The fact that Dan could turn his kids against their mother, when he had an affair AND he wasn't even around for the majority of their childhood lets me know he was a master manipulator.

Watch the entire trial on court tv website. Betty is no victim, in fact she was the narcissist and the abuser! She called Dan a “faggot” on a daily basis the kids heard these names their whole life. Long before Linda came along. She also called her own kids “retards” So many people testified to her lunacies thruout the marriage. She tormented him and the kids with her temper. They did not have a happy marriage. He met Linda and cheated on her and just wanted out. Betty was not having it so she killed them. WATCH THE TRIAL IT IS SO EYE OPENING!

Betty is always me, me, me! It figures she expects the kids to buy her a house if she ever gets out of prison! No remorse for the pain she put them thru, just buy me a house! Thruout the whole trial this was her attitude. She laughed and made face and rolled her eyes all thru the trial. She is an evil person.

@@thefawnlane Yes she is very wicked. When the prosecutor was questioning her about throwing a ketchup bottom at Dan, she exclaims: " I wish Dan was here to tell you the Truth" and the prosecutor says, " I wish he was too!" And the Betty smirks and goes, " Yeah, me too!" She is evil, she will always be a threat to other human beings and she should never be released. She even said one time that " Even though I am in jail, I am still alive" She was should have gotten the Death Penalty.

The two kids who do not want Betty released are her daughter Kim and her son Dan. The reason is clear: they are being manipulated and controlled by Larry Broderick, Dan's brother who is the executor of his estate. He has told them they will be disinherited if they support their mother. The other two who support Betty, her daughter Lee and her youngest son Rhett, cannot be controlled by Larry Broderick because Lee was already disinherited by Dan in his will prior to the killings. As far as Rhett is concerned, he cares more about his mother than money, which cannot be said for the two kids who want to keep their mother locked up on Larry Broderick's orders. Clearly there is a spirit of manipulation and control in the Broderick line.
@larkpraise
@larkpraise 9 жыл бұрын
+Deanne Booth actually, the two boys are the youngest. Kim is the oldest, the Lee, then Dan Jr., then Rhett. It is so sad that the curse of anger and rage has been inherited by Betty's kids. They were all old enough to witness and remember how unstable Both parents were and how they inflicted that on their children. By the way, Kim has said she had nothing to do with this book.
@shanekane8380

+Deanne Booth ~ Well said ! The two children are cognizant and have expressed, quite accurately, that even after 20 yrs. of reflection their mother is still stuck in a narcissistic 'victim mentality'. Incapable to feel any genuine remorse for murdering two people while they slept. Which (IMHO) renders Betty emotionally unstable; thus, dangerous to others that "push her" too far. Be it murder or otherwise.....it's not worth such a chance.
@jeanettea12345

+Shane Kane There is more than one way to 'kill' someone. D&L were hell bent on destroying Betty as is often done when after the newness wears off in their relationship. They then 'get off on' making the x (and oftentimes the children) miserable. I understand Betty's lack of remorse-they were killing her in their own way. She got the upper hand on them.
@shanekane8380

+jeanettea12345 ~ All three adults behaved badly ! None of them had clean hands. Betty, not only gave as good as she got but was relentless in instigating, perpetuating and exasperating a nasty situation. That was witnessed and well documented. The point is ~ The ugly dance called divorce happens thousands of times, to thousands of people. Without resorting to "the upper hand" (MURDER) as an acceptable remedy. It's also evident, she still (20 yrs. later) feels her actions were somehow justified. If she is currently bereft of remorse in doing so; it's a sound determining factor that she remain exactly where she is....Prison.

She wasn't a threat to them until they pissed her off. She still is saying they gave her no choice. Prison isn't just about who's in danger on the outside. if that were the case, we could release 75% of those in there as most murders are domestic situations. Yeah, the one she was mad at is dead, so let's just let her go? Parole boards expect a person to develop insight into their situation. I also don't think her child should be the person to make a decision about her release. She was mentally ill early on. Her husband didn't cause her to develop borderline and narcissistic personality disorders and he didn't make her kill him.

I can’t blame her. She devoted her life working and paying bills just to help him get through law school and be successful. In addition she was raising 4 kids. And he did what? Cheated on her, lied to her about the affair and then dumped her.He also used his law skills to destroy the rest of her life We all have a breaking point and he humiliated her. I don’t say that what she did was right, murder is never right, but I can understand the reasons behind that.

I was living in San Diego when the Broderick story broke. I was going through a divorce too at the time and was being jerked around by my husband. I could totally understand what Betty was going through. Dan withheld money from her and almost made her homeless with her 4 children. Being an attorney he was able to really stick it to her. And the legal community had his back. He made her crazy before she even knew about his affair. He seemed to enjoy torturing her and then saying shes crazy_I didnt do anything. If he had just done what a man who had 4 children with her should have done, it would never have gone that far. My ex kept me in court for years trying to take my daughter from me and he never paid a dime until i got another attorney and took him back to court. Thank God i was able to work 2 jobs and afford an attorney. I knew what pain Betty was in. I still feel he drove her to do what she did. He put so much stress on her , she snapped. People said it was because of his new wife, but it really wasnt. It was about how he was treating her as if she was nothing. He tortured that woman for years. And seemed to enjoy it.

Yes, it's easy to see that the husband was the narcissist. Cheaters are the biggest narcissists because they always get away with it. They make it look like they are the innocent one and their partner is the crazy one. They smear their partner publicly and walk away with everything. Then their partner becomes crazy because they took away their entire life. On the flipside Betty had her own dysfunction, otherwise she would not have attracted her husband who used her up, discarded her like a crumpled piece of paper and continued to abuse her with the court. Her children were brainwashed by the other woman and their dad because that is who they ended up living with. If she had walked away and gone no contact, she likely would be free today, but how many women would be able to leave their 4 children and make a new life. Altho murder is not acceptable, I can only imagine how much pain and suffering she went thru to get to that point.

Betty was just denied parole (can't apply again for 15 years!) and good for that. Even her own words, in interviews, show her as a narcissistic sociopath who ruined her own life, all on her own. She never showed any compassion for what her insanity was doing to her children. They never existed for her except as tools to use against a husband who (quite understandably!) committed the mortal sin of falling out of love with a crazed, selfish Gorgon of a woman. She should have taken that $16,000 a month (in 80's dollars!) and fixed herself up and gotten a young boyfriend.

Cars, clothes, insurance, etc. 16k a month alimony, her kids in private schools, her bank account secured, etc. I moved on, with no alimony, one child, a used car I paid for, my own bank account, my living expenses and my daughter's, my cost. My life. What I didn't have, the more costly items, were the words, the cruelty, the abusive and neglectful spouse. He was gone, and my first meal with my daughter, free of this man, was like the most expensive meal anyone could imagine.

Betty was driven insane then punished for going insane just like I was but women and kids hold little value in this World, still. There is no way I feel she should still be in Prison for snapping because she is a human being that was SHOVED past her limit with degradation and humiliation not to mention the loss of friends, kids, family, and her freedom yet boys will be boys. It's grossly unfair, unjust, and has nothing to do with real Justice in my opinion when a man can kill a woman's dream/life and leave her imprisoned in the ashes of his decisions.

My mother went through something very very similar to this with my bastard father and if it weren't for the fact that she had friends and family to help her get counseling and to deal with it before I got this ugly, she probably would have done the same thing! Thousands of women go through shit like this all the time in this world, and it's been going on forever!.... Working their asses off to support their husbands dreams, raise their children, keep a home, attend all the appointments and games, keep up appearances, and literally drive yourself crazy trying to keep yourself absolutely flawlessly perfect so he doesn't lose interest in you while you work to build a comfortable lives for yourselves, all to be dumped on the side like a piece of garbage when he decides they're not good enough anymore! It's bullshit! What Betty did was wrong but she paid her do, now it's time to let her out! And to be honest, I don't blame her for losing it! just the fact alone that he had an affair would be enough to drive a woman mad, let alone everything else he did to her! Having her die behind bars is not the answer she needs to be rehabilitated! intense physcotherapy is in order! I believe that she was going downhill for a very long time before that November day, and she just finally snapped and that shows that she was not fully aware of what she was doing and the gravity of the situation, Her mental health needs to be the focus, but I truly believe that she has no intention of ever hurting another person.

I’m really sorry for what your mum went through and how that would have hurt you too. It’s so nice to hear from men who are not selfish and can see the bigger picture. Not just what they want for themselves. You will be a beautiful husband if you are not already. My husband did the same thing to me but left when I was 9 months pregnant with our second daughter, a baby we had planned for! My emotions were to nest, meanwhile I had to look after a toddler and deal with my husband leaving for another woman. Then the helol of him taking my new born baby off me five days and nights a fortnight along with my breast milk so he and his girlfriend could play mummy’s and daddy’s with our children, my babies. It actually just got worse and worse, the legal battles, screwing me down to nothing financially with a lesbian lawyer who never had kids and didn’t want kids so how could she understand the pain of what she was doing to me. I lost all my money fighting legal battles and then my ex husband lost the rest of it by trading it away on the stick market. I thought I had signed off every document, I signed everything he gave me, but he didn’t give me one of our company documents to sign that would remove me as a director. So after our divorce, he is remarried with a new baby, his lawyer tells me I have to pay for his margin loan debt of $350,000 from trading derivatives that he wasn’t watching. I understand Betty Broderick. Totally.

We can't punish people for murdering "nice" people and let them off for ones we don't "like". The law--thankfully--doesn't work like that. Nobody "did" anything to Betty Broderick; from all the facts and what her own children (even the ones supporting her release) have said, and what interviews with her starkly reveal, she is a self-enclosed, self-righteous narcissist with no capacity for caring or even seeing anyone outside the turmoil in her own brain, not even her own children. There isn't a scrap of evidence that--forget her ex-husband and his wife--she has a particle of remorse for the suffering she has caused her kids. There's nothing to say she can even see it, or anything that doesn't have to do with HER personally.

I think the impetus was when Dan said haha I have been fucking Linda the whole last four yrs.and its a good example of females cruelty to other females.but we must lionize good old danny boy.Dan made her the col blooded killer.I could go on and on about this case.she's doing her time-over 30 yrs now.I don't think she would kill again.also clip 'forgot to mention she also pput him thru medical school too.DONT FUCK WITH PEOPL ES HEAD.her kids -try to find it in your heart to forgive and love her.

Betty gave Dan her power and she ended up losing herself in the marriage. When he left her, it was sad that Betty did not use the opportunity to reinvent herself and regain her independence. She did not need to kill them. More than likely, Dan may have decided to leave Linda for a younger woman later in life. or vice versa. I think Betty was besides herself to get peoples attention to what she was going through. Even her "friends" left her. I have two friends who were rejected by their long time husbands, for younger women. Pains from the heart are worse than physical pains. I can't get Betty, and what she went through, out of my mind. Too many women today have no Christian morals and don't care if a man is married or not. Linda was a gold digger. Dan had a good job and money, while she didn't have an education or money. Kim is a ungrateful daughter and only seems to profit by writing about the sufferings her mother went through because of her unfaithful, womanizing dad. I see no reason that Betty shouldn't get our of jail. She more than served her time, and she really was the main victim in this case. I can only hope that Kim someday experiences the same unfaithful husband as her dad was, and her good mother experienced. Justice has come to both Dan and Linda when them both met their maker, and it doesn't look very good for either of them. "If any man commit with the wife of another, and defile his neighbour's wife, let them be put to death, both the adulterer and the adulteress." [Leviticus 20:10] ~

Dan and Betty both were go-getters. She was willing to put away her ambitions because his would yield better fruits. His success was a team effort, until he reached the level where he could do it without her. The reality is, people who judge Betty as narcissistic or unstable, don’t realize BB and DB chose each other for their own reasons: Dan may have chosen Betty for her complete devotion to family and she chose him for his 💯 focus to success. Both had their own roles to play. Dan reached the maturity of his success first, because children take longer and is always a risky investment (as we can all see here with Kim and Dan Jr. betraying their mom) Dan reached the summit of his mountain first and he shoved her off the cliff because he no longer needed her. Kim and Dan Jr show what kind of low moral characters they are when they don’t get to enjoy that luxurious lifestyle their father was able to provide. But is that the only fulfilling life one can have? I see these 2 as manifestation of Dan’s worst characteristics: callouse, immoral, ruthless who wish they could further his reach and Betty ended it all. Maybe they could have turned into the Rockefeller’s or the Kennedy’s or Trumps if Betty would just be willing to be a pawn to be tossed away like so many women in these ambitious people’s paths?! But they messed with the wrong woman!

It really must've been extremely difficult for Betty to watch another woman just move in on her man and her home of almost twenty years, that she built and nurtured. They even stayed all in the same house. same bed, same country club friends, who apparently had no trouble replacing her for the "newer" version. The lady also bore a striking resemblance to Betty in her youth. In the movie version it shows the children just cavorting around with Linda without any pity or loss for their mother. All I see is a man who got tired of his wife, and continued to wear down her self-esteem, hoping she'd slink down into the shadows and go away.. and things just didn't work out that way for him. I am not a killer. But when I think of all the women who die every year at the hands of men like that, it really is sickening. Maybe they're the lucky ones. So many other women suffer a daily corrosive, humiliating defeat at the hands of men who don't love them anymore. Someone perhaps decided for once, that it wasn't going to be her. In her own words; "She could not let him win."This was her husband. I think that's more than fair.

jeanettea12345 It is by the same daughter that wants her kept in prison. What a way to do your own mom. She didn't walk in Betty's shoes and has no concept of what she went thru until it happens to her with her own marriage. The only reason the book is written is because SHE WANTS MONEY. In other words making a profit off of her mother's inprisonment and her father's death. In one scene in the movie Dan is telling the children how much he loves then and then adds: and Linda loves you too. What a crock. Loved them so much that Linda signed/witnessed disinheritance of the younger daughter. Betty went thru hell with these people.

More than anyone, these kids would know their parents. Doesn't that tell you there must have been something so seriously wrong that a daughter would vote for her mother to remain in prison? You seem to be speaking of unquestioning loyalty. No one owes that, and certainly not to the person who killed her father and his wife. She is a brave woman for not caving to people like you who think loyalty to a mother is more important than the truth and a moral responsibility to tell it. "Not supporting to your Mom is one thing, but going before a parole board stating that she feels she shouldn't be released is another" And what exactly is "it"? How is it 'another" thing? Why should she support a murderer? Better yet, you say it's OK I guess not to support her, but she should endorse her release? How does that even make sense? Kim broderick doesn't have a mother. She was raised by a selfish killer who has thought only about how SHE feels. She justified killing two people because she didn't think she got all she deserved. She left four children with NO parents so she could have the satisfaction of revenge. That is not the love of a mother. Real mothers don't set an example of selfish murder as a strategy for coping with disappointment and conflict. She owed the life she created a stable upbringing. She didn't even come close to delivering. Her children owe her nothing.

Bette Thompson ...Oh Lord, here we go. Although I'm somewhat busy at my place of business; I'll take a second to entertain this with a response... Sorry, if you don't agree, however, my comment and MY opinion still stands. As I'd already stated, I wasn't in the household, so no, I haven't an idea of how difficult it may have been for the daughter. I was simply going by what was depicted in the film. Yes, Betty is a murderer, x 2. To make things worse, up until thus far she has yet to display any remorse. But I'll admit, I've always a wee bit of a soft spot for Betty. Sometimes there's exceptions to the rule. This, to me, is one of those cases. No one can deny that Mr. Broderick drove her to the point of insanity. Overall, in no way am I saying she should feel good about her decision, but I do totally understand if she felt a sense of vindication.....still then & now. I don't know maybe this says more about me myself, personally, than it does, Ms. Betty. Have a good one.
@Aly-yc9hw
@Aly-yc9hw 7 жыл бұрын
Insanity is really a legal term. She doesn't fit the rule. I believe she knew right from wrong at the time of the offense. I also believe she was impaired by non legal personality issues and emotional problems that affected her judgement, but in this case, the law doesn't allow for that. Other countries have heat of passion and uncontrollable impulse rules that I don't think would even apply to her. We're all human. You can have a soft spot and you don't have to be sorry for disagreeing with me. I'm only stating my own opinion, not trying to convince anyone to change their mind. If only she had some insight into her own actions. If she owned her decision, expressed some understanding of the other lives affected, I don't know. I might feel differently, but as it is, I don't think she is safe, or rather we aren't. Even her kids don't agree. I would be totally shocked if everyone felt the same way about this case or anything at all. It makes life interesting, eh?

the only people i felt sorry for were the kids. betty & daniel were toxic together & made a lousy home environment for the kids. linda f***** around with her rich married boss & also acted badly after the divorce feeding into the drama between them. betty deserves to spend life in prison for robbing those children from having a relationship with their father. she & daniel seem to have been 2 very selfish, narcissistic people.

s mast ~ Insightful and balanced take! The three adults catered to their own individual narcissistic agenda. The children's emotional welfare unfortunately, were not; yet should have been prominent. Sad!!!!

She robbed her children of a relationship with a malignant narcissist who kept their mother in litigation for 5 years. There was no reason for that. He weaponized his law degree for many years and did every single thing he could to harm her. No different than being punched in the face every single day.

Dan Broderick was a narcissist he chose this woman because he wanted to control his life. And live his perfect dream. He clearly had no regard for what she had given to the relationship and then he treated her like s***. If you truly care and love somebody you don't treat him like that

Many divorces can turn very nasty, this is not uncommon. In these divorces someone always feels they got screwed, someone always feels they were unjustly hurt. These feelings of betrayal are as old as marriage itself. However, rarely do they turn into a double homicide, this is uncommon. Betty was never able to unload her emotional baggage. She couldn't do it back then, and according to her own children she's still unable to let it go some 20 years later.

I happen to disagree with you. This divorce turned nasty because Dan filed and turned it nasty. Betty didn’t ask for a divorce, didn’t screw anyone over for her own gains. She definitely unloaded her emotional baggage with those five bullets LOL I think she is as free and light as a feather at this point, despite being in jail and that is why she didn’t have to fake remorse for your benefit or those Jail house officers. 👏

@@seattlerain8655 She murdered two people, the jury found her guilty, she's been in jail for the last 30 years, and make no mistake, she'd love to get out. But according to most legal analysts, jail is where she'll remain. So in this case the system worked. End of story.

Regardless Betty was torn apart. The so called Linda should've found herself without a married rich man. Wish Betty would've walked away and had a good life. They drove her crazy. Children should be bound to stand by their parents and try to understand. However murder wasn't the answer. This family went through hell. Thanks to one 2 very selfish ppl
