Beth Moore took a small excerpt of a deep Edwards sermon and used it to further her lacking theology. Edwards is completely correct in that our sin makes us untenable to a Holy God. That is the very truth that necessitated the need for Christ's perfect sacrifice. Beth Moore has chosen to stop before the "good news" and express her horror to simply draw attention to herself and her uber lovingness (again). Her thirst to stay in the spotlight is slaked at a high price. Bad theology is deadly.

And why we know Jesus isn't God in the flesh. People try to make God our best friend. He is HOLY and set apart and we are only in covenant with Him because He sent His son to redeem us. God does not dwell with SIN. He has 7 Spirits and His Son to help us get back into relationship to His kingdom.

Anyone who really looks at Edward's sermon would know that his doctrine was just as false as anything Beth Moore teaches. Just because this particular Edwards sermon is famous, it doesn't make it biblical. And furthermore, Edwards isn't beyond reproach just because Protestants love to make idols and celebrities out of their pastors.

Great rebuttal to Beth Moore. If you negate the sting of death and hell to the unbeliever, if you dilute the urgency and finality of eternity apart from God, if u fail to communicate the utter depravity of a sinner in need of a Savior, what gospel are we even preaching? And there u have the beginnings of ineffectiveness and apostasy in the church.

Jonathon Edwards was a shy, retiring person who was very soft spoken. He was an academic who loved study and research. He was not someone who yelled or screamed at people and pounded on the pulpit when delivering a sermon. He typically read his sermons in a quiet, monotone voice. So it wasn’t his delivery but rather what he wrote that set off the first great awakening. He was one of America’s greatest intellectuals who wrote several classics on theology. He was the last person you’d think God would use to bring about a great spiritual awakening.

This is a quote from a Christianity Today article about Jonathan Edwards, which I found pertinent to this discussion: " Popular caricatures of Jonathan Edwards’s theology focus almost solely on divine wrath, usually in reference to his infamously titled sermon, “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God.” A deeper read of his theology, however, discovers instead that God’s love is the impetus for Edwards’s understanding of salvation." *Note- I personally would never use word "infamous" (as Christianity Today uses in the quote above) to describe the "Sinners in the Hand of an Angry God" sermon, as God's wrath is clearly, spoken about, even in the New Testament.

He wasn't scheduled to preach that day in Enfield, Connecticut. The preacher was sick, he was only a vistor, and they asked if he would be willing to fill-in. He had the sermon with him which he had already preached to no known effect at his own church. The Holy Spirit moved in this situation this time and not only at that little small-town church - it was published and the Spirit moved like wildfire throughout the colonies. It was the "Great Awakening". May we have another one very soon!

When he preached this sermon, accounts of reactions in the pews tell of people desperately calling out what must we do to be saved? The people were convicted and had an acute sense of their personal complete need of a Savior.

@Melissa Eberhart friend, you are ignorant of God's word. Penal substitutionary atonement is Biblical, Christ died on the cross for our sins, in our place, He bore our sins on His body, Jesus Christ bore the wrath of God for our sins, He died as our substitute. Whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. The wrath of God against our sins was poured on Jesus Christ on the cross. Those who believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ and Him crucified for our sins and risen from the dead for our justification have been saved by grace through faith and that not of ourselves, it is a gift of God. You are very ignorant of what the Wrath of God really is. You made a stupid statement about the wrath of God. The wrath of God is not something God needs to get out of His system. The wrath of God is one of His attributes and His wrath is Holy, Righteous and Just. Therfore every sinner that dies without the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will be justly condemned in eternal hell. Friend, If you do not believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins as your substitute and rose from the dead for your justification, you are still walking in darkness and the darkness has blinded your eyes to clearly see that Jesus Christ did indeed die on the cross for our sins as our substitute. The just one Jesus Christ died for the unjust ones us, sinners. I hope you come to the cross of Christ and humbly believe and trust Him as your Lord and Savior.

I think both of these people are examples--or at least, can be examples--of imbalanced Christianity. I can't say I know both of them fully (although, I am well aware of Edward's doctrine of Calvinism; which is false by the way); however, if what I think of them stands true (Beth Moore largely representing easy blelievism, blab it and grab, confess it to possess it, speak it to reap it prosperity gospel, and Edward's representing Calvinism), then both of them aren't the best example of what a Christian should think, do, and practice. Maybe they're both moral people, but their doctrines are both off. Edward's sermon, "sinners in the hands of an angry God" is too extreme (and yes, I have read it all, maybe twice). I am not saying wrath isn't biblical, because it is. But if you read that sermon, all it virtually is is an horrifying indictment (and yes, there are warnings in the Bible we should be afraid of). But always speaking of wrath, bondage of sin (which isn't true for the believer), depravity isn't correct; neither is always speaking of material wealth, prosperity, and health (and those things are true too) correct either. the Bible speaks of both. Therefore, let us be faithful to honestly and accurately the entire counsel of God, rather than continue to speak on what are our hobbies horses.

It is disappointing to see Beth Moore become so shallow on God's Word. After all the Bible studies and teaching she has done, it is unbelievable that she would get Jonathan Edwards so wrong. Are her literary skills that lacking? Context is important, and almost always explains many differences. But in this case, the difference just isn't there. She may not like Edwards' choice of words or analogies, but he is spot on with the truth.

Sad to say, the Jesus that Beth Moore offers the world is not one who can save. Jesus came to offer his life BECAUSE we are lost sinners. She has bought into the idea that we are all God's children, which we are not. We become God's children when we repent and accept the sacrifice for our sins.

Hmm... Sorry, Allie, I have never been okay with men dressing as women. I've never found it funny, but creepy. Even before I was saved, I wouldn't go to the drag club to see a man dressed as a woman. Didn't like Mrs. Doubtfire, etc.

I'm in Canada. The covid lockdowns were soooo bad here. Teens were arrested for playing ice hockey in an outdoor rink with one other person. My husband runs a sports club in our city and it wasn't until this past fall (Oct. 2022) that he could find a facility that would rent him space for their club. There is a family support group in our city that runs stuff like breastfeeding group, dad and kids supper group, etc. that still asks vaccine status and requires masks for unvaccinated. All our health facilities (hospitals, clinic, chiro, physio, massage) require masks still. It is crazy. So many teen suicides and so many people still hiding in their homes. Awful.

Canada is as bad as Russia, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan in their treatment of their citizens and their tyrannical ideology. The citizens of Canada deserve better. They had a terrible time during the pandemic and still do in many ways. The have jailed pastors for holding church services during the pandemic.

One thing that was interesting was when Johnathan Edwards gave that sermon, he did so in a monotone voice so he wouldn't invoke an emotional response.

I generally like Jonathan Edwards' sermon "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God", but in some parts I think he goes further afield from the Scriptures in his commentary than is necessary to make his case. The Bible makes its points as powerfully as possible, and no man need, nor can, increase the force of its polemic.

Second Timothy 4:3 - For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but having itching ears, they shall heap to themselves teachers in accordance with their own lusts. She scratches to those whose ears are tickled. WE NEED pastors to step back up to the pulpit and start telling it like it really is. I'm sick of the way they sidestep the Word and only deliver what isn't going to stir the pot. God help us, our Christian leaders have failed us all.

The Bible is absolutely filled with the justice and wrath of God. It is also filled with His mercy, grace, compassion, and love. They go hand in hand. Psalm 11:5-7 5The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence. Let him rain coals on the wicked; fire and sulfur and a scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup. For the LORD is righteous; he loves righteous deeds; the upright shall behold his face.

Miss Netherlands is a Stoupe Waffle! Makes perfect sense and is fun. T&T has Indian roots and is Hindu. Many of the people living there have Indian heritage. The British brought Indian people over to help build up the T&T colony. They have done this costume of your country for a very long time. Kind of like Miss America and their show parade. US is the first on the moon. The Statue of Liberty has been done many times. And Miss Ukraine, we had earmarked money for them to create that ;)

Childhood obesity is largely because of the massive amounts of sugar that these kids are consuming. I work at a school. Sugar fur breakfast with sugar drink, chocolate milk for snack, sugared fruit in lunches alongside with plastic food for a lunch entree, sugar snack with chocolate milk only a couple of hours later. Birthday cupcakes every few days too. I took an abnormal psychology class last month, and the reading text pounded that “studies” showed that sugar played no part whatsoever in childhood obesity and the so called “adhd”. I disagreed every single time in my comments. It’s complete crap.

Your comments on anti-gas stove studies being biased are interesting because the opposite is true as well for studies about gas being good come from agencies in support of gas. I think that is the problem with studies and stats. People use the ones that support their claim only instead of looking at all the data. I'm not saying either side is right, just saying both are acting slimey
