Accept that the experiment of your forefathers to create a new country called Pakistan by breaking away from India has failed. A glaring example of this is clearly standing before you in a country called Bangladesh. Remember that your own ancestors raided India for plunder to drive out Buddhism from India.

The last time I read this book Pakistan between Mosque and Military that was some 10 years back. After reading it I was really astounded by its content and appreciated the frankness and boldness of the author. I salute Hussain Haqqani for all his work about showing the real picture and state of Pakistan to the whole world and look what happened to him now, he is not allowed to live in his birthplace. Recently last month I again bought a hard cover copy of the book with some added chapters to the original 1st edition of 2005. Pakistan needs people like HH to guide and steer it in this hopeless situation but alas they are banned from coming back. A must read by the ones who are interested about the ongoing problems and situation of Pakistan.

It's worth noting that when you say 17% resources that's because the population was also 17% of the whole. That the army was much bigger was because it had a higher proportion of people from present day Pakistan. If there was good leadership then that would have been right sized. But poor leadership meant the Army got a country instead of the other way around. It also played a part in hyping up the threat from India. If India was a real threat then after 71 India would have essentially kept Bangladesh but didn't. Even now Bangladesh spends less on military than Pakistan despite being surrounded on all sides by India and is growing faster than Pakistan.

Yes this is the most unbiased of his reports. Good job👌 showing signs of maturity!🎉 (having an elite perspective in most other of his earlier podcasts--at times I wondered why he even bothered to invite learned scholars when he would just persist & ram down his young, limited, unseasoned & elitist views?)

Excellent review. This perhaps could be your biggest contribution to creating an aware society, one that reads, ponders, has an open mind about their own long held beliefs and one that is not only not afraid to concede its shortcomings but also brave enough to move forward and put things right, it all starts with reading and knowing the history. Thank you!!!!

"Pakistan Between Mosque and Military" is an eye-opening book. I myself am reading this book these days. When I bought the book and started reading it, I was shocked to see that chapter 5: "Afghan Jihad" and chapter 6: "Military Rule By Other Means" were missing. But, I was determined to read them anyway. So, I downloaded its soft copy from google, and read them.

I always listen to Haqqani ji whenever it is news or opinion related to Pakistan. The more I see and listen to your podcast (to be honest as an Indian, I don’t have similar Indian podcasts that match your rational and critical analysis despite disagreements on some points) I see hope and also concern for what is happening to the people who are basically the same race as mine. Pakistan to many Indians is a tale of two brothers dividing family property and having disputes. The main thing is that they are brothers. Honestly, I feel all the more blessed to have more saner, rational leaders that kept the country intact, passed laws to benefit common citizens, and most importantly helped maintain democracy and its institutions.
