I grew up as a young teen in the second row of the ECW Arena. Through 1996-1998, no one was as believable and also hate-able as a heel than Shane Douglas. New Jack was convincing as fuck but was beloved as a face, Shane was the best heel I dare say in all of wrestling in 1996 and 1997. I loved the Franchise! Perfect on a mic, and also really damn good in the ring. MJF really reminds me of the Franchise in ECW with how good he is talking combined with his superior in ring skills. Watching MJF perform feels real in a way I haven't felt since late 90s ECW.

MJF got me back into wrestling. The guy is incredible. And what's so interesting is the amount of comments you see online from people saying "He reminds me of [Insert Legendary Wrestler]." And the amount of different people who are put in that sentence is staggering. All while being so young. It just goes to show that he's done his homework, he uses so many different references to/from old footage, and takes into account minor details to his storylines. And it all comes together perfectly for him to steal small things here and there, use it in his own way, and then tell the world "I'm better than you, and you know it!"

MJF keeps kayfabe alive. Plain and simple. I seriously doubt when all cameras are off that he’s the same heel 24x7. His genius lies in blurring that line, to where even the narrator of this video doesn’t “know” whether he’s like this all the time. Cody wouldn’t sign off on a total POS. It’s MUCH harder to play the monster heel than the baby face fans love to cheer for. Roddy Piper kept his character alive 24x7 and was stabbed 3x in real life which is why he started wearing that leather jacket. It’s lined with a special Kevlar that defends against knife attacks. MJF is my favorite character in pro wrestling today bar none. In ring and on the mic, imo he’s the best on the planet right now in AEW and WWE.

And if ppl think MJF is scary or disrespectful as a heel when he walks out, go look at Bruiser Brody’s entrances. He’d come out swinging a chain like a madman and fans would literally get up out of their seats and run away from this man walking to the ring to avoid being hit with a giant chain. Getting the audience to run during an entrance takes a special kind of wrestler. MJF is just the modern incarnation of Brody mixed with the in ring ability of a Shawn Michaels and the mic work of someone like The Rock. Imo he is already a hall of fame wrestler…and he’s only 28

MJF is so great and really knows wrestling. You see that in his matches and feuds. He gets the most out of almost nothing, his match ith Darby is probably the best example of this. In interviews he always says he can do backflips, and I believe him, but he doesn't need to. Why do a backflip with 2 twist from the top rope to the outside if you can get a much bigger pop from a rope break? And in his feuds he also knows how to act, carry and sement himself as one of the bests in AEW history. I probably remember more MJF moments than Young Bucks moments from the last two years. MJF betraying Cody, he stole the show in the world title match and wasnt even a part of the match, the whipping.... holy sith that was nasty and brilliant, MJF vs Jungle Boy, MJF o the mic vs Moxley, MJF winning 2 Diamond Rings, MJF talking with Jericho, Dancing with Jericho, winning with Jericho, betraying Jericho, beating Jericho, throwing him off the cell, insulting every person called Pillman, feude with Darby, not talking with CM Punk, talking with CM Punk and so many more. And that was just from the top of my head before even watching the video. After watcin the video: I really thought it was possible for MJF to retire Chris Jericho because in AEW these things happen but well... it didnt. I wasnt a fan of the WWE finish but I don't think it really hurt MJF. Sadly he lost on probably the most watched PPV in modern Wrestling, but having only 2 singles losses isn't a bad thing, especially if they were against the AEW Champ Jon Moxley and Le Champion Chris Jericho. But I have to agree, it feels very 2003 Triple H like. But Jericho put MJF over huuuge 3 times previously and it made for great television. Also MJF is the best on the mic, we all know that he is better than us so I wont dwell on it too much. He is so good, he could make a crowd chant for Pillman, who didn't get much of any reacton up to this point. He owns the live crowd. He is so fast in his responses, its uncanny. Most importantly, he is a heel and does heel things like no other. He knows when to run, when to sell, how to sell and not make himself look like a foolish idiot even in situations that he should be. The paradigm shift from Mox, as you pointed out, was one of the best examples. We witness the early stages of a legend, a soon to be, probably one of the longest reigning AEW champions ever. p.s. In this video we sadly also see the decline of Jericho imo. Maaaan this guy was the greatest in 2019. So sharp on the mic, picked his spots in matches and didnt go for corny dad joke pops. Don't get me wrong, he still good, but man the pandemic affected his performance in a bad way.

I don't get what AEW was thinking with the MJ/Inner Circle feud. The build up was amazing, MJF having to bite his tongue to fit in with the Inner Circle but then the after math of the turn seemed like it was shoehorned in. Inner Circle vs the Pinnacle just did not live up to the hype because the MJF Jericho match should not have happened after the War Games match and the cage match should have happened down the line and not as soon as it did in the story. I think TK was learning how to be a booker with everyone whispering ideas in his ear. If this story happened today it would be much better.
