I take the Speedmaster over a Daytona any day. But that is me and tastes are different. My Speedy went everywhere with me. I wore it as a work tool in my job in the Andes of Peru, in the deserts and in the jungle of the Congo. It never let me down and I do not use my watches for speculation in a sealed plastic bag. It is the watch I recommend to anyone that wants to buy his first "real" watch.

@@WatchAdvisor After this video I begin to like the new model. I wasn't convinced about the new bracelet. It is an improvement upon the previous but I would preferred it to be 3 linked instead of 5 ( like the speedmaster's 2 for example). Maybe they should have paired the hesalite model with a 3 linked bracelet, since they chose to have the two version with more obvious differences. Also I'd love to see a two tone version with steel and moonshine gold case and bracelet. Would be a cool watch!

I like the changes, I thinks it’s a better Moon Watch. I think the price rise is a bit of a stretch. Forget Rolex, the Sapphire sandwich model is now squarely in the same ball park price wise as column wheel chronos with automatic movements from brands of the same level. Navitimers and other B01 chronos along with El Primeros are looking better value at the price now. This is still a great watch. But what has always been cool about it was how good value it was compared to the other iconic chronos I just mentioned. The value is gone to some extent now. Doesn’t make it a bad watch at all, it looks great.
@WatchAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
IMHO the price rise is fair! The quality you get for the money is unparalleled ...
@TheRunningManZ3 жыл бұрын
@@WatchAdvisor I wonder if it will be the same after Zenith announce their new El Primero tomorrow? I'm not saying you're wrong but I think you are. He he, sorry I love your vids and of course I very much respect your view. Just take the Navitimer on a bracelet, Omega with the same Sapphire case back are now within 10% of it on price (lets face it the Navi has been around a while I bet you could get one for the same price as a Moon Watch brand new and from a dealer right now). The Navitimer has a load of history is just as horologically significant and it also has.... - AN ADJUSTABLE CLASP (what no way???) ;) - A tool watch, calculation bezel - Applied markers - A few different dials (sunburst blue etc) - Date complication (quick set) - Vertical clutch - Colum wheel - Automatic movement (some people may want manual of course) - 70hrs power reserve - Ok it's not as anti magnetic as the Omega but unless you plan on putting through an MRI it more than fine around electronics, phone case magnets, speakers etc. I just don't see how what you get for the money is unparalleled on the Omega any more. The BO1 is one hell of a movement and the Breitling is looking a good buy in a store against the Omega even with no discount. I still like the Omega, but it used to be a no brainer of a choice. It isn't so much now. What we also haven't mentioned is that since 2018 the old Moonwatch has had some very big price rises. In early 2018 you could get a brand new Hesalite one for £3200 to £3300. Now this new one is what £5250? Omega have cooked the price in the last two years and now tweaked if for the better and over cooked it for me personally. I still like the watch, and I could still see myself buying one. But it would be a much harder choice now as its in the relm of "better" movement watches from Breitling and Zenith.

@@WatchAdvisor I personally love the technical improvements from Omega. It is like you said, they updated everything about the movement which needed modernization (METAS certification, co axial escapement, anti magnetic etc) and kept everything which did not need to be changed (still the aluminum bezel, case design etc). I enjoy the small details such as Dot over 90, and the new step dial homage. It is truly an excellent Speedmaster update from Omega. Personally, I am torn between choosing this new 2021 Speedmaster Hesalite version or to go for a birth year 3592.50 in excellent condition. Wonderful review Alexander! Thank you for this masterpiece. And I must say I really like the new iteration of the Speedy. It is and will always be a legendary watch. IMHO it is a bit pricey, while the other chronograph from the "other" brand is just totally overhyped (not to mention overpriced) But customers seem to be willing to pay such prices (and way more). Yes, I think there are other chronographs more affordable with similar specs or functions. For example, the now discontinued Fortis Official Cosmonaut Chronograph especially the Titanium version. Yes, it's bulkier and not as classy as the Speedy but it packs a punch. It uses a reliable 7750 that can be serviced by most watchmakers. It features a day-date function and a diver style bezel. Both functions to me personally are way more useful than a tachymeter and the accuracy of a Metas certification. What I really like about the Speedy Pro: One can still see that same watch in it, that was used for the Apollo missions. There are not many watches today that stay so true to their original. Good thing that the did stick to an aluminium bezel. I think it would be really cool if Omega would offer a "Hesalite Sandwich" again. What do you think about that? And what do you think about the old "Hesalite Sandwich"?
@WatchAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing and your feedback! Interesting read! I don’t agree with you concerning the priorities... METAS certification is much more important IMHO! The latter defines another league of mechanical wristwatches ... concerning the sandwich I always bought and I will always buy hesalite with closed case back... that’s for me the definition of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch...

The most Complete review about the Speedy... Great job!!! I got mine less than a week ago (Sapphire version) and it is a total beauty... Just found your channel - thanks for the meticulous detail without being repetitive. Have a question another post you said you think the prior version will rise in price. Why is that? @WatchAdvisor3 жыл бұрын
The now “old” version of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is considered the one being powered by either the calibre 861 or 1861... This concludes an era of mythical chronographs. A new era just started. Since the chronograph can no longer be bought officially, Omega started its fade-out, the demand for it will remain. This will increase its desirability and let the prices for the “old” rise... If you don’t own a Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch yet and you can still get an “old” one at an Omega AD buy it... You will not regret it. The 3861 powered version will stay in the collections for decades now and you have plenty of time to buy it later... 😉

What a review! Thank you for posting. I've always been a Speedy admirer but alas, not a wearer. The watch was always just too bulky & uncomfortable. I started checking out the FOIS thinking it would be better suited but it wasn't. The lugs don't come down far enough so the watch tends to sit on its case back with a noticeable gap between the lugs & wrist. Not cool. I then realised the new 3861 was a serious proposition. Thinner overall, shorter lug length, lower lug profile, flush end-pieces with the much improved & more comfortable bracelet. All these changes add up to what must be the most wearable Speedy to date. That's leaving aside the myriad of detail changes & improvements...all of which knock it out of the park imo. And at last, a reliably accurate movement with proper hacking! From where I sit, the new Speedy 3861 is a bargain. You can bemoan the price, but all the good swiss watches have rocketed in price & value in the last few years...it was inevitable this would also happen to the Speedmaster. Omega have really done a fantastic job here. They obviously really thought it through and I'm certain time will prove them right. I predict there will be many 1st time owners like me buying this watch, then those who already own a Speedy, now have have a perfect upgrade available whenever they choose...their only criticism seems to be price (& lack of accessories). So...I ordered the new 3861 heselite in all steel. It arrived this morning & is quite superb. The fit is perfect, is one of the most comfortable watches I own and the looks are simply stunning! I grew up in the 60's & the heselite version looks just how I remember them...more so than the 1861. I also love the all-brushed bracelet finish and maybe the only guy who prefers the printed logo :) Criticisms? Only one so far. The sharp Case nonsense is just that...nonsense. But I've found the inside of the clasp is too sharp & does lightly scrape the skin when sliding the watch up the wrist. Btw, no discount but 48 months interest free credit (with a free Wolf Cub winder thrown in)...4 years of free money is a real sweetner.
