A very ingenious piece of gear! I really like the can/bottle opener built into the knife. The whole kit makes more sense when it's understood that military mess kits weren't made primarily for cooking, but for receiving prepared food from a field kitchen. That's why both halves can be carried by the handle.

The Esbit Coffee percolator looks like a nice piece of kit. I'm about going as light as I can so I just carry a couple dozen Folger's Coffee Singles (like individual Tea bags, but COFFEE) that I brew in my U.S. canteen cup - beats the hell out of instant ! During the recent Hurricane Ida, I used my Esbit stove and two small candles to make my coffee (didn't want to lite Esbit cubes in the house). The Yugo mess kit looks great as well. I could carry my instant Oatmeal in that. Enjoyed your video. Subscribed.

Glad it was helpful!. Much better results placed on a bed of coals for cooking, a stove pot stand can be slippy on the enamel type coating of the cook cup, so ensure you level the ground with your heel, before trying it out....b

only just got my yugo mess kit yesterday, I'm made up with it so far, as I seen a video (it might have been foxy51) showing how the big British mess tin caxn fit the cook pot and water bottle inside it (got a frying pan then) and also fits in the plce utility/waterbotle pouch, don't throw the flimsy original pouch out though as it's also a Millbank bag:) I'm in the middle of makeing a lid for the cook pot out of the small square mess tin as your video popped up on my notification, your hexi stove set up is simler to mine, but I've cut the bottom out of mine so it fits over a trangier (upside down) and I use my tobacco tin for solid fuel mostly, great vid ATB

Great set up mate, I will adapt my rope tin for a loger burn and I have toyed with using the commando mess tin with it. Love the millbank idea, I will defo pinch that idea and claim it as my own.....Only messing LOL I have made my lid from a tin foil buffet plate and made a handel and air vent slits, took only 5 minutes to make and was free, as I found the tin buffet tray. Be lucky Stinky fin (love the name)...Peace Bex

A bit late with this reply I know. I first saw a review of this cook-set on another bushcraft channel, (Helsinki Pop), it mentioned there I believe that this kit was aluminium not steel as stated in this video. I personally don't like cooking with aluminium, especially, spicy, acidic foods with the alleged connection with Alzheimer's. I prefer stainless steel. The little stove itself seems rather time consuming for what it does, is the rope in the small tin made of asbestos? I've seen others use either a trangia stove, or a can of lighter gel that can be refilled and resealed and this would seem a better option, in my opinion. Having said all that, I found this an interesting video. Regards, and best wishes.

Yup, aluminum pot. That might turn some people off. The bowl, for lack of a better term, is good for eating out of. Though if the food you cooked up is very hot, a glove would be a good idea for whichever hand is holding the bowl. I know of at least one individual who carries some aluminum foil underneath the bowl when the mess kit is packed up. Makes for a decent pot cover when boiling water.

@@NGMonocrom aluminum contaminates the food and MAY cause Alzheimers. why take the chance when steel has no where near the contaminates, and can be seasoned similar to cast iron further limiting the contaminates while giving a easy clean very stick resistant surface?
@NGMonocrom
@NGMonocrom 5 жыл бұрын
@@carls.6746 Actually, yes; I'm aware of the studies conducted on aluminum. And I agree with you. But if we're simply discussing this particular Mess Kit, there is no stainless steel version of it (Unfortunately). Plus, all those studies focus on prolonged use of aluminum products possibly causing Alzheimers. Such a Mess Kit should be fine for rare use outdoors. Would make an excellent solution for a Bug Out Bag. You have your utensils, one of your water bottles, and the only metal cooking container/water boiling container all in one compact and very inexpensive kit. My main Mess/Cook Kit is a modified Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set. I got rid of the two green cups inside of it, placed a GSI Outdoors Glacier SS mug underneath it, (nests nearly perfectly there and the lid on the Stanley is a perfect fit on the mug) and various items inside. Including an $8 mini stove, a small butane fuel canister, mini scrub sponge, bit of olive oil, cloth, and even a Ti folding spoon. Maybe a couple of other items too. The whole thing needed a stuff sack which ironically was the hardest item to find. Found one that is almost a proper fit. It's fantastic.... But it's heavy. The issue with Stainless Steel is that it's going to be too heavy for many folks. Titanium is an excellent solution. But costly. Again, you don't have a full kit out there like you do with this Mess Kit. I do have a U.S. GI Canteen kit I put together years ago. It comes close. Modern BPA free kidney-shaped canteen, SS canteen cup, SS stove, Canvas cover and water purification tabs in a small pocket on the cover. Close, but no plastic bowl you can eat out of; and assembling everything individually cost me quite a bit of money. It's nice that the canteen, cup, and stove all nestle together. But not viable for someone on a budget.
@carls.6746
@carls.6746 5 жыл бұрын
@@NGMonocrom for a small or fast bug out bag where the bare essentials being as light and functional as this all in one kit is, you are absolutely correct. titanium is pretty good as well but cant be seasoned so just like aluminum will be harder to clean. if you cook with seasoned steel or cast iron with coconut oil then you will have extremely easy clean up such as all that is required is to wipe out with a paper towel and done. unless of course whatever your cooking makes a lot of grease or has sugar in it for instance cooking up some maple sausage. titanium cant be seasoned. however in my opinion the only titanium you definitely should spend the big bucks on is a heavy cover or keith usgi canteen mess kit, which is just a canteen with a small cook pot for storing and boiling water without contaminating that water for those that really like backpack hiking and camping. titanium for cook pots for soup and stew is a really good option but for a cook pan hands down steel. if you want a titanium cook set go to amazon and get the healthpro titanium cook set for less than $50 and it comes with 2 pots and a pan that can be used as a double boiler. its the same Chinese titanium as toaks without the price, toaks just has better marketing.

The concept of Yugoslavia, as a single state for all South Slavic peoples, emerged in the late 17th century and gained prominence through the Illyrian Movement of the 19th century. The name was created by the combination of the Slavic words "jug" (south) and "slaveni" (Slavs). Yugoslavia was the result of the Corfu Declaration, as a project of the Serbian Parliament in exile and the Serbian royal Karađorđević dynasty, who became the Yugoslav royal dynasty. The country was formed in 1918 immediately after World War I as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes by union of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs and the Kingdom of Serbia. It was commonly referred to at the time as the "Versailles state". Later, the government renamed the country leading to the first official use of Yugoslavia in 1929. King Alexander On 20 June 1928, Serb deputy Puniša Račić shot at five members of the opposition Croatian Peasant Party in the National Assembly resulting in the death of two deputies on the spot and that of leader Stjepan Radić a few weeks later.[6] On 6 January 1929, King Alexander I suspended the constitution, banned national political parties, assumed executive power and renamed the country Yugoslavia.[7] He hoped to curb separatist tendencies and mitigate nationalist passions. He imposed a new constitution and relinquished his dictatorship in 1931.[8] However, Alexander's policies later encountered opposition from other European powers stemming from developments in Italy and Germany, where Fascists and Nazis rose to power, and the Soviet Union, where Joseph Stalin became absolute ruler. None of these three regimes favored the policy pursued by Alexander I. In fact, Italy and Germany wanted to revise the international treaties signed after World War I, and the Soviets were determined to regain their positions in Europe and pursue a more active international policy. Alexander attempted to create a centralised Yugoslavia. He decided to abolish Yugoslavia's historic regions, and new internal boundaries were drawn for provinces or banovinas. The banovinas were named after rivers. Many politicians were jailed or kept under police surveillance. The effect of Alexander's dictatorship was to further alienate the non-Serbs from the idea of unity.[9] During his reign the flags of Yugoslav nations were banned. Communist ideas were banned also. The king was assassinated in Marseille during an official visit to France in 1934 by Vlado Chernozemski, an experienced marksman from Ivan Mihailov's Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization with the cooperation of the Ustaše, a Croatian fascist revolutionary organisation. Alexander was succeeded by his eleven-year-old son Peter II and a regency council headed by his cousin, Prince Paul.
