder why it was scrapped? I always love when a prototype element from an earlier game makes its way into a newer one-like how we see the chus in Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. All of these videos have been very enjoyable to watch so far. I basically eat up any alpha/beta/cut Zelda content, so the gigaleak was a great time for me LOL
@TheObsessiveGamer4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah I feel early builds of Zelda 64 were taking more a NES inspiration with its cartoony design while later they started to go for more the ALTTP realistic look. I do have in the description a link to the interview of the Arwing which credits the guys who thought of this genius move if you are interested. I imagine the Beta Chu was taken out cause him splitting apart into multiple enemies may have been a bit much for the N64s memory to muster. Regardless, thank you for enjoying all these! planning to return with more.

What I find interesting about the Beta Iron Knuckles is how close they were to how Iron Knuckles were in Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link, with them wielding a Sword & Shield and everything. Though having Iron Knuckles wield an axe in the final game does help the Iron Knuckles stand out from Darknuts. Even though Darknuts & Iron Knuckles never appear in same the game together outside of The CD-i games, Cadence of Hyrule and The Relics of Hyrule Mod for Skyrim.

Notice how the beta floormaster/wallmaster has 4 fingers, while the final one has 5. This change was probably done to conform to censorship laws and standards, because four fingers is associated with Yakuza.
@TheObsessiveGamer3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm is there a censorship law like that considering Yakuza games have the 4 finger display at times?
@radishpineapple743 жыл бұрын
@@TheObsessiveGamer The four-fingered thing isn't a law as far as I know, but it's still a standard in that publishers will usually self-censor themselves in order to avoid controversy. There are cases like the Simpsons which famously have 4 fingers without much trouble, but on the other hand, there are many cases where publishers go through the effort and expense to add a finger.

I don't remember if this was confirmed or not, but wasn't Ocarina originally being developed as a Zelda II overhaul/ remake on the N64? I want to say a lot of the earliest content, even Link's model with brown hair and yellow band hat were evidence of this. Not to mention a lot of the enemy designs, when compared to their Zelda II counterparts, do have quite the similar look before being remodeled, textured, and completed to what we see in OoT.

@@tafferchuck1349 The big red button is from the GameCube version of Ocarina of Time. The Arwing is found within the data of the game. I literally captured this footage myself by enabling from within the data, the Arwing to appear. I only use the GameCube version because it is easier to mess with, but this can be done on the original too. Hell, literally pull out an N64 copy of the game, a gameshark, and find the code to activate the Arwing. It works.
