It appears as if What the Flick has abandoned its review on this show... after being graciously granted interviews by Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian. WHAT THE FLICK indeed.

The wonderfully dream-like and surreal moment when Kim was walking around looking at the models reminded me how much of a mystery Kim is within the show itself. She's one of the most likable and relatable characters but we don't know ANYTHING about her past as displayed in her job interview from Season 2.
@MariaVosa6 жыл бұрын
You are right - it's a criminal offense that Rhea Seehorn doesn't have an Emmy nomination by now - she should have a win!

I think something that is overlooked is that Kim could be feeling guilt for her part in Chuck's death too. She sided with Jimmy in all of this, she reaps the benefit of working for Mesa Verde. She helped drive Chuck to suicide w/ the trial. So on top of feeling overwhelmed (still barely recovering from the accident), she feels guilty and inadequate, like she stole mesa verde and cant help them as much as chuck could have and killed chuck for this.
@coreyhall60386 жыл бұрын
I don’t think the Mesa Verde scene was about Kim doubting herself, but realizing that she didn’t share the life dream of endlessly opening bank branches across the Southwest, and that her own talent and vision was grander or more vivid. She’s spent years busting her hump and playing by the rules to enrich dickheads like Chuck and Howard, and she at last feels empty when faced with the banality of Kevin’s passion project.

Corey Hall Interesting perspective.
@subversivelysurreal36456 жыл бұрын
Corey Hall : That was my take. I even chose the same word : Banality. What could be less interesting than an endless series of self-same banks? That’s franchise-level: DULL. I do think that Ben missed the dark comedy involved in a : Panorama of Bank Locale Models. It was clearly an embarrassment: but also drove home the banality of the enterprise. { Cue: Law & Order Theme Drop Here !! }
@coreyhall60386 жыл бұрын
Subversively Surreal well we clearly had the right take on that scene based on Kim’s searching for something more in the courtroom.
@oakleysierney19186 жыл бұрын
I think WTF's theory makes much more sense. Why did she become a lawyer if not to make a lot of money? If she really did it for passion she would have been something more along the lines of a defense attorney or prosecutor. I think they are right, it's self doubt.

How many different moments have been "the moment Saul Goodman was born" now? That's just like everybody highlighting the moment Walt "really broke bad". I thought the point of both shows is that it's a more gradual process, with something that's nearly always been inside the characters just taking over, step by step.
@oakleysierney19186 жыл бұрын
Exactly, there have been so many cons schemes and tricks done by him already so far, I could hardly remember them all.
@nobodyspecial6756 жыл бұрын
@@oakleysierney1918 Right. You could go all the way back to that "wolf or sheep" scene with the hustler in his dad's store. That seemed to be the moment he discovered his contempt for suckers, but who knows how much of Saul was already in him by that point?
@oakleysierney19186 жыл бұрын
Yea, he was probably swiping the other kids snacks in preschool. On the flip side one thing I'm wondering and trying to remember is, a lot of people in the comments keep complaining they are tired of Jimmy and want to see Saul, and I'm trying to recall from Breaking Bad what did Saul do that was so different that people are waiting for? In BCS we already saw him defending criminals and making crazy commercials. So the only different thing I can remember from Breaking Bad that is he helped drug dealers launder money.

Well said! That would've been my question as well, seeing as how Kim is far too ethical to have purposely forged Chuck's handwriting.
@Metaldjwill26 жыл бұрын
Not only that she was close enough to see what was on the page. My take is Jimmy was so "willy nilly" in reading it, the guilt of helping take Chuck down in court might have made her breakdown coupled with the fact Jimmy was a blank slate of emotions. Remember she DOESNT know that Chuck said to him point blank: "You never really mattered to me" THOSE were his last real words to Jimmy. that letter is an "afterthought" a "formality"

I agree with the point that this show does not hide things for us. It's not the kind of show with a big secret that is revealed at some point with the aim of blowing our mind or something. So no, Kim did not rewrite the letter.

I wonder if these hosts ever watched BB truly in detail? Their BCS review suggests not really or just not "hardcore" in talking about this prequel that is rich with characters from both worlds. The guy under the desk (Ira) was a callback to Vamanos Pest who Walt would later meet set up by Saul. granted his character may not register right away but c'mon.. "the dude from Billions??" How do you not grasp "Gale" right away?? a fairly important recognizable character from the BB world Hope these show reviews aren't weekly. Just happen to stumble across this link randomly. Other podcasts go in more longer detail anyway #WTFvanillaskimthrough

In the scene with the models, Kim becomes withdrawn and thoughtful when Kevin mentions North Platte (or was it East Platte) Nebraska--------Kim is from a small town on the Kansas/Nebraska border------for some reason she started thinking about her past and maybe her father--another reason, possibly, why she started to cry when Jimmy read the letter----losing a family member, something like that.
@kejsulli6 жыл бұрын
Theory: Jimmy didn't actually read the letter out loud, he improvised it for Kim's sake, but that's not what it says! I just rewatched it and I dunno... Knowing Jimmy, it's very, very likely! Plus he's putting on a big show of being emotionally detached and all also for Kim in this way... It doesn't look good! And down the rabbit hole we goooo.......ooo boy! :'-(

In the letter Chuck mentioned that Jimmy is working in the mail room, so that dates the letter as being from several years ago before Jimmy "went to law school" and so this was the moment in their lives Chuck was most proud of Jimmy, as he was happy with him working in the mail room, but was upset when he decided to become a lawyer

Because "a lot of people" are wrong does not make WTF right in this instance. Even some comments from others right here in the comments are correcting them for errors an expert should know. It's funny that they think the meetings between Jimmy and Mike are the core of the show. I think it's the worst part. They have two separate shows in one show but they manufacture a way to bring the two of them together so they can have a scene and then get back to their own shows within the show. Just skip it.
@joeterzio71756 жыл бұрын
Paraphrasing Alonso: "Other shows would drag things out." Really? It's into season 4 of this series and we're nowhere close to getting the eponymous main character. Talk about slow-walking something, there is no Saul Goodman and he's nowhere close to being a reality in this series. I mean, if someone had never watched Breaking Bad and just started watching this show, they would have no idea who the "Saul" in the title is! I don't care about Jimmy McGill anymore. I've had four seasons of Jimmy McGill and his sad-sack existence. Yes, the show has some great acting, but, and I've thought this for a while now, we're I believe that we're not going to get the birth of "Saul Goodman" until the series finale and I don't think that's how the show was sold to the network because it certainly wasn't sold to the audience that way.
@Carlos-ln8fd6 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's slower than Breaking Bad. In that show it took almost a whole season for Walter White to decide he wanted to be a drug dealer. There was also a lot of filler episodes.

@@Cornwall1888 I don't know, man. I think people misremember a lot of things from that show. A lot of it was just people eating breakfast and cooking montages. I do think Breaking Bad is a lot more youthful than BCS which might make it seem more light. You know BB had Jesse and his friends while BCS stars mostly older people (youngest one being Nacho who's like 35).

I thought What The Flick had given up on this show. I sort of have now, watched half of the first episode this season, and it's still just creeping along, I check reviews like these to see if anything has happened yet, but nah (have looked up Gales song though)... This show has been a real disappointment to me, the first season was Very Good indeed, and looked like it was going to step up to greatness, but seasons 2 and 3 just meandered and meandered... And most importantly seemed to lose any sense of humour, which was a big attraction of Saul in the first place. It seems to promise much at the start of each season, but just doesn't deliver. 'Ohhh, here's another character from Breaking Bad'... But they don't do anything much interesting.... Has great acting, sometimes beautiful cinematography, but No Story, and No humour.
