beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro listening test! (vs ATH-M50x)

Excellent video production! I notice from your channel that you are not a hifi reviewer which may explain the big mistake you made in your review and in your sound assessment of the DT770's. The 80 Ohms version is quite difficult to drive and the Fiio BTR5 (especially single ended) cannot run these headphones properly. The DT770's are quite neutral and not bass focused but the main reason you assessed them as being bass light and bright in the treble is because the BTR5 is woefully underpowering them. The Fiio M15s even in DC mode can't quite get there and I have to use my Fiio Q7 in Ultra High gain mode to get the best out of my DT770's. It might be a good idea to remove the link for the BTR5 from your description so that viewers don't make the same mistake that you have. Sorry for being critical but it's true

If you want more sub bass and slightly tamed high's, check out the Dekoni Choice Leather pads for these headphones. I have the DT770 Pro (80ohm) with the Dekoni pads and I love them. Beyerdynamic does a lot of their tuning with their pads, so changing to different pads changes the tuning quite a bit. The songs you were saying you weren't hearing any sub-bass was literally punching my in the ears, definitely getting that deep rumble. A good track to listen to if you are listening for the sub bass IMO is Nelly Furtado's "Say It Right".

i tried those pads and it did a nice change on the bass but I hated the texture and they get sticky and hot. The stock velour is very nice instead

If you hear no bass from D770's you are doing something extremely wrong my friend.. I used m50x and they have more punch in midbass, but dt770's are much more prominent in sub bass.. And overall I do prefer them to m50x's which I loved for years..

Did you use the 80 ohm or 250 ohm version ? the 80 ohm apparently has way more bass. If you used the 80 ohm one , it could be the seal. If you don't seal right (There's a particularily difficult spot just below your ear, where the jawline meets the neck) low frequencies are lost as the sound pressure equalizes. Also try it without the glasses.

80. I think you're right about the seal and how it affects the way the bass/overall sound. It sounded slightly better with glasses off, but also I'm blind af without them lol

@@b3naquaAlso, most monitoring devices need to be broken in for a while first. Usually relaxes the highs a bit and evens out the response overall. I have the 280ohm DT990 pair, and they're definitely a lot more even after the couple years I've had them. (Doesn't take THAT long to break them in, but you get what I'm sayin lol)

The DT 770 were around before you were born. The type of music you listen to has been eq to sound good on a mobile phone or tablet. Your dac does up fidelity but what you are hearing is the shortcomings of the recording as the headphones expose that. You also use the term sub bass. Sub bass is something you feel and not hear and that would be through a proper audio system with a true dedicated sub woofer and not a pair of headphones. The M 50X is simply tuned to appeal to your generation of music lovers. Great video though 👌

I like the 770's has far the bass, well have had them up high enough to feel the bass in my chest, that passes my test. Another thing I like is they don't lie, if it is a bad recording you know, they don't cover it up by being tinted one way or the other, you hear what the recording gives you, they are clean.

they are basically made for rmixing and mastering because of the flat frequency response, so if you cannot find that base thats the answer. They are perfect of for the studio. BTW, if I was you I would mix with the M40X over the M50x. the 40 has a flatter frequency

Naah they are garbage for their hyped title. Mids are very loose, you can't hear them properly. And the harshness is just too much. I had to sell mine after 2days of getting them.
