A small tip: If you just need more IO pins for stuff like a filament encoder sensor, additional environment sensors or what not, you can also get a cheap Blue Pill board and hook it up to the unused USB port on the mainboard. Blue Pills use the exact same microcontroller as the stock mainboard and toolhead board, so you don't have to think about the Katapult and Klipper configuration, and you can easily extend Rappetor's nice automatic MCU update script to also handle your Blue Pill. Even works with the dirty stock Klipper installation.

My biggest concern with the SV08 is the bed. It appears to be somewhat thin and is only rated at 100C. My other options are the Troodon 2.0 or a Voron 2.4 kit from Formbot. The Sovol SV08 is the lowest price but lacks the die hard support community of the Voron. Again, thank you for all your hard work.

This looks like a fairly accessible project. At this point, I've only upgraded an mmu2s->mmu3, and replaced the stock hot end on my MK3s+ with a Revo. I've love to have a printer with a larger build area than what the Prusa footprint offers, but that 4K price tag is hard to justify. I feel like I could add 1 additional tool head, and if all goes well, I can add the rest as time allows. Have you spoken with Sovol about getting the software upgrades into their next release cycle? It seems that if they get on board and perhaps even sell a multi head printer as an option that they will make a mint.
@Justin-cv4oj3 ай бұрын
Sovol teamed up with another company for a multimaterial/multicolor solution (Co Print ChromaSet.) I'm guessing they will push that before anything making life easier for alternative and diy solutions. Most companies are going to go for the cheaper all in one single toolhead solution instead of a pricier more complicated multi-head design. Especially companies that sell their own filament because the waste associated with purge towers is better for them.

I'm able to understand your pov but people like me see it a bit differently. It's more of a thrill that you're able to modify something on your own which is stock. How I see this upgrade series is like the relics of ancient reddit or some old online forum of how someone modified parts an old Buick to make it accommodate the upgrades. These videos may also serve a purpose to even Sovol maybe to bring out a stock multi-toolhead 3d printer in the future. I do understand that in the future there would be huge innovations in the 3d printer space but maybe there'd be a random broke enthusiast who's able to cop this printer from somewhere and upon stumbling upon these videos who'll find this series useful.

Would it be possible to combine one of the tool changer heads with the ERCF project while using the other heads for different materials? For example, using one head for multicolor PLA printing with the ERCF, along with carbon fiber filament, TPU, and a water-soluble support filament in other. Congrats on the channel! Note 1: If you're looking at programmers for STM chips that have a "PL" in them, DO NOT BUY! Prolific, who make the genuine chips, have DRM on the driver that prevents older models and clones from working on Windows 11 and possibly 10 if it's old enough, and these are the drivers built into the OS as well. PL chips should work with the Linux driver as I don't think prolific maintains the linux driver. Note 2: Rasberry PI imager can image other SBC images as well and only checks USB ports for drives to image, so you don't risk imaging your boot drive. Note 3: you can use SSH in the Windows terminal and if you're a linux user most file explorers on that OS support SFTP

Regarding the cable from the birdsnest to the toolhead - why is a 5 conductor+shield needed when a 4 conductor+shield gets all the signals plus power & ground there? I looked at the manual and didn't see any requirements for additional ground lines. It's pretty common to tie all extra pins in a connector to ground so they don't float, but aren't strictly required.

So Michael, what gauge wire are you using for that 5 core shielded cable? I’m having a tough time finding 18gauge shielded in 5 core. Best I can do here is 5 core shielded 20AWG wire. Do you think that would be enough for the power draw?
@TeachingTech3 ай бұрын
I've ordered some 18 gauge from Aliexpress. Wire there seems to be one step under is terms of cross section, so it is actually more like 20 gauge. 20 gauge is the Voron recommendation so I'm happy with that. It is RVVP which is shield flex cable, so hopefully fit for the purpose. I can't vouch for it until it arrives but here is what I ordered: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006371513803.html
@antallaczko87933 ай бұрын
For 4 Amps and 1.5 metre cable, you should be safe with 20 awg. Hotend heater should not draw more than 2 amps, 1 amp for extruder motor and fans is enough.

I agree. It's just that Aliexpress cable is a bit off in spec so 18awg from them to reach the equivalent of 20awg.

Also while trying to troubleshoot I compared the new config files to the old ones: They changed alot (from M117 wording, homing sequence, to full blocks of code missing) , sadly I don't understand inove to know which part causes the error and was just able to comment out the diffrences.
@eaman113 ай бұрын
Beware that if you hold on to your original EMMC as a backup and install the full Linux + Klipper on a new one you will have to upgrade also the firnware on the microcontroller. So if in the coming future you put back the old EMMS thinking at that as a backup it may now work as it's supposed to deal with an older release of the MCU firmware than the one you have installed. In case you should think about a backup of the original firmware as well (if not present in the main OS) and reflash that as well.
@TeachingTech3 ай бұрын
That is correct. If the steps are followed to back up the MCU firmware, it is a pain but this is reversible too by flashing back the standard firmware.
