Fun Fact... This album was actually Act i, initially, and Renaissance was meant as Act ii. Due to the pandemic, Bey decided to hold off on putting this one out. Once the shutdowns ended and we were able to get "back outside" she and her team decided that RENAISSANCE should go out first - because it was what the world needed. Dance, free expression, fun and partying. So this county genre-blend album has just been sitting for a few years and was supposed to be the FIRST album release, which is WILD when you consider it.

I enjoyed Cowboy Carter, and understand that while it has many Country references, it's not faithfully or conventionally Country. It's loudly rebelling against categorisation and genre convention in many places, and I think that was the intention. The album ended up being a commentary on genre itself, with clear a didactic purpose to "bury old ideas" and encourage the listener to question and critique genre, and ultimately recognise how imperceptible genre becomes once you dare to toy with its conventions. I will say there are a lot of Country Purists who dismiss the majority of Country radio today. Then you have plenty of Country acts who struggled to be embraced by Country radio, Kacey Musgraves was one of those artists, so was Zach Bryan, so was Tyler Childers etc.

Ahhhh JOLENE IS NOT about Jay-Z! It’s about Matthew, Beyonce’s father. She’s singing this from her mother’s perspective! The clue is in the fact she said something along the lines of “I’m a girl from Louisiana”, which her mother’s from and we all know her father cheated. Now it makes sense. That said, DAUGHTER, the track that follows immediately after JOLENE is talking about Beyonce’s own fantasy of what she wants to do to Becky (with the good hair) that’s why she named it “daughter”. It’s genius when you think about it!

She’s just in her own lane we see so many artists do exactly that but not get the same backlash she gets. I understand why people got so much to say about Beyonce. Reading these comments a lot of people seem not to understand what Beyonce is doing with CC. Her message. Here references in the songs. Well if you are a causal listener to Beyonce music you won’t get it. If you don’t know some music history. You don’t get it. For example, “cowboy” is what they called the black ranchers back in the day and cowhands is what was classed the white ranchers. The term “boys” is used to dehumanize black man. Also carter has a meaning beside her last name as Carter is a person that sold a lot of balls country music. Also Beyonce does not do interviews. She is not going on podcasts and such explaining this to people. Her real fans and people who understand music rather if they like Beyonce or not get it. I don’t think Beyonce needs to do more interviews but I think people are confused because she is just on such a high artistic level. We don’t have as many artists in the music industry with her level of popularity really pushing their creativity.

I honestly enjoyed this album a lot. It's not the twangy southern country sound I had been expecting. It's such a nice blend of Bey's pop and hip-hop sound blended with country. I'd be interested to hear her go full country just for an experiment. She's such a powerhouse that I feel like it would be so good. Daughter and Spaghetii are my two personal favorite tracks right now but the whole album is great. Her cover of Jolene is simply divine.

I don’t think the album is meant to be sonically cohesive, she took a page out of the Beatles white album and Prince’s Sign o The times album who dove thru different genres without it connecting.

I think she’s just trying to appeal to certain parts of her white fans after her black / gay black/ gay support albums ( which I loved), the fact that y’all don’t see that is funny - it’s like a ‘ hey guys, I still get y’all ‘ , also funny how suddenly the hair ain’t blonde on the cover, though that dirty blonde is her signature hairdo. 🚬🗿

Got a listen to Katy Perry's "Roar" - unlucky timing at supermarket. It sounds as if the same Guido's that wrote Bs "Single Ladies" had a hand in that nightmare racket.

I’ve been waiting for your review. I figured you likely say with the album for a while to analyze it. What I will said is that black people are the pioneers of country so her place in the genre should be embraced especially following the CMA’s. Songs like Spaghettii and The Linda Martell Show leading into YAYA focus on the concept of genres. The latter songs on the album coming off as Renaissance coded may have inspired the Renaissance album since CC was recorded for first - originally planned to be act i.

Can we stop being surprised a Canadian singer did country music? I find it super silly !!! Canada actually has a very rich country culture and history ! Especially in Calgary alberta Canada and many differ areas in Canada! Our cowboy culture goes wayyyyy far back to the colonial time.. therfore stop bringing up Shania twain like she shouldn't be doing country music .. she grew up in a small town in Ontario Canada that is very country area!

She put on a cowboy hat and put out song country songs. It's not groundbreaking. The smaller artists gets ignored when a major act come thru
