I think you are missing the point on the exercise quote. Someone who weighs 500 lbs hurts themselves when they exercise. So, they can lose weight without exercise UNTIL they lower the stress on their joints that exercise will produce. Those people say.. I can't lose weight because I can't exercise. No need to start a carnivore (or Keto) diet if I can't exercise. BUT there is a reason to start. BECAUSE.. You don't have to exercise to lose weight on the Keto/Carnivore diet. That is not a bad thing. For someone who has type 2 diabetes and is very obese, losing weight and reversing that insulin problem in a way that is reproducible is the START. You can worry about exercise later when it doesn't kill your joints. That is not to say that exercise is not also good for your health, but you can not exercise your way out of a horrible diet. You can eat a proper human diet and lower your weight HEALTHILY.

I've actually heard this same thing once from professional distance runner that if they are overweight, they don't do grueling exercises + under eating for weight loss as that is a recipe for injury. They lose the weight first before killing it on the roads or track.

You missed the point of what she said. Like the whole entire thing. Furthermore there are different types of exercise that even morbidly obese people or other infirmed people can engage in. Finally...weight watchers has been around forever and they preach portion control, infact MOST of the emphasis in diet culture of at least the last 50 Years is placed on caloric restriction and portion control and NOT exercise. Nobody seriously trying to improve their health and lose weight is going to say "well I can't exercise so might as well not even try to lose weight." Never...unless they are looking for an excuse to continue eating garbage

I don't know... I don't think it's good to tell people they don't have to exercise. They'll lose weight without it, and they'll feel better than they've ever felt... They can exercise then. For example, I have a friend who's morbidly obese and both knees are ripped and give her pain. I turned her onto a carnivore diet. She's lost about 15 pounds now, but she's still in the beginning. Of course I told her that she doesn't have to exercise now. Get some of the weight off, get the knee surgeries that you need... During that time stick to your diet and lose that weight. Eventually, you'll feel better and exercise will come naturally, and even if it doesn't you can worry about it then. People like that are not going to magically be a different person who loves exercise, and if you push them they'll just quit.

Issues with number 1. After decades of work in this space, someone who is needing to lose weight should not add any extra exercise beyond what they already do for numerous reasons. Firstly it’s added stress when weight loss itself is stressful on the body , the added exercise will make them more hungry which messes with their ability to not overeat. Yes exercise is healthy and beneficial always but it truly is best to not try to lose weight with exercise it just leads them to burn out. The weight truly is lost by diet exercise can be increased when they are lighter and feeling better and ready to tone and build muscle. I understand why someone who hasn’t needed to lose a lot of weight would not get this but it’s actually very true.

I've experienced that and didn't know why. Thanks for explaining this. I would do well for the first month or so eating less calories and exercising daily but over the course I would be extremely exhausted and always hungry. Then after increasing the calories just a little bit made me want more and I would gain back everything i lost. Now I'm on carnivore and don't excercise much besides daily chores/activities and am never too hungry. I actually started counting calories and realized i was way under eating sometimes because i was always full from all the protein/fat.

So the remote goes in the tv stand and when I want to ch age channel I stood up and got it. I planted some pot plants. I bought a vibration plate and started using it sitting down until I was able to use it standing up. Movement is exercise it’s just about doing the right sort. I studied exercise science through the ACSM, Nursing and have been an active martial artist for much of my life, so I get the rationale. But I think it's VERY important information for some people to understand that exercise is not necessary for weight loss on a carnivore diet. I've seen comments referring to people who are unable to exercise due to damage, etc. My case is different, however. I'd pretty much given up on optimal health for myself. After 30+ years of searching for the right information I'd lost my young adult son, not to mention both my parents and was in severe grief when I became aware that the time had come for my daughter to have her reproductive chaos like my mom and myself. It happens that I'd been dismissing what I thought of as some crazy fad dieters for some time but in a desperate move I tried carnivore with my daughter in hopes that it would help. So I mostly laid in bed unless I was forced to do something... and ate meat eggs and dairy. I lost 40 lbs, greatly improved my state of mind and recently have finally had the energy, motivation, and mental clarity to start working out again. My daughter's life has been altered for the better and she is well on her way to optimal health, and my partner is also on the road to recovery from wasting.💚💚💚

Issue No 1, Exercise, just like a diet people need to consult their physicians before engaging in an exercise regimen. You are giving a broad statement, when there are indeed situations where doctors extremely limit a patients activity. For those individuals statements like you just made discourage them from even trying to loose the access weight which will lead to a healthier lifestyle for them. For decades I exercised though pain, literally permanently damaging my body, I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Literally physical therapy is the only exercise I even attempt anymore. I managed to lose and maintain my weight via diet alone.

@@LMPM0909 yes. The problem is there are a lot of general statements, or projections from a content creator instead based on where they are in their journey vs gearing towards various groups that are at different stages. A good example is, Lillie talks about Vit D Def and wants to supplement, however if an overweight person was to do that while losing a lot of weight quickly, they will experience Vit D overdose as the fat cells has stores of it and as they shrink they release the Vit D into the system. So content does need tailoring. Its noy a one size fits all as people are at various stages, and what is seen as half truths, is full truth to one group.

For those who are coming into Keto/Carnivore with eating disorders and a lot of nutritional deficiencies, they may actually gain weight and this is good necessary weight gain for your body to heal. If you are only eating Buttered Ribeyes once or twice a day, then of course you will lose weight. But is it improving or ruining other aspects of your life....sleep, mood, strength, endurance, libido, auto-immune reponses, sinus health, teeth health...so many others things to measure that are more important than weight loss.

I DO believe in all the benefits of exercise, but there are situations such as when I looked after a brain injured fellow who had one unusable side of his body and got him on the diet. He lost weight without exercise and it was SERIOUSLY beneficial for him. There are always going to be the exceptions I guess, but generally....exercise also has its own benefits of course and we gotta stay 'movin' if we can! Loved hearing that dairy is a plus for you as I find that for myself as well. I make milk kefir and honestly....it hits the belly like a soft, calming cloud!

Some people can't exercise but they can change their diet and lose the fat until they reach the point where they can and feel good enough to exercise. It is where that came from, start small and with one step rather than trying to do it all at once. We have no idea what we need regarding vitamins and minerals. To figure out the RDA they cut down the vitamins and minerals until they started seeing side effects. This is not an accurate measure of what we need to get optimal biological operation of our systems. They also didn't take into consideration that when we eat vegetables we consume vitamins as we try to digest them. The amounts of vitamins and minerals we need change radically based on what we eat. When you are no longer doing damage to your body with the foods you eat is also a factor. I cannot drink milk. The sugar hits far too hard. Cheese has to be aged.

There was a lot of confidence put in the RDAs in this video. They were established for 95% of the population, not the 0.1% of carnivores. I don’t think we have much idea of the micronutrients we need to get only a daily basis. Trial and error seems to be the only way unfortunately.
@LillieKane

Absolutely! Something like Vitamin C, I don't think truly applies to people eating a meat based diet. According to Dr Stephen Phinney, someone who eats a higher carb diet, may require more Vitamin C as glucose and Vitamin C compete for the same receptors. But I also believe our soil, water, and food supply are nutrient deprived and we also don't bathe in magnesium/potassium filled streams, lakes, and oceans anymore. I completely agree, I don't think the RDA is completely accurate nor do I personally try to get the exact nutrient requirements on the RDA. But I do think there are some nutrients that are harder to obtain from food nowadays. Thanks for sharing, have an rockin' day! :)

@@LillieKane not only vitamin C. The entire glycolysis pathways is thiamine dependent and a zero carb diet reduces vitamin B1 to less than half. Choline and methylation will be always replete on carnivore diets thus bypassing the elevated need for folate due to overabundance of pyridoxine and cobalamin. Glycine abundance will improve many metabolic pathways that otherwise require elevated vit c, niacin and b9 as in typical carb filled diets. Iron copper and zinc on carnivore will greatly reduce your needs for vit c, vit D and vit E in the immune role and antioxidant needs. And so on

My personal thoughts: •This “diet” is a change for most people. First thing to change is the word “Diet”. Change it to “Lifestyle”. Words have power. The word diet usually comes with the feeling of grief and struggle. •Take videos from popular Lifestyle Influencers (see what I did there? lol) as experiences, Not as advice. Take their experience and add bits of it to your own personal lifestyle. If it works for you personally, then keep it. Doesn’t work? Dump it. •Blood work is done by very few people. Make it an absolute requirement, if at least once a year. You need to know what’s happening inside of your body. For example, Lillie would visually look like the picture of perfect health. However, her blood work showed her actual deficiencies and what additional nutrients her own body needed. You can’t figure that stuff out by looking at a scale or mirror. Get the blood work done! Thanks for sharing your experiences Lillie!

If by exercise for the sake of exercising it's true, you don't need to. If exercising going about your daily life, then sure. Someone who is obese should not be exercising, that is just stupid. They will just injure themselves. They need to return to a normal weight before doing such things. The idea that you need to exercise like some pseudo athlete to lose weight or be healthy is just nonsense from the start and rather damaging.

She obviously didn't consider many possible situations people find themselves in. Her advice is based on her personal experience. She forgets there are many people with disabilities and other restrictions that exercise can actually harm them when done at the wrong time or is impossible for them period. I would recommend losing most of your weight first before exercising, if possible, to reduce stress on your joints. Also you will enjoy it more when you don't have to drag along 400 extra pounds. I think getting out for 15-30 minutes a day is better advice, starting with slow walk as long as it's comfortable. Increasing movement gradually. There are some movements you can do just lying on your bed.

@@starkiss77 Exactly! You have to be gentle with your body if you have abused it for decades. There are a lot of adaptive low intensity exercise routines that can be done from a bed or a chair to start and once you lose some weight, you can start walking slowly, even if you use a walker to help ease the weight on the knees. Even deep breathing exercises are good because you exhale ketones and CO2, which is literally weight that you are exhaling from your body. I really like swimming because it's really gentle on the joints but you still are exercising muscles because you are dealing with water resistance. Now that I have lost some weight, I like to use the elliptical, particularly for HIIT

Ah, these are carnivore "bumper stickers", Lillie! They all require more explanation than just the broad pronouncements. I appreciate this video and I recommended your channel to a close friend who has fibromyalgia and other issues and is very thin, trying to gain weight. She was already cleaning up her diet, removing seed oils and formerly plant based, getting a handle on her health in her early 60's. She really loves your channel. I am a chronic undereater myself. When I ate the SAD diet, eating less than 1000 calories every day kept me hungry *and* heavy. I'm now going on 67 years old and hypothyroid (controlled for 24 yrs). I eat more, better food since beginning the ketovore into mostly carnivore arena a few years ago, but I am not often hungry and very busy on the homestead so I tend to undereat a lot. Lost all the extra weight I had gained before the doc said, yep, your thyroid is asleep and that's why you've gained 50 lbs. I lost all that, still probably 15 lbs too high, but I rarely get on the scale anymore. I can feel when I am bloated and when I gained a pound without it because I feel more in touch with my body's signals these days. I do take a combination Vit K/Vit D3 gel cap and Vit C and a multivitamin every day and some days, more supplements like NAC and zinc and other miscellaneous supplements. We order our grass fed beef from a local farm that has antibiotic/hormone-free beef, tender and tasty. We do grow whatever vegetables we eat (almost none, really, except tomato slices on our beef patties in summer and a couple others on rare occasion so we can those) , have berry bushes for in-season blueberries and blackberries and have our own free range chickens for the best eggs in the world. We do get a lot of natural exercise on this homestead, plus I lift weights so that t can lift those 50# feed bags and tote them to the barn. I never get sick and for some reason, even on a less than optimal diet, I never did get sick, but I didn't always feel good back then. We have good tasting well water without those city chemicals and I just began taking electrolytes because it's so darn hot now even in the N. Georgia mountains at 2000 ft elevation. Sorry for the novel, but I really enjoy your videos and the excellent information. We have some wonderful carnivore teachers and coaches on this platform and your style in infiinitely positive! ~Cynthia

I run 25-30 miles a week and understand the benefits but I do say this to people sometimes. Some people just don’t want to exercise or don’t think they can if they’re too overweight, or they’ll try and get injured. Since they think you have to exercise to lose weight then they just give up and don’t even try to eat healthy. I think it’s important for people to know the difference - that you can lose weight solely through diet alone, but exercise does have plenty of its own health benefits.

I am in my late 50’s. I went to Europe on vacation. My diet was not completely awful, but it was pretty damn bad. I skipped breakfast, tried to eat a small lunch, and then big dinner and beer every night. I did not gain an ounce. I was not going to the gym or working out, but I was walking six or seven hours a day nonstop. I don’t do that at home where I walk for an hour and workout for 45 min with weights. I always thought exercise alone would not be enough at my age, but I was wrong. If I am willing to hike all day, then it is possible. I’m not and so I need to follow a good diet most of the time.

I think you're one of the few people on youtube that isn't trying hard to shill a product or drive an ideological diet down peoples throats. Its very refreshing. I have blocked most dietary youtube channels that KZbin keeps recommending me because its misleading. I like your unbiased approach. Meat will always be a staple diet for me but Im not cutting out the green veg and I add a little fruit in the mornings after exercise. Thats my thing at the moment and I am sure it will change in the future. One thing is sure though I will never go back to ultra processed foods anymore. The supermarkets are full of that crap. I dont own a freezer either so that prevents me from stocking up on ice cream and pizza

I love how you have nuance and realize that your experience isn’t the holy grail for everyone and different people will have different experiences. My problem with a select few doctors in the carnivore community is that the philosophical operational viewpoint they have is that everyone must be like them and their experience necessarily must be reflective of everyone else’s. And as a result, if something doesn’t work for them or they don’t want to try it, it must be the case that it’s total hogwash and then they’ll cherry pick evidence that suits their view point. And anything that does align with their approach must be the only truth. There was one such doctor who with the liver king drama made a series of videos basically going “see see I told you organ supplements are bullshyt.” Look my friend, liver king cheating himself/his audience is neither evidence for nor against organ consumption. Just because you don’t like organs and only eat a diet of cooked fatty muscle meats it doesn’t mean you have to use what comes across as dishonest arguments. But some of these people particularly a few doctors don’t understand this. What I can sense in your vibes is that you do have nuance and that’s a breath of fresh air in any field these days really. Like how you implied having organs is better but then added if you’re muscle meat only here’s what you can do even if it might not be optimal to make sure you get the key nutrients etc

I cannot help but to wonder if this video will get a Bart Kay response. It would be interesting because all these points you bring up are debated a lot and should be talked about in much more detail or depth and I would enjoy that very much. I am also very interested in what constitutes proper nutrition as we simply have such a skewed idea of what 'normal' is that we have a hard time knowing just what it should be. Personally, I have never cared what my weight was while working on healing issues. I firmly believe that when the issues resolve, the body will work to regulate the weight. May be wrong on this, but when all the markers I track seem to be in the ranges I want, if the extra fat doesn't work itself off, then I will go above and beyond to lose it. I believe we still rely far too much on mindful eating and do not allow the body to get back to being able to regulate the eating through the hormonal prompts.

I think people underestimate the importance of seafood. I truly believe we should be eating a variety of seafood several days a week. It provides iodine and other essential nutrients. What I’ve been doing is eating sardines every other day and oysters every other day. I try to eat a rare steak a couple times a week, chicken wings a couple times a week and pork belly as often as I can. Adding in a small amount of raw liver a week and plenty of egg yolks preferably raw. Exercise, sleep well, stay hydrated and get outside even on cold days.

This comment should be pinned. I was vegan for almost seven years, and there are definitely parallels to the carnivore community in terms of the dogmatic and know-it-all attitude. I just finished 1 month of strict carnivore and I followed the advice from all the idiots telling me to eat until comfortably full. I followed this despite it being against my better judgment, but I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. Unsurprisingly, I gained weight. I honestly felt duped like I got duped into veganism. Long story short, the carnivore community has lost all credibility to me. I am switching to an animal-based diet starting tomorrow, but this strict carnivore is a sham.
