My first factory job was sanding doors at Kraftmaid Cabinetry, we used dewalt sanders. I will never pick up another dewalt because they vibrated so bad after a few days use. This Bosch looks like it’s coming home with me soon though. Just like that Hercules dust extractor I bought right after watching your review.

THANK you for this video, as well as all of your others on handheld sanders. I've been using a Dewalt 5" (my first RO sander) for a couple of years and desperately want something more. I was just about to give the Festtool 150 sander a real look, but this video saved me a few hundred dollars!!! Thank you again, for these videos, and all of your others.

This is a modernized version of the excellent Bosch 1250 DEVS which is a ridiculously powerful sander. My only knock on the Bosch sanders like these? Running them one handed is very tiring but Ive never run the Festool Rotex so I cant compare it to the Bosch. Ive found it to be very good for fast material removal but still good enough to do fine sanding on solid wood.

It feels well balanced using it one handed sanding walls, but you're right in my experience as well, using it one handed sanding slabs tires the arm out quick.

I was unsure of making the leap yo the bosh vs my cheap handhelds but over the year or so i find myself reaching for it over any other. You can get swirls vs a finish sander but with careful use or a finish pass with a finer sander it has not been an issue, especially considering the time savings.

I have owned this sander for 4 years now. It is unbelievable I use it all the time. In fact its my go to sander. just a bit over a year of owning it. I had a static charge through my hose and it was shocking me, so much so that it killed up the sander. It stopped working. even though it was out of Warranty Bosch still honored their warranty. They fixed the sander and I have not had a problem with it since. Just make sure you are using an anti static hose with it. YOu wont regret buying it.

Sander was the first power tool I upgraded and chose the 5in version of this bosch. This has changed the sanding game for me. Turbo mode has removed any need for belt sander and regular mode product excellent finish on the wood. Turbo model is really a beast and you need to hold it well and I am glad for the attached tube to hold it like an angle grinder. This coupled with 3M sandpaper is all what anyone need for any sanding job (may be add milwaukee m12 detail sander). I was surprised at that time that not many people in US are using this. Bad marketing from Bosch! Currently using it with a shop vac which still produces great dust collection but looking to upgrade to hercules dust extractor. Great review!

Same experience, any big job I go straight to this sander. When I was researching an alternative to the expensive festool, I only found 2 or 3 youtube videos on this sander and bought it early 2021 when stock finally showed up during the whole supply chain nonsense. I haven't touched my smaller belt sanders since, I even only used my 4 x 24 Makita belt sander once on a table with seriously offset expansions. Even after all these years I've never seen anyone else with this sander, it's still so rare I even had to order the protector pads from the UK since I can't find them in Canada.

Kudos to Bosch for making a high quality sander. I've been debating the Rotex for a while, but I think the Bosch will be my choice for sure. I can always make a "systainter" for it using Packout/Techstack/whatever and some shadow foam or 3d print some custom pieces for the storage box. Regardless, $300 for the Systainer is just too much. Thanks for making this video, Matt! Great information, well presented. Very high quality audio and video.

I have the Bosch sander GET 75-150 and I am very satisfied. But I have it with a Bosch plastic container with molded interior. Also perhaps worth using a sacrificial paper between the sand paper and the pad. To save the pad. Bosch sells them separately. Better to invest in different pads for different surfaces then to replace the same pad.

I was comparing the Rotex to the Bosch before I purchased the Bosch. It's been a great sander for sure. One other difference between these two is the Rotex has tool-less sanding pad change. You can find both of the sanders reconditioned online cheaper than the new price and they come with a 1 year warranty.

I handled them both at my local store today. I didn’t get to use them, but I will say that the Bosch feels way heavier and more awkward than the Festool. $300 heavier and more awkward? Maybe not. But the Festool ergonomics on both the 5” and 6” models were night and day for my hands. I was ready to buy the Bosch, and chickened out. I like the feel of the Festool so much better.

Bought this in 2020 and have used the crap out of it, even used it for sanding half the walls of an apt before painting. I originally wanted the festool but could not justify the price at all, so I did my research and found the Bosch. Gets really warm after 2 hours of constant sanding but always held up. I would definitely buy it again, it's an amazing sander.

Excellent video. I'd just searched for it to refresh my memory about it. Slightly surprised you've found it so recently. But your reviews are always worth watching. Adding a soft and hard pad is expensive and, of course, it comes in a cardboard box. It is very good. There are two versions, one 6" = 150mm 750 Watts; one 5" = 125mm 500 Watts with different pattern sizes - you got to the smaller version at the end - it does perform different with a smaller pattern for finer work. Agreed about the DeWalt as a good enough cheaper sander and I've had pretty good fine work from mine over many years. Certainly better than my Makita equivalent.

I've never used the Bosch (although I do have many other Bosch tools including the Glide miter saw which is a great saw), but run a fabrication shop where we use every model of Festool sander. Of all the minor differences between these two sanders, what to a professional shop would be the big issue is that 10 year parts guarantee. Our company runs a total of 12 compound miter saws for field work and I do the maintenance on the saws. Most are DeWalt saws and I have had to retire about 5 saws over the last year because of critical parts no longer being available. When you have a good tool that needs repair and cannot get it back in service because the manufacturer decided to change the model after a couple years, and the parts can't be found, it is extremely frustrating. So for my personal use, if I needed a sander like the Rotex, I'd probably get the Bosch instead to save the money. But if you plan to use the tool often and for many years, that ten year parts guarantee is a significant consideration.

After struggling with budget 5” sanders was looking to upgrade to a professional sander but Mirka & Festool were at the top end of my budget. After seeing some reviews of the Bosch GET 150 I bought one. Dare I say almost makes sanding pleasurable, but I’m coming off a low base. In Australia the Bosch comes in a plastic box like the Festool & is half the price at around AUD$700. Early days for me but cannot speak too highly of the Bosch product.

Hey Matt, I would just like to add that Bosch makes a sander that rivals the ETS 150/5, its the Bosch GEX34-6N that comes in at approx. $259 on HD if you were curious about doing a comparison. I actually have the Bosch sander and really like it. I would love the have the festool but this sander is quite nice for the price point in my opinion. The biggest difference between the two that is blatant is the size, festool has a much slimline design. Anyways thanks for your time love your channel. God Bless

I used a Festool Rotex at a friends house and it is a beast in its aggressive mode. What is tried was a death grip on it in that mode and that was wrong. A light hold on the rotex was the best. I was impressed with the Festool Rotex. However recently I replaced the sanding pad on the friends Rotex and it was $85.00 on Amazon so not cheap. It was the festool brand but nothing from Festool is cheap. I have the Dewalt 5" and it is a great router but dust collection leaves some to be desired.

I used the 6” Bosh sander to sand Baltic Birch plywood and I’m not impressed with the dust collection. There is still a lot of dust left on the surface. A number of Festool power tool products are built in collaboration with or completely by other German companies. German corporations don't have the same kind of cut-throat zero-sum competition that many other countries' corporations have with one another, even in the same field. For example, 80% of the Vecturo OS 18 is made by Fein in their own factory as part of the MultiMaster AMM700 production line and then shipped to Festool for the back half shell and battery interface. Festool then makes their very cool and useful tool-less attachments like the depth stop and plunge cut accessories for it, brands it as their own and sells it at double the price of the MultiMaster AMM700. Festool and Mafell's routers are a cross collaboration as well (but this time Festool licensing it to Mafell). Several other tools in their lineup also have only partial Festool input, mostly to make them compatible with their dust collection and battery systems and accessories and packaging and such. Given the similarities between this Bosch and Festool sander, it is not unlikely that there is some behind the scenes licensing and collaboration between the two companies in various aspects of these tools. Their motors internally are nearly identical and mostly Chinese/Taiwanese sourced as well.

Ok rumor has it (over seas) that the Festool was actually designed off Bosch's original platform for this sander. I have owned one of these for about 8 years and totally abused it and I can't kill it!! Just replace the hook & loop pad , which Bosch has recently upgraded so I doubt they'll stop making it, and keep going. As you said just make sure you've done your arm and shoulder exercises because in turbo mode it demands you keep up with it especially with rough grit sandpaper. Amazingly, as you mentioned, in the non-tubo mode it is a very good finishing sander with dust collection on par with the Festool, it's just kind of large but I have other Bosch finishing sanders which are great, so no worries.

You just found the Bosch GET75-6N sander? It's been on the market at least for 5 years. I bought one 3 years ago and love it. I mostly use it for quick stripping of wood finishes but it works great for leveling out glue ups too big for my planer. You'll want the hard pad to reduce dips you can create easily in hardwood because it is very aggressive. Another tool as good or better than Festool at half the price. Bosch's 12" miter saw is another tool as good or better than Festool's miter saw that's a lot cheaper to buy. Now Bosch should make a Mirka type orbital sander for $300.

I buy a lot of tools from Harbor Freight (ones that I don't need "precision" work or that I don't use often enough to justify the expense of buying non-Chinese tools). I prefaced my post with that statement so it's clear that I don't own all Festool tools. I own some yellow tools, a lot or red tools, a Bosch drill press, a few Hitachi (Matabo) tools, and two Festool tools (track saw and domino cutter). I am not preferential to any one brand. I went with Festool's track saw even though it is almost identical in specs to the Milwaukee (and I own a lot of M18 batteries), because it is made in Germany. It's not the German part, but the "not outsourced to China" part that I liked. (remember, I like Milwaukee). I like the look of the Bosch sander here, but a tool that Grainger's site says "Made in Hungary, but subject to change", and Google AI says that Bosch's tools are made in a half dozen different countries makes me go, "have to pass". It is now 1/13/25, and the Bosch is 330.00, and the Festool is 675.00. The 10 year parts guarantee plus the quality from Germany makes this an easy decision for me. I realize that not everyone will put the same checks in the same boxes, so my comment is merely sharing my opinion.

It's a monster, I use it with *cubitron II discs and it eats trhough wood. It leaves a really good finish too. Love it, really recommend it. If you want to bring something really new, take a look at the new Mirka Deros RS 600. It's a direct drive (like the bosch in turbo mode) brushless sander. It should be the 1st one (direct drive) with a brushless motor. This and the new Dexos 1217 - brushless vacuum. *3m Cubitron 2 papers shouldn't be used with a rotary sander. Don't know why.. it's just stated on the box they come in. I use them anyway but be sure to use a protector pad

I don't know about the Festool but I have had the Bosch and it's a beast, or as gentle as you need it. It turbo mode, no kidding, hold on. But in lower revolutions, almost imperceptible vibration. I still think the step down Bosch is the best sander ever, with NO vibrations, and probably a better all-around, but this one is incredible, especially if you have larger projects. Usually I use this one for the rougher papers, and then switch to thinner using either a big box sander, or the Bosch 18V, which is also exceptional in every way.

Makita also has a gear driven 6" sander at a similar price point that might be worth looking at.

Bro, you are correct. We have been using these for almost 10 years for my money those things smoke Festool… they have a better grinding application than festool does… we stopped using Festool for salad surface applications. Once this sander came out there is literally no comparison.

12:00 Bosch got their own sustainer, called L-Boxx, but you have to pay for the set with the L-Boxx. If you have very little space like I have, I love it that I can choose not to take the sustainer and reduce the cost that way. I use the Bosch GET75-6 (75-150 in germany, for 150mm) as the cheaper Rotex for lager pieces. I just got sanding papers up till 180 in 6'' and do the finish and all smaller pieces with my 5'' Festool (best sander IMO). All in all maybe one of the best combinations you can buy right now, if you don't want to go all in on Festool. EDIT: The big difference, aside from the diameter, is the power of the 5'' version from Bosch. 550 watts vs 750 watts, which is a huge difference in gear mode with a bit too much preassure.

Its easy to find a 6" / 2.5mm stroke but not in the 5" pad. I have the Mirka Ceros 6"/ 5.0mm and it is nice, but today its like $250 more than it was about 8 years ago. Its basically over $600.00 now. SOOOO I tried that Maxx Xt .. lol and for the low money, it was good, but the backing pad was still 6" even though it was a 2.5mm. The dust extraction was terrible however. I looked down in there when I finally got the hose off and it had an actual opening no more than a half crecent circle of a dime. The hose it came was as flexible as a stick. Id have kept it if it had the 5" pad. Could have modified the hose but the opening was VERY small. But hey it was like 150 so cant expect much. BUT my point is there really isnt an option for a 5 disc with the small 2.5mm stroke.

You should do a review on the MaxXT sander. I have one, and it is ridiculous for what it costs. I don't think there is another sander under $300 that even comes close and I feel no need to upgrade.

Just like their previous Rolex copy from ages ago, the Bosch dual action sander uses plastic gears. As do the old and new Makita versions. Hence why we still buy the 6” Festool and also hence why they charge what they want.
