Gracias a la vida” (Thanks to Life), became one of the "New Song Movements" best-known songs world-wide, thanks to Mercedes’ interpretation, which is remarkably persuasive and personal, so much so that the song became her trademark for good. In the Unites States it was sung by Joan Baez, who also used her popularity as a vehicle for social protest, expressing anti-imperialist views resulting from the Vietnam War.

She is a legend not only because of her voice, but because of her integrity .This is how Joan Baéz describes her: "Ms. Sosa maintains a balance between craft and conviction that endows her music with a searing honesty and power. I have never seen anything like her. She is monumental in stature, a brilliant singer with tremendous charisma who is both a voice and a persona. She may not look like Tina Turner, but she can hold an audience from the stage. When we were singing in concerts together, I would weep all through her set. It embarrassed her, but one night I got down on my knees and kissed her feet. I hadn't been so moved by music in a long time. As far as performers go, she is simply the best.”

Thanks to life that has gave me so much It gave me two bright stars that when I open them I can see clearly between the black and the white And high in the sky is the starry background And among the people is the man I love Thanks to life that has gave me so much It gave me the ear that in all its width Every night and day, crickets and canaries, hammers, turbines, barkles, squalls, And my lover’s sweet voice Thanks to life that has gave me so much It gave me the sound and the alphabet With it I bring the words that I think and declare Mother, friend, brother and a light shining The route of the soul whom I love Thanks to life that has gave me so much It gave me the march of my tired feet with them I travel over cities and puddles, Beach and deserts, mountains and plains And your house, your street and your playground Thanks to life that has gave me so much It gave me the heart that shakes its frame When I look the fruit of human brain When I look the good away from the bad When I look the bottom of your light-colored eyes. Thanks to life that has gave me so much It gave me joy and it gave me crying That way I distinguish bliss from affliction The two materials that build my singing And your singing that is the same And everyone’s singing that is my own singing Thanks to life Mercedes Sosa was a huge artist. This is the translation of this piece of our history: Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me two beams of light, that when opened, Can perfectly distinguish black from white And in the sky above, her starry backdrop, And from within the multitude The one that I love. Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me an ear that, in all of its width Records- night and day-crickets and canaries, Hammers and turbines and bricks and storms, And the tender voice of my beloved. Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me sound and the alphabet. With them the words that I think and declare: "Mother," "Friend," "Brother" and the light shining. The route of the soul from which comes love. Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me the ability to walk with my tired feet. With them I have traversed cities and puddles Valleys and deserts, mountains and plains. And your house, your street and your patio. Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me a heart, that causes my frame to shudder, When I see the fruit of the human brain, When I see good so far from bad, When I see within the clarity of your eyes... Thanks to life, which has given me so much. It gave me laughter and it gave me longing. With them I distinguish happiness and pain- The two materials from which my songs are formed, And your song, as well, which is the same song. And everyone's song, which is my very song. Mercedes!!! Una de nuestras voces latinoamericanas más hermosas. Una mujer con tanto amor por la tierra y la raíces. Canción de Violeta Parra .

It is really impress that the coach does not know spanish, and she understood that feeling of love when she sings “cuando miro al fondo de tus ojos claros” ( when I see inside your light-colored eyes).

The song is from a chilean who created Violeta Parra she credited at the beginning she had beautiful lyrics. This songs is about thanking life for your heart your brain, your love, your word it is beautiful

I speak both English and Spanish fluently, and I think it's impossible to do justice to the absolutely beautiful and poignant lyrics if you translate them to English. No matter how much you play with semantics and how hard you search in your thesaurus to make it work. You _have to_ speak Spanish to fully appreciate how profound these words are. It's just pure poetry.
