Please note, that the materials used for the pads makes a lot of difference with the sound. And: Leather and velour can be interchanged. Also the driver design, materials, open or closed back builds as well as other factors can make a huge impact on the quality you get. High impedance headphones don’t automatically sound better.

Thanks for the video. What I find disappointing about these types of videos is there is a lot of talk centered around the power requirements vs impedance. But I have not really found a video that goes into the benefits/issues with choosing each of the impedances. Impedance is simply the resistance of an AC electrical signal. Resistance, on the other hand, is used to describe resistance to DC voltages. Kind of the same, but not totally. When circuits are designed, they are designed to support a specific impedance. It is important to match the impedances of your output device and your receiving device i.e. speakers or headphones, in this case. A mismatch of impedances will result in reflected waves and will cause distortion and less power getting to the speaker or headphone. So why don't they design all equipment to match lower impedance speakers/headphones making it easier to drive them. Well just like everything there are engineering tradeoffs. Low impedance circuits are cheaper to make but and are nosier than high impedance circuits which cost more and produce lower noise levels. Lower end consumer equipment is not designed as robustly as professional equipment (read overall quality) and thusly support lower impedance headphones. Very high end audio equipment is designed with low noise more expensive components (read overall higher quality) and at higher impedance levels for the lower noise. So bottom line is can most of tell the difference? Well maybe? It depends on degree. Modern consumer equipment is still very good. It comes down to matching the earphones to the equipment you have. So yes, indirectly that is about power as the ability to drive a device, in this case headphones, is directly related to matching the impedances of the output circuits to the speakers/headphones. Needed power is related to the matching of ouput to device impedances. If they match, you will get maximum power transfer. If they don't match you will not. Therefore it may seem as if you just need more power to drive a mismatched pair. While it is true that more power may overcome a mismatch in impedance to produce more volume, it comes at the cost of clarity, noise, and distortion. Bottom line, choose the headphones or speakers that match the devices you are using to drive them. RTFM (Read the ummmm fine manual) and find out what impedance your device is designed to use. When they match you win, when they don't there will be a price to pay in terms of signal quality. So even if you add a headphone amp, you still need to pay attention to the specs of the amp and what impedance headphones the manufacture recommends. This may mean purchasing more than one pair of headphones for a specific use. It's not practical to assume we can successfully use the same headphones for our phones, gaming, audio production, and music. No one size fits all.

Why is 250 Ohm better for critical listening? What can higher impedance do or quality provide that lower impedance cant? Like what is the quality difference do you hear in the 250 vs 80 ohm?? All three headphones are the same price currently on Amazon in the US right now. But higher ohm doesn't necessarily mean better...?
@naveen49262 жыл бұрын
what i have heard is this. often high end audio gear have parts that take lot of Voltage and in those situation the headphone with low impedence like 32 ohm often hear distortion or might even get permenantly damaged. high impedence can handle more V which comes with some high end studio equipments. so if you do end up using 250 ohm, you require something good to drive it so it ends up sounding better also without distortion.
@Nghilifa2 жыл бұрын
Higher impedance headphones require more voltage. This is a good thing when you're mixing because the sound will have more "headroom" as they call it. It basically means that the signal won't compress easily and introduce fuzz / distortion when it's not supposed to. This "flatter" response means that the sound you're hearing is more neutral, which is great for mixing, because you want to mix from a neutral standpoint, not a standpoint from which the sound is already "colored" (too much/little bass/highs/mids).

TL;DR, more ohms = less interference & less volume. The more power a headphone requires, the more it scales down low power interference. More ohms also means a wider voltage range your amp gets to play with. But a lot of cheap amps themselves will start to distort after a certain volume (voltage gain). I would say just find an impedance where comfortable all day listening is 50% volume, and you’ll get the best of both worlds with some headroom to turn it up once in a while.

currently using the dt 770 pro 80 ohms and dt 990 pro 250 ohms and for my pc i dont need an amp at all, it's not only loud enough, it is LOUD. you do not need an amp for 250 ohms if you are using it for pc (although if you want your headphones to blow your eardrums off you can get an amp), 80 ohms is good for for pc and it works on mobile devices without an amp but i feel like there's a slight decrease in quality on mobile.

From personal feedback, I've heard that the 80ohms version will work great with it. - Jeremiah

Does the DT 770 PRO 80 Ohms sounds better than the 32 ohms ? Thx. I want to use them for FLAC
@lemasta55533 жыл бұрын
yes but if you care a lot about clarity go with the 250 ohms as long as you can power them.

I’ve a focusrite solo 3rd gen and an Apollo twin X on windows. What should I choose, 80 or 250 ohms?

The focusrite if buspowered only goes up to 200ohms but it'll probably work but not be as loud

Thank you for the informative video. I have a Behringer XR18 digital mixer and its headphones output impedance/level is rated at 40 Ohm / +35db (stereo). Which DT 770 PRO should I consider? 32, 80 or 250 Ohm?
