I use the Differin on my face, combined with their moisturizer PLUS the Lancome gel moisturizer (the green bottle). I have combo-oily but since I cross the 40 y/o mark I've been noticing more dry patches on my face so, I feel that this combo is working on my face. Also, for the ones who deal with ingrowing hairs and/or hydradenitis supurativa (me-both) on your bikini area; Differing gel is wonderful for that. I haven't "flared" in that area since I started using it. I apply it every night on my bikini area.

Hiya Doc ! I just found your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching from the beginning. I really enjoy the content you provide. You are very knowledgable and I love your down to earth personality. I am a 42-year-old female with pretty good skin. I am very fair skinned and I love how you end each video with " sun screen and subscribe " . I bought the Differin together with the Differin moisturizer and am starting it very similar to how you did. I found the Differin moisturizer very similar to the Neutrogena one that you use. Thank you for providing that guidance with your vlog. I am mainly using it as a preventative for mild hormonal acne and anti-aging. Also, as soon as I started watching you, I stopped scrubbing my face as though I was sanding and old piece of wood an in just one week my skin is so much happier that it is not being assaulted twice a day :-) Thank you so much for all the time you commit to this channel. I love it and cannot believe you do not have a ton more subscribers ! I will sunscreen and share ! Take care and God Bless.

Thank you for the Differin update. Your skin is looks great, dewy and translucent, I never knew you had suffered from acne breakouts. I'm going on two months of Differin now. I had very mild dryness at first but upped my moisturizer game and that was that. I'm noticing my skin feels a bit softer and smoother and maybe, just maybe those worry lines are starting to blur a little bit. Im using Differin for anti-aging but I do have one stubborn sebaceous cyst that appears less prominent but I doubt it will completely go away. My esthetician expresses it periodically but it fills up again in a month. I saw plastics but the surgeon didn't want to operate unless it becomes infected. He said my skin in that area is in poor condition, so the scar will be worse than the cyst. Ah well. That's what concealer is for!

YES YES YES !!!!! I enjoyed your video. You just brighten up any day. Going into a gas station reporting bad apples and coffee. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha You are right when something is not right speak up. It is just the way you say it and the look on your face. You are so enjoyable. Glad you mentioned that medical grade skin care and botanicals are not all good. So true. Because Differins is for acne I would suspect it would not be a choice of retin A if one has dry skin. However in this video you mentioned they have added a moisturizer to go with it. Would that moisturizer counteract the drying effect of the differins? Or make it a viable solution for using differins for the retin A effect for dry skin users.
@DrDrayzday
@DrDrayzday 7 жыл бұрын
Aww thanks so much Bev! Love that place! Both differin (adapalene) and retin A (tretinoin) have irritation as the most common side effect and this is most commonly encountered in the first 3-4 weeks. It occurs to a greater degree with tretinoin than adapalene, however, moisturizers are an important part of using either one, and can cut down on irritation (which leaves the skin appearing dry and "peely"). I'm sure the galderma "differin" moisturizer would help...its just plain moisturizer i believe. HOpe that helps answer your question. Have a great night!

Hi Andrea. Thank you for the info on the biopsy for gluten. Had no idea. Seeing my dermatologist in April will mention this to her. Do they hurt ( biopsy) 😰 Big baby here😱 My oldest son had a biopsy to a mole on his face. Came back suspicious. Went in for a one day surgery where they removed the entire mole. Told me the biopsy didn't hurt, I think I'll take your word on that . By the way I did the toilet bowl brush trick this weekend. . Thank your Mom again. I purchase a set of light pucks (6 in the package) at Costco, the cool thing is that it came with a remote. Turn all pucks on and off at once. Also thanks for the updated skin care routine. I would have never thought to put the sunscreen on my lips. Awesome tip. Love sharing knowledge no matter how minor. Happy week🥗🍠🥑🥝🍌🍯🍫

Shout out to your question about the biopsy on today's vlog (2.21.17), so let me know your thoughts if you get a chance to check it out. Short answer..no, but of course everyone is different. Sometimes i prefer to word it as "a sample of skin" because biopsy sounds really invasive & scary...it understandably freaks people out like you are going to do a spinal tap. Love the toilet bowl trick! Hope that helps and that you are having a good night!

I know...its a falsehood that is propagated over and over again. The fact of the matter is that many drugs and medicines are derived from natural ingredients...like aspirin comes from willow bark for example. That lunch looks spectacular - and would cost a fortune at a takeout restaurant. Good on you for making your own. Question - when applying a moisturizer right after the differin, does this dilute the differin and so lessen the benefit? It seems like if the layering is done immediately after - it is not much different than mixing the two products in your hand and then applying them. I have been waiting a few minutes between applying actives and a moisturizer for this reason. Am I being OCD about this? - which is typical for me in so many things.
@DrDrayzday
@DrDrayzday 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No, it doesn't. I would wait a few minutes, so as to avoid accidently sweeping up into the skin around the eyes, but it does not "dilute" out the retinoid if you choose to use it afterwards. At least that is what I was taught...I don't know how they figured it out, and personally i think my way of applying shortly after moisturizing is best as it putting the retinoid on hydrated skin makes more sense to me. There is no consensus. The key is to use the retinoid consistently, at least a few night a week, the order is less important. Hope that helps clarify and that you are having a great night!

Code Silver!! Look forward to each of your refreshingly funny and informative "day in the life" blogs! I have a question regarding sunscreen since you are covering this subject. According to this Goop recipe, you can make your own sunscreen. It seems waxy and hard to spread though. Thoughts on this?Makes a SPF 20-25 creamMelt these:1/4c shea butter1/4c coconut oil (a natural preservative)1/4c beeswax2 tbs jojoba oil (for nurturing)1 tbs vitamin E (a natural preservative)Add and mix this off heat:2 tbs Zinc oxide powder (cover nose) • buy non nano zinc because nano form isn't good for your health.Refrigerate until solidAdd:Red raspberry seed oil (natural sunscreen)20 drops carrot seed (natural sunscreen)1 tsp Vanilla extract Sent from my iPhone
@DrDrayzday
@DrDrayzday 7 жыл бұрын
Goop is wrong. I would not do this. Sunscreens undergo controlled testing to demonstrate that they are broad spectrum using minimal erythema dosing. To try and diy this is a waste of money and not accurate.

Thanks for the update on Differin. I've been using it for three weeks since I watched your video. So far so good :) I always wonder since I have dry skin, how come I can have moderate acne problems? Sebaceous overproduction exists with oily skin, so if there's no excessive sebum, how do pores get easily clogged and pustules formed? Thank you and have a great week!
@DrDrayzday
@DrDrayzday 7 жыл бұрын
great question! The pathogenesis of acne also involves an issue with keratinocytes lining the follicle. Their differentiation rate is a bit uncoordinated I guess you could say, and they plug up the follicle. Oil outflow is blocked, and P. acne (bacteria that naturally live in the follicle) proliferate and break down some of the components of the back up oil and these break down products attract inflammatory cells that lead to a pustule. Retinoids, like differin are helpful because they normalize keratinocytes differentiation. Hope that helps!

Very informative! No wonder I have positive results from adapalene :) BTW I did see the Galderma's Moisturizer when I picked up my adapalene, but upon reading the ingredient list, I found avocado oil and dimethicone. Looks concerning and comedogenic to me, so naturally it was left on the shelf. My Ninja blender arrives Tuesday and I'm so excited to finally make my veggie burger. Thanks so much for the tip! Hopefully it will be a success :)

Hi Dr. Dray! I am really wanting to try out the PanOxyl Benzoyl Peroxide face wash however I use Retin-A 0.025% Gel and have heard that using benzoyl peroxide and retin-a in the same skincare routine can cancel each other out.. I am just wondering if I could use the PanOxyl as a nighttime face wash followed by the Retin-A about 30 minutes later because the benzoyl peroxide is being washed off as a face cleanser versus a actual lotion you apply to the skin. Thanks! I lovee your channel!! :)

It's been great at keep my acne away but I've been wanting to come off of it because my skin is so dull, lines around my mouth seem deeper (I'm 22), and I've read that BP can accelerate aging by producing free radicals. He started using a week ago. Seemed to help with quarter size on on forehead. But new one on nose few days later. Will Differin help with this? I am afraid it will make it worst. Not asking you to purchase and try, but possibly give us your thoughts on the ingredients? I wouldn't rely on foundation/makeup alone for sunscreen. As i said in "my skin care routine" vlog 2.19.17, you should apply sunscreen to your neck, ears, and lips. You probably aren't going to be doing that with a cc cream or foundation. That being said, the cc cream is great, and I have used it in the past in place of eltaMD tinted sunscreen...but just as I showed on 2.19.17, after first applying regular sunscreen.

another question, do you think acne can form as a result of stripping your skin of it's natural oils? I have read a little bit about how disturbing your skins natural environment can lead to problems. I have also read a little bit about the skin's bio film and how it might play a role in combating bad bacteria (kind of like acting as a shield). I am considering going to school to become a dermatologist and this is all very interesting to me bc I suffer with acne.

TheNeddlove zinc is the only supplement with good data to show efficacy for acne. Also, supplements are not regulated by the FDA so I wouldn't wast money on l-lysine. Eat a healthy balanced diet, and avoid skim milk and fat free dairy (low fat and full fat seems to be fine) as these also have been linked to recalcitrant acne. Hope that helps

I also limit my consumption of dairy to cheese and tend to stay away from milk due to how much natural sugar it contains. Listening to your videos is inspiring and is making me really want to go to school for this.. it's just a little embarrassing to have acne when what i want to study is dermatology haha.

btw, i didn't know that you need to put moisturizer on your face while it's still wet so that's very helpful. I have been using a 98% aloe gel lately and have had no bad reactions. should i mix it with some vegetable glycerin to lock in the moisture, or do you recommend a different humectant?

Hi Dr Dray, i just subscribed love your video, I was thinking of purchasing this gel for my teenage son he has moderate acne, i did purchase X Out by proactive, but I don't think it's working that great, and i can tell my son's self esteem is down, plus what is good to fade the after dark spots left from the healed acne?

Thank you so much and so glad you are enjoying. Self esteem is majorly impacted by acne, for sure! A dermatologist or primary provider can help for sure...no need to let this go unmanaged. As far as dark spots...SUNSCREEN is key for allowing them to heal/improve and prevent further discoloration.

Smilee I am also a new subscriber to Dr. Dray, because I was searching for video reviews and/or before & after videos for people who've used the differin gel. I just purchased it at cvs (I had never seen or heard of it til the display i saw today), and my daughter will be turning 13 here in Sept and the last 6-9months she's started showing some skin issues on her face and i can tell she's getting bothered by it. She uses Cetaphil cleansing face wash and sometimes uses the Cetaphil antibacterial bar face wash but they don't do much. If you haven't already, you may want to Google reviews for this product because there were multiples that said it even helped with dark spots and scarring. Obviously I'm not a doctor or Dermatologist, so that's why I suggest you read those reviews yourself and get "real life experiences." Good luck... I'm on this journey with you!

Hi! Great question, and I recommend it is best to see your dermatologist or health care provider to make sure things are going the right way for you. Acne can be treated effectively and there is no need to battle with it alone. Hope you are having a great night!

LOL...LOL...ok, city girl, now that you're a Texan, let me give you a brief primer: "free range" are chickens. And yes, those are "grass fed cows" as opposed to "feed lot" cows. You are really cute.
