Howard was BCS's Hank. A decent guy, who while not perfect, was genuinely just trying to do the right thing, and was ultimately killed because of our "Hero's" downward spiral. Of all the main characters, they were probably the two least deserving of their outcomes.
@MrRobot-jb5tl
@MrRobot-jb5tl Жыл бұрын
Howard was infinitely times better the man than Hank. He understood Jimmy's perspective of being belittled from the start, meanwhile Hank always belittled Walt at the beginning. Howard also still cared about Jimmy and Kim when Lalo showed up, he was very concerned for what was about to be happen to them. Hank on the other hand was obsessed on Walt/Heisenberg.
@woodsie8965
@woodsie8965 Жыл бұрын
@@MrRobot-jb5tl Well, to be fair, walt was both a meth dealer, and a murderer, and he was pretending to be a good guy to hank the whole time, so I can understand why he would hate walt more. @@Efro1632 I already kinda knew Andrea would die when I saw Todd at her front door. Jesse tried to escape Jacks gang and he got punished for it. Also in "Ozymandias" while Jesse is chained up to cook meth for Todd. He finds a picture of Andrea and her kid. The forshadowing was all there. Howards on the other hand came out of nowhere. I had a feeling he might have died from suicide since Kim and Jimmy just destroyed his career and life, but I never would have thought Lalo of all people would have killed him. Also I never had a sympathetic connection with Andrea's character. Her death was tragic, but I honestly I felt more bad for Jesse. While Howard was a relatable and sympathetic character. Sure he wasn't perfect and sometimes would come off as an ass, but he did his Job well and was an overall good person who had no criminal background. So for him to be killed in that way was all but tragic. Even more tragic than Hanks death from BB imo.

So much Sybolism and callbacks in this episode: - Howard hitting his head before hitting the ground just like Chuck - Howard and Chucks death ultimately being cause by indirect actions by both Jimmy and Kim. - Last Season, Lalo compared Jimmy to a cockroach...he sees a cockroach in the sewer and comes up with a plan for Jimmy... - Howard Twirling the Can, Lalo Twirling the Supressor - Howard explaining that Chuck Always twirled his cans just in case anything happened...insinuating that Jimmy always used to shake Chuck's cans to prank him - Mike in EP 4 said it was a 1000 to 1 chance that Lalo would come for Jimmy and Kim. Mike took all his guy off the Low Priority Targets, allowing Lalo to to meet with Jimmy and Kim unseen. Smaller details like: Earlier this episode...That intern Cary with the Soda cans...he says "i hope somebody says that about me someday" after Howard calls chuck "The greatest Legal Mind i ever Knew"...Howard replies to Cary "Well...maybe there are more important things"...Bc Howard knew that once that was taken away from Chuck...he killed himself. - Earlier in the Last scene...the Candle flickers when someone opens the door...it flickers again bc Lalo has entered the room. Its not even that big of a detail...its just such an interesting way to show tension and to give information tobthe audience. This show is so damn good

Legit a horror scene. I was so scared the first time watching this. The moment the candle first blew, I started panicking and then I realized "Oh thank goodness, it's only Howard." And then I realized "OH NO IT'S HOWARD, HOWARD PLEASE RUN" because I knew something was coming to that apartment. The whole time Howard was talking I kept my eye on that dark doorway behind him which was specifically placed in many of the shots of the scene to invoke that anxiety. The way this scene mirrored and bookended that scene in "Bad Choice Road" is just masterful.

Part of the brilliance of BCS is how appropriate some of the dialogue is in a way the character doesn't actually mean. Mike says 'the trap's set, Salamanca walks in, he goes down'. Exactly what happens. Jimmy and Kim 's plan, lalo walks in, Howard goes down. Reminds me at least of what Mike says at the beginning of the season - 'whatever happens next it won't go down the way you think'

This was an incredible reaction and discussion as always - worth the wait! Maybe even more so than Ozymandias, this is the most powerful, impactful hour of television I’ve witnessed. The way they pull you in, make you cheer for Jimmy and Kim despite their wickedness, only for their victory to inadvertently end Howard’s life. That was a gut punch. It felt for a moment like my heart stopped when it aired, and I stood speechless and motionless for quite some time afterwards. This is where things well and truly change for Jimmy and Kim. They’ve gotten someone killed. There is no more innocence. Looking forward to you all seeing how things wrap up from here.

But when Howard told them that no matter what they did to him, he would be okay, I had this rose-colored glasses moment where I could see Howard prevailing on his own during Breaking Bad.... and then that dream was crushed the second that candle flickered and I knew exactly what Howard's fate would be. The first time the candle flickered, I assumed a window was open and Lalo had climbed in and was already in the apartment, lurking in the bedroom or something. So I was really expecting it from a long ways away, before Howard entered the scene. I don't really get why opening the door would cause the candle flicker. There shouldn't really be that much air movement unless the hallway outside the door led to the outdoors somehow and a window was open in the apartment to cause a cross-flow of air. The physics of it doesn't make sense to me, as the pressure difference should be pretty non-existent, inside to inside. But whatever, it's an interesting way to shoot the scene.

It is strange how they seem to forget the scene that basically spells out the definition for Jimmy's character very simply--and if I remember correctly, they didn't seem to care that much about the "Wolves vs Sheep" scene back when they watched it originally, despite how important it was. I mean, it's telling that the only time we see Jimmy and Chuck's father is in that scene.

It's also implied that he grew up close to or in sketchy neighborhood's since he knew all their tricks. Like all well written "villains", Saul is a product of his environment. Surrounded by criminals in his youth, raised by lenient and gullible parents, saved from jail time by his brother and avoiding the consequences of his actions. It’s the perfect recipe to create a spoiled Adult with shaky morals.

Oh, stop, this BS, is exactly all what HE tells himself for his all life, and the cause of 99% of all his problems. Sure, in the turning point, after Chicago Sunroof incident, when Jimmy actually had a chance to start over and be good for himself, Chucks nihilism turnt Jimmy right back to his toxic self, essentially just a guy who learned that life isn't fare, so there's no point to take any responsibility for his own actions. Finale beautifully closing this arc as he finally stop running and trying to start over, and accepts all the consequences in pease.

Yes he was, he had the opportunity to change his life around a number of times, his decisions where just his, that's the point of the last episode, he took ownership of everything and stopped blaming everyone else around him, that's why there's the conversation with chuck saying there's no shame in changing your path if you don't like where you're headed. Yes, those flashbacks are shown as a way of understanding Jimmy a bit more and being more empathetic with his situation, but like Chuck said, he's not a bad person, he just can't help himself. Also there's the fact that him and Kim got horny everytime they scammed someone, he does it because he gets that rush, I get it not understanding the consequences of your actions or getting your morale warped and question when you're a kid in the context he and Kim where, BUT THEY KNEW, what they were doing was wrong and that alone is enough to know they were doing it for fun, the difference is that Kim actually decided to stop, Jimmy didn't, because he just can't help himself.

Yep and Rhea Seehorn's performance in the next two episodes and the final 2 is absolutely fantastic acting. The Bus Scene alone should win her an Emmy honestly.

I was in shock after this. It really cemented my hatred for Kim and Jimmy. They got him killed because they wanted to have fun. This episode, 6x8 and 6x9 are such a great trio of episodes. I got chills when the second candle blew, especially after seeing Howard talking about depression and his divorce.

I *had* to watch the full length of this because it was probably one of the best episodes in the Breaking Bad universe ever. that final scene is just writing, acting, cinematography, and directing brilliance. and just watching the plan play out just gave me full body cringe all over again. just perfection. thanks for another fantastic reaction guys! ❤

He wasn’t trying to get out before…he was just trying to get kim to leave so she wouldn’t be caught in the crossfire. She said to him ‘you went too far, but you’re not gonna do it again.’ He knew he was in it for the long haul. He didn’t respond. He was just trying to get her out before things got even worse, and that’s when kim freaked out and devised the scam to keep them together.

This stuck with me for days after I first saw it. I used to think Andrea was the worst death of the Gilliverse, but honestly we barely knew Andrea. Howard, on the other hand, we've gotten to know. We thought he was an ass at first, but he turned out to be covering for a friend. He has had to take shit from everyone, and every time he stands up for himself something tragic happens - first with Chuck, and now this. It was truly a senseless death and he deserved so much better. RIP Howard.😥🙏💔
