I have to say, young people growing up nowadays are SO lucky to have the access to information that they do compared to when i was coming up in the pool game. I had a bin full of old Bert Kinister VHS tapes (BTW you we're in those videos Niels!), and taped matches from the late 90's/early 2000's World Pool Championships that would air on TV each summer. I would've killed to be able to log on to KZbin and get a 90 min 8-ball lesson from the GOAT himself. What a time to be alive!

Neil’s, as a fan and lifelong player, you are my favorite pool player to watch practice. I sometimes feel frantic and lost over a bar box with 15 balls on it. In the first 5 minutes, you drive home the precision needed to do well in any pool game. Free flowing commentary about cloth conditions, mis hit draw shot (drag), shot queues like ‘let your stroke out’. You empart so much information. I could sit and watch your videos and matches all day. Thank You, sincerely.

Niels Thank you for your time on and off the table. I just wanted to say I started watching this video mainly because of course its 8 ball related, and I do primarily play 8 ball..... but wanted to say I believe you have helped me with slowing down even more and spending a little extra time on reading the table. 8 ball can be a little complex in many ways. Generally I'm looking for troubled spots and balls that can tie me in to the 8. With the little extra time you have shown me several different options as well as view points. I'm always playing 3 ball patterns, but now I've kind of shifted over to our transitional play as far as linking things as a whole. Thank you and I Appreciate you. Hopefully will see you in Vegas this coming September 2021. I've got a professional instructor, tons of reading and video material and train every day. I really enjoy watching and listening to your progression through every shot and game. Your information is not stale or repetitive as some instructors can be. I love 8 ball!! And your channel, in fact here in Costa Rica we play a variation of the normal 8 ball and it's more challenging and fun (for us amateurs) if you have the time I'd love if you read this and maybe try it. I don't know if a pro would like it but here are the rules: -We mark the side pockets as "1" and "15" if you shoot solids you have to make the 1 ball in the "1" side pocket and your opponent has to make the 15 ball in the other side -The 1 and 15 ball have to be racked opposite to the respective side pocket (above the 8 ball, the 8 goes to the center of the rack) - Those two balls (1 and 15) have to enter the pocket "clean" this means you cannot carom the cue ball or other balls to make them, you cannot make them as a combination If you make them and foul the ball has to be put in the spot - Each player has to "respect" the other player (1 or 15) ball position, this means if you shoot stripes and bump the 1 ball, after your inning you have to restore the 1 ball position -You play what you make first (if you make the 8 ball all balls are back at the table but each one spaced one ball apart) -if you make the 1 or 15 on the break they have to be put on the spot again spaced one ball apart (let's say you make the 10 and 1 ball, then you play stripes but have to put the 1 ball on the spot) - the spotted balls have a priority, when there are other balls on the spot you have to move them to put the 8 ball first, then the 1 or 15 have the second priority and other balls are third priority in the order they were moved (I know it sounds tricky like rotation rules, but it's fun!) -if you make the 8 ball before either the 1 or 15 are pocketed, it's not loss of game you have to spot the 8 ball and loss your inning, but afterwards it is loss of game - the 8 ball again has to be made "clean" this means you cannot carom into any ball with the 8 -Ball in hand is only behind the line (no ball is put on the spot, you have to kick or masse to play a ball behind the line) -You don't have to touch a rail when playing the 1 or 15 ball AND THAT'S IT! I hope you read this Niels!

Love this video! Great tips and insight from a professional on how to think through a rack. You have recently become my favorite instructional pool videos to watch. I have recently started trying to become a much better pool player, but struggle with cue ball control and overall understanding it. It would help greatly if with each shot, not only do you explain where you want to put the cue ball and the predicted cue ball path, but also say where you are hitting the cue ball and if any, what kind of English. I’m sure intermediate and better pool players know and can see exactly how you are taking the shot, but when I’m watching this if you don’t explain how your hitting the cue, I’m basically just guessing. So on a lot of shots. I’m stuck wondering how you made the cue ball go where you wanted cause I don’t know how you are hitting the cue ball; high, low, left, right, high left, etc.

@38:47 If you pick solids I think you can start with the 1 ball, as it gives you a path to the 4 in the side. Bridging over the pocket there also gives you better speed/spin control. So 1 in the corner, 4 in side, 7 in corner. Off that 7 ball I think you could land on the 3 in the side to get it out of the way. Rolling forward on the 3 to get on the 6 in the lower-left corner. Then off the 6 to the middle of the table for the 5 in the bottom right, then that shot takes you off the short rail to the 2 ball in the same pocket, and that gets you back around the 15 for the 8 in the lower left corner. I can see it... It's doubtful I could execute it. Sharivari and you could... But not me. Yet.

I like the four ball to start the run. 8 ball is my favorite game. I get bored playing 9 ball or 10 ball. I think 8 ball can be hard or easy. I asked Jeremy Jones and Raphael Martinez what they thought was the hardest game. They both told obviously one pocket is hardest but 8 ball is the hardest out of 8 9 and 10. It has become my favorite game as well. My thinking is that ds8 ball is like a puzzle and one must solve that puzzle to win the game.
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen3 жыл бұрын
True that! I think rotation and one pocket are hardest but long 8ball sets can be also really cool. Mental puzzle condition plays a great part 👍🏼🔥😄

If you can tell us exactly where your hitting the cue ball on every shot for position that would help a lot! Great videos thanks!

Hey Niels. Big fan of yours. Love your videos. I learn a lot from them. Any chance you can do a video on spin? Particularly, I’ve noticed a lot of professional players sometimes adjust for spin before the shot and also during the shot as they stroke through the ball. What’s the proper way to do it?
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. On paper lining up with the tip you will use is textbook but also players that sweep in their final Stroke so they use extra feel to compensate 😄🤷♂️👍🏼
@murahk1233 жыл бұрын
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen ahhh I see. Why don’t they just adjust for spin before they hit the ball every time instead of having to alter it while they stroke through the ball? Isn’t that bad practice?

Always loved watching your videos. I've learned so much over this last year. However, today you got me really confused. In your first runout you picked a route that included a 14-11 combo after taking the 12, then 13 down the rail. I was thinking that after the 12, the next logical ball would be the 15, followed by 10-9 combo to shape on the 13. Any shape on that ball would have given you the finish on the 14 to the same pocket and then the 11 to either corner giving you shape on the 8. I realise you're the man in the competitions, and I'm the man sitting here learning, ergo, you know a whole lot more than I do. So my question is: did I miss something?

Playing 8 ball 🎱 makes me wanna play the 9 ball 😁 🎱 is great to expand your thinking, get some new ideas, but mentally challenging if you're fully focused.

Hi Tesha! 😀 Thanks for your message. Appreciate it! 👍 When you keep practicing and training your brain with patterns, you will be able to keep your concentrating going for longer and longer. So keep up the good work 🔥

Nice hearing about Rico Diks and Souquet being good at eight ball. I remember a commentator once telling a story of Souquet running 26 racks of eight ball in a row! Do you know if there is any truth to this, Niels? Thanks for making the pool world better! 💪

1:00:40. So here's what I see. Play 13, try to get straight in for the 9, if the 7 isn't impeding the straight line(can't see that angle from here obviously). If it doesn't work out you still have the 10 as a back up ball. If it does, than draw for 10(get straight-ish), follow for the 12, and depending on the angle you have a lot of room for the cue ball to land for the 11 between the 5 and the 6, either for corner or the side. By then the 8 is pretty much wide open.

@Niels The Terminator Feijen my pool teach, an APA 9 taught my this drill and after much difficulty, she got me to execute it! She videoed my crooked stroke from the front and I was horrified, but we did it in two hour lesson. I LEARNED a lot thanks to you!

Thanks for the video. Very informative. I noticed you position the cue under your right eye. Is this something you have always done or just something you worked out? I have gone back and forth having it under my dominant eye and directly under my chin and can’t decide which is more consistent. Your insight would be greatly appreciated
@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen3 жыл бұрын
I was born with a lazy left eye. It’s only 5% vision so my cue finds the dominant right eye automatically. 👍🏼😄
