What a wonderful way to use that lonely apple or two so it does not go to waste. We will eat some & dehydrate but I don't have enough to can until I get more apples. Would love to make this so I can have it ready for morning toast when chilly mornings hit. Mmmm pear, nutmeg...oh yeah. Thank you!

That looks terrific. I love the idea of using the crock pot. It makes it so much easier. Also, thanks for the idea of using the drying mat too. What a great way to protect the jars from the cool counter top and absorb any water from them. Oh and congrats on your pear harvest! I would imagine that each year you'll get more and more. Then you'll get more and more butter too. ..LOL

So many times my searches end up back at this channel! This time I was looking for the rough little pears. Someone gave me a giant bag of them today and I wondered if they were worth canning. Im waiting for them to cool now. Nice peeler btw.ty :)

That looks so yummy. I would love to get my hands on some pears, but they are so expensive around here. I am going to try a fruit stand tomorrow and see what they have.

i read on a canning chatroom a girl in some asian country said they couldn't get pectin there and they use green fruit to get pectin, like green plums or green apples. i tried it and it didn't work - and i don't know why. on adding sugar for people with medical sugar issues and can't add normal sugar my girlfriend mixes different kinds of pears or apples to get a natural sweetness. also fyi, up in the northwest it seems like 1 out of 20 people are growing their own vegetables and fruit; the store food isn't good; it has no taste anymore and its real expensive. we found a lady who sells heirloom tomato plants already to plant in the ground almost 2 ft tall for 10 bucks which includes the shipping. all heirlooms. and u can send her your family seeds and her partner business will grow your own heirlooms for you and send them to you. i love that.

Nice, nice! Gotta try this. Already planned on Apple butter. The property we bought last year had a small tree that I thought was dead but it turned out to be alive and it is a pear. Property next to us has a pear also and the owners told us we can have the pears.

I know this is an old post but just in case you still are looking please know that the ugly spots on your pears is called cork spot and can be fixed with a bag or 2 of lime depending on the size of the tree. Full grown 3 bags in fall & next year no funny distorted pears. In the south it is common but most folks won't buy the lime.

Instead of sugar, I used pure maple syrup. Never tried the vinegar, I have some Bragg's guess I will try that.

About fruit trees I go with the philosophy plant 3 times as many trees as you think you need. Some years a tree just wont produce much or may even have nothing or it may just die. At 3:30 I can't understand what you say your doing with the peels/cores. Thanks for the vid

I'm not sure what you plan to do with the collected skins & cores. Would you let us know? I watched another channel today & she said do not throw the skins away because you can make your own pectin. I'm not sure about that one. But she has made pear and apple syrup.

I wonder if we could use Kambucha in place of the ACV?? What do you think? Im thinking in terms of running out of it or in a SHTF situation

Thanks for the video. I really like fruit butters especially pumpkin butter. I have a couple questions. When you do this do the pears have to be ripe? Also I have never canned anything before although I do want to get the tools I need and try it at some point but I was just wondering if I can make this and just put them in jars and then in the refrigerator and if so how long will it last in the fridge? I really would like to make this if I can do it without the canning process. Have a blessed day.
@beccablueeyes997 жыл бұрын
TheLadySurvivor the length of time in the fridge is the same once opened after canning. So you can just make this and have it in the fridge for 1-2 weeks. Would really just depend. It would be similar to jar applesauce and such, except without the preservatives. The pears should be ripe because the fruit has more flavour and natural sugars and juice. Hard and under-ripe fruit would mean the amounts for the other ingredients would need to be altered.
