To answer your question, “did anyone else see the best ball in hand situation on that tough layout from the two to the three?” I was shocked that I saw it as you were contemplating best case scenarios. I love this training session and am super fired up to start practicing with six balls. This has been a weakness of mine in that I can get myself into trouble with poor ball in hand choices. I’m only now starting to run back to back nine ball racks and can consistently running once every 4-5 racks so I’m betting this will up my percentages for sure. Thanks again Niels!

Wonderful lesson! As an amateur it's so interesting to see the though process from a world-class pro. Such humility too, here you are one of the top players in the world and you still always say things like "in my opinion", leaving open the possibility that there might be other options out there.

37:59 this was the most instructive rack of the video for me I would say. I always find myself in these sorts of situations where the harder shot leads to better/easier position. I know that what you ultimately picked is the best way to play it, yet I have a hard time having the conviction to commit to the harder shot that has the better reward. I'd like to point out that despite missing the 2, you left it pretty safe (at least against the type of people I play against), yet had the 2 gone in, you would have solved the rack. I almost certainly would have tried to float the cue ball down the table off of the 2, and likely bumped the 7 or 8 - just because this is the shot that I'm more likely to make on the 2. This is definitely something worth thinking about more actively the next time I go to play. I think a fun exercise for someone would be to count the number of times that you end up out of position vs missing a shot. If you're out of position way, way more often than you're missing the shot, perhaps it's time to start evaluating more difficult shots that lead to easier positioning.

It's crazy how I was just playing earlier and finally thought of following through rather than drawing on shots prior to seeing this video. Now hearing it from you more detailed further strengthens and enforces my thoughts on it. Far too often would I end up over/under drawing a shot that I could have rolled forward much easier for. Thanks for the help brother, much appreciated!

Hhh very nice to see you didn't cut the ball in hand miss at 59:10, just to prove that we are all human, including professionals! For the same case though I would think go with two rails into the line (top and right rails), which would be more straight in this way, in my opinion. And, really informative video Niels, would definitely like anther one in the future!

Your videos are hands down a 10/10...(The knowledge and wisdom from a HOF career being dropped in these vids is priceless and I hope everyone appreciates it as much as I do!) if you wanted to make it an 11/10, add a graphic that shows where you're hitting the cue ball on each shot. Either way, keep up the good work. Easily my new favorite YT channel.

👏👏Another very excellent video. I remember Kinister's "it's a hanger" vid and this 'ball in hand' vid is even more important than that IMO. The opportunity ball in hand presents is too often wasted by not 'thinking' beyond the ball you're looking at.

At 12:59, what do you think about shooting follow towards the short rail for the 1, then another follow to pocket the 2 in the bottom right (from the camera's perspective) to roll naturally into shape on the 3?
