Its 2024, and people still don't know Beyoncé. Beyoncé is a star listed vocalist by vocals experts,( and the only one of 21 century among famous singers), a mezzo with 4 octaves, she goes very low and very high, she is the singer who sang the most different rhythms in history, none of Her albums sound like each other, and none have just 1 rhythm, each track has a different rhythm. Christopher Pagan First of all, no Mariah isn’t the standard..the golden standard is still Whitney Houston. Second of all, Mariah was using dubbing and lip syncing her entire career...why do you think she has toured far less than the other 2 women in the vocal trinity?? Mariah was a good studio artist but live--and I do mean 100% live--Mariah was not consistent. Now we all know Mariah has nodules...people have said that for years. However Mariah could not give back to back to back tours with back to back to back live amazing performances like Whitney. There wasn’t a need to bring up Mariah but since you lambs did, let’s tell the truth and shame the devil.
@christopherpagan87815 жыл бұрын
Jo Buck87 I am not a lamb. Lmao. Mariah Care is the musical standard as far as stardom. I said she is also a cautionary tale because if you don’t take care of your voice as you should you’re inconsistent. No one said it in that light. Leave it to someone else to blow things out if proportion. Relax. Whitney Houston was not part of my argument, that is your opinion. That’s great.
@TvOfMike5 жыл бұрын
Jo Buck87 Woah no no no. Whitney vs Mariah in her prime. Mariah wins and wins again. Mariah’s decline is due to her vocal nodules swelling from her evil ex husbands abuse making her sing sing and sing. She never got rest and her nodules were the reason and still are. Her range is still there it’s just about how much rest she gets and how lubricated her cords are. When she sings in the shower she can still effortlessly slide into ALL her range and sound just as she did when she was in her prime.

Beyoncé has always been a smart vocalist. Considering the fact, she's a touring artist, and has to preserve her voice. The rap singing was simply a stylistic choice. Her bottom register might have expanded and gained more depth. However, her agility and range are still intact. She can still access her upper register when needed. Her voice type usually goes through this evolution in their late 30s and early 40s.

But I also think that the fact she’s dancing most of her shows plays a huge role in her approach to music ! You can’t belt out for a 2 hour show while dancing and doing that for 23-24 years ! Her technique now is near perfection and she’s being smart by doing less vocal demanding songs right now so she can rest her voice and readjust it after her pregnancies! Her head voice is now fuller and darker and opera-esque, and even on her last tour you could see that her mixing was even more balanced now ( she was mixing G5 and G#5 in freedom like crazy ). She’s one of the only artists who can actually find every positive within her voice throughout its change and maximize it! After she had kids, Beyoncé’s voice did get deeper in terms of comfortability, but notice it never got a sense of dryness or any negative effects, because she always sang within her given range her whole career. She planned her whole vocal progression by never straining live, and going deeper or doing a melismatic run to avoid staring a top note. She knows as a mezzo her voice, kids or not would get deeper, and she decided to adjust her discography to ensure she never strain her older work. A vocal QUEEN

Can you do Mariah Carey next? There is so much there to cover the dynamics, building a vocal structure, pushing passed vocal limits. understanding of vocal colors, multiple vocal changes, vocal decline, adjusting to a new voice. All kind of wrapped up in a cautionary tale of what happens when you give 100% of your voice without pulling back and reserving some of it.
@oneilgerald5 жыл бұрын
I might! But there is a heavy culture of dishonouring voices because of challenges experienced. It's hard to talk about a singer's challenge without providing wood for the fire of public scrutiny. If I do Mariah Carey, it probably won't be what people would want it to be.
@YohaBroha905 жыл бұрын
@@oneilgerald Yeah I can understand that. Although, I do think objectively in her particular case there are ways to discuss the changes without there being any dishonor. She herself has said make sure you understand when to say no and when you need rest. I think the way in which you discuss these subjects in whatever manner you would handle her as a topic would be respectable. Plus Mariah just had a 25 year old song go number one so there is volumes to be said about her artistry. @taytaybeynippy4865 жыл бұрын
I really hate the notion people in the comments are speaking about Beyonce's vocal choices in. Making songs that are less taxing, and less demanding doesn't equal her having a vocal disability of some sort. Ever since 2017 I think the truest representation of Beyonce's current voice and it's limitations has been shown to us only on the Homecoming live album. Otherwise everything she did from her collab with Ed Sheeran to Jay-Z's 4:44 album to "Everything is Love" to "The Gift" have had an evident level of restrain and strategic vocal arrangements for the sake of not over working her instrument in world tours and live settings as was stated in the video. So if we were to think of what was done on the Homecoming live album as Beyonce's full vocal capacity in its current state then the shift isn't in anyway as dramatic as many are making it out to be. She is still in perfect shape to tackle most of her older discography in my personal view. But regardless I personally want her to put that same expressive energy that she had in her mid 20s to early 30s into her current music. Doesn't mean she has to sing that same range just in those same manners of putting her all into the recordings. But lower them into comfortable keys in live settings or even mash them up with other songs if they seem too demanding in their entirety. Which is basically what she's always been doing all along in her live settings.

Thankyou so much for all the work you are doing! This series was phenomenal and so educational. I've been listening to Beyoncé since No, No, No and it's always so refreshing when the conversation centers the music, the voice, the creativity! From 4 onwards she has become even more fearless with her music. She's always been sanging, but I feel like she had a need to prove herself and show off her full vocal prowess. Way too many people would discredit what she could do, and time and time again she would prove them wrong. I think by the time self-titled came out, the shifts in her voice were happening but there was also a shift in intention and creative decisions. So while I loOOOooove the soulful big ballads, it has been so refreshing and quite bold to hear her recent music where you can tell that yes her voice is changing, but she also doesn't feel the need to be put into a box of just r&b/soul. Between the expansive genres on Lemonade, rapping as much and as hard as Jay on Everything is Love, reinventing what a Beyoncé ballad can be and exploring music across the diaspora on The Gift, I am an so excited to see what she does on her next solo album.

Great series! You did a formidable job and I really enjoyed it. I'm surprised you didn't touch on her voice in the 90s. It seems to me that her mature voice has some similarities with that era, although it sounds a bit darker. Her Dangerously In Love and Bday eras were significantly different from her earlier sound, because she switched to a more nasal and shrill placement in her upper belts, while refraining her exploration of her lower register. Her rendition of Silent Night and her song Brown Eyes (both recorded in the 90s) could actually pass for songs she recorded with her current mature voice. She's always had a strong lower register, but the maturation of her voice is encouraging her to utilize all of her range to its maximum potential, which I really enjoy.

As a singer I lost my voice for 7 months due to over-singing 🎤 🚫... I gained it back but I'm now more cautious ⚠️ of my vocal chords.

I'm happy for you. I was part of a music group and my voice got so strained cause we were preparing for a competition, it was raspy when I had to perform and sadly I couldn't do my best, even sadder it took a while to heal and I feel like my voice hasn't completely healed

I was (and still am) actually writing an online course so that I could actually make some money off of my KZbin creation. (I don't make anything from these videos). I love these videos, but they take time that I don't have if I'm making nothing! So consider buying the online course and supporting the vision for music education! musicbydezign.teachable.com/p/musical-awareness ☺

Its not her voice that’s changing its the type of music & genres that are popular in the industry. The early 2000s were popular for slowish songs with faster Beats. Think of Ashantis Only You or Destiny Childs Say my Name. The 2005s was popular for fast music with good beats. Think of Ciara’s Like a Boy or Beyoncés Upgrade You. look at the difference between Lemonade 2018 and her self titled album BEYONCÉ in 2013. Two completely different works of art. When BEYONCÉ was produced hip hop was taking over the charts I believe she used that influence to produce her album as you can see in Flawless and Drunk in Love. However with Lemonade the genre of music changes again compare it to SZAs Garden to Beyoncés All Night. The chill R&B movement was starting to take place and being woke was also a trend and her albums were a combination of both of them. I believe Beyonce just very adaptable and able the blend into what ever is relevant at the time. Rihana in 2005 with SOS is way different than Rihanna in 2016 with You Needed Me. Sometimes when the artist develops so does their music.

Wow. This video was really well researched. Do you think you can do an analysis on how Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga have experienced a vocal change too.

This explains why I'm not so crazy about her anymore. I guess i was a fan of her Upper register and over the years, her voice has gotten lower and lower pitched to the point where she is rapping more and singing in a talking manner. She honestly lost me but it's very smart and wise of her to adjust her music to her new matured voice. She's definitely gaining a whole new audience. She'll remain Queen though ❤️❤️👑👑

She sounds much better live than in the studio.
