Hello everyone! Here is another set sent to us by Lightwish, the Madisi Nano Watercolors. Our set is 24 pans. The pans are similar to the Kuretake Gansai tambi pans, they're huge, and I think it is the biggest advantage of this set,.. aside from free 6 round brushes that come with it.

Ahww. Thank you so much. This is one of the best compliments I've received as an artist. 😊🙏 Years ago, I used to apply louder music, but i listened to the majority of my subscribers and opted to making the videos more relaxing.😊

I think Lightwish is a by Paul Rubens brand? But not sure. In any case, they do look like they're pretty good. For now, I'll stick with the Gansi Tambi Art Nouveau set I just got from Amazon. But I'll keep these in mind. Thanks for this review...I really like the way you do your reviews. p.s. For anyone wanting a set of Japanese style wcs, the 6 brushes they throw in make it a very good deal.

Lightwish is a company that commercially distributes some brands like Paul Rubens and Marie's. I believe Madisi is the more specific brand of this set I've just reviewed. I really think the color selection at the Wrt Nouveau set is interesting. Enjoy your set well. ☺️ and I agree, the 6 brushes are really a great addition to this set.

you are my favorite watercolor reviewer! i love the way you tell details about the colors the little painting done with them showcases your talent and knowledge of painting AND the comparison of the product against all the other types of watercolor brands and that the brands are grouped from cheapest to best. have you done da vinci water colors yet? --they are made in southern california

Thank you so much, Susan for appreciating my work. 🙏😊 yes, i have tried DaVinci, and I love them. I had 24 tubes then, but i consumed them even before i was able to make a review. It very long time ago. Gladly, Denise Soden sent mr samples of her DaVinci Ebrace Opacity set, and I loved it and made a review of it. I uploaded it in March 2023. 😊

Great review, Allan. I love the unique and thorough way you progress through each stage, and the different stages are brilliant. I have not seen anyone provide the kind of side-by-side comparison that you do with so many different brands. My only suggestion, would be to add just a bit more commentary when you get to the most popular brands (for instance, at the end with nearly all of the semi-pro and pro brands). I realize you are wanting to keep the pace up, but it is SO helpful to hear a few more detailed comments/comparisons. So well done...thank you!

Thank youuu. And yes, you are right. I would really like to make the videos atleast shorter than 30mins. 5yrs ago my reviews were longer and my comparisons were more detailed.. but some viewers asked me to shorten the videos and also as time went by more and more swatches arrived. So if you could notice, i only spoke and compared more on the sets that are on almost the same level..but let's see.. i will try to add bit more in my next reviews. I'll just have to practice talking faster. Haha. English is not my main language so it can be challenging. 🤣

Yeah. Haha. There was an ant there. Apparently, there's an anthill at a vacant lot close to our house. And there's always lots of insects no matter how we fumigate and clean.

It may very well be a glue binder, since that is traditional for gansai. Of course gansai are supposed to be more opaque and behave differently than western watercolor, but you really did have some strange swatches on your Kuretake! I will have to watch that one now.
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 2 ай бұрын
The Kuretake and the other swatches got attacked by ants. These paints provably didn't have any strong chemicals, making them attractive to insects Sadly, it was too late when I discovered what caused these damaged swatches. I would have to repair them.

Hullo, I just wanted to say that if you are hanging your watercolor art on the walls of your home, spend a little more on UV protective glass. Some artists use a UV spray or You might buy museum glass, but if you want to protect your paintings for generations use quality framing products.

Hi Alan. The Cobalt and the Cerulean are supposed to be opaque. Now the Gansai Tambi colours (and probably their imitations) are not made with gum Arabic but with some kind of glue, that's the Japanese recipe of making watercolors. This makes the colors literally stick on the paper but it also creates some serious mixing problems. When you mix such kind of colors you get muddy results. The trick with the paper towel as I have mentioned on other comments on your channel, shows only how much binder the paint contains and not if it contains chalk. What makes the pigment stick to the paper is the binder even if that pigment is loaded with chalk. Good quality gouache paint sticks on the paper although gouache is full of chalk in order to give opaque and mat final results. The pigment left on your paper towel indicates that these colors don't contain an adequate amount of binder in order to stick on the paper you used. BUT ( and pay attention on this) the Gansai colours are not made for painting on western papers, in other words papers with hard sizing on their surface. They are made to paint on Chinese or Japanese type of papers like Washi Kozo and such things that don't have sizing and as such are more absorbent. I assume that these paints get absorbed and stick very well on these types of paper.

Hiii.. thank you for sharing this information. 🙏 Genuine cobalts (PB28, PG50, etc) are usually semi opaque, but not very opaque. The ones that come in this set contain obviously white pigment because they're very opaque. It's understandable because these are hues (imitations of the original cobalts). I am aware that cobalts are on the opaque side, and I need to describe them with emphasis for the review, not that I'm surprised. The term "chalky" has multiple meanings if searched by definition. It could mean it contains chalk and could also mean to appear as "like having chalk" or matte. Chalky as an adjective resembles as if it contains chalk. During the tissue trick, i have mentioned that it will indicate how well the paints adhere on paper. And yes, this measures how balanced the % of binder is present to pigment. Also, as mentioned "can", just can, "can" be an indication of chalkiness. The cleanaing wàter may also be an imdication of chalk contents. Actually, these paints only look like the gansai paints at first because of their glossy appearance on pans and the size of pans. But the moment you use them, they feel more like usual student grade watercolors that include some opaque colors. 😊

@@AllanJayQuesada I have no objection on the quality of these paints. But if they are made with glue instead of gum Arabic then they are probably more suitable for use on Japanese/Chinese type of papers than regular watercolor ones. I assume that it is probably impossible to know what is the binder that are made with. lol

Hi, nice review. I have been wondering if you will review Aquarius (Roman Szmal) Watercolour or are they suffering in the humidity in your are? I remember you showing the paints a few years back but there was no review :(

@AllanJayQuesada 2 ай бұрын
I am aware of this and I'm very sorry. I happen to have collected 3 sets of Roman Szmal and a few more pans over the years, and more new pigments were introduced.. now, I'm still figuring out whether to review per set or all at once. Aside from Roman Szmal, i still owe the reviews of Sennelier, Rembrandt tubes, Jacksons, Maimeri, MGraham, Michael Harding, and a whole lot more. When i get more time later this year or early next year, these reviews will all be out, and for now, i need to do 1st sets sent by companies. 🙏
