Wow this was an incredible video. I agree, what Beyonce has to do is embrace and find ways to use the voice that she has now to it's fullest potential musically. It's ok if she doesn't have the same access and ease in her upper belts if other aspects of her voice mature and is used effectively. The outro of Otherside is the perfect example. People focus on the ease on how of her lower register but I focused on the purpose of why she used it. Her lower register was used to project a somber and solemn tone. It fit the composition and she progressed into her belts, it projected a "cry" out to God(that's what she was singing in Swahili) and she wasn't at the highest of her belting range, tone was at its fullest projecting a dramatic tone character that brought sincerity to her phrasing. That's how I want Beyonce to use her present instrument(her voice). She's at a point in her career where her voice isn't what it was during the B'Day-Beyonce eras of her voice but her musicianship is at the highest level it has ever been IMO and we're going to get even better vocal performances from her. It's exciting to me which is why I wrote this long post. Again great video and great conversation piece!
@joy50165 жыл бұрын
Curtis Williams - exceptional post. I’m not a vocalist or trainer but I do know that I prefer her darker tones more than when she sounded light. It could be bias though because I have a “brown” speaking voice (that’s what everyone says) so I guess I’m just attracted to that because of how I sound when I speak.

honestly this is so important for a vocalist like Beyoncé who’s been belting out high notes since she was a teenager. her voice absolutely is growing and changing which is totally normal. i’m glad she’s taking care of her vocals like this cause it’ll be in tip top condition when she’s much much older. aging like fine wine yes ma’am!

I think some people take observations as criticism sometimes, and there's this odd subtle backlash that shouldn't exist. I'm a fan of Beyonce's too, but her voice HAS changed. Saying that doesn't mean you're a 'hater' or that you're unnecessarily bashing her. It's just a fact. No one is saying this to imply that she has somehow 'lost' it but it's a fact of life that your voice changes with age and other life-altering events, such as pregnancy and childbirth. Besides, O'Neil is a vocal coach and he does this for a living. That's why he's qualified to make these videos. Take it for what it is and enjoy the series. Keep up the good work, O'Neil! When you do these videos, I'm always reminded of how qualified you are to delve deeper into the vocal stylings of these musicians. I can't wait to watch Part 3. I'm sure it's gonna be just as good.

Exactly I agree with what you said at the end this specific era is a nevigational era. She's trying to readjust her self and her voice. Allot of the clips you are using are all from the Coachella performance. If you were to listen to some of her vocals from the end of 2018 like Global citizen and the City of hope performance and even Resentment and Freedom performances from the last leg of the OTR2 tour you'll hear that she gained some of her brightness back. Especially the level of brightness she exuded during the Mrs Carter world tour is nearly gained back at this point.
@divo77785 жыл бұрын
Still that brightness is no where in her new flop album
@ryanjohnson7815 жыл бұрын

@taytaybeynippy4865 жыл бұрын
I didn't know that a side project that included more artist then any other album and debuting at number 2 on the charts makes it a flop, but okay. As for your comment on her brightness the only song that sounded like it was recorded with the Coachella era tone is Spirit. Every other song on that album especially Brown Skin Girl and Bigger sound very bright especially for the fact that they were sung mostly in the 3rd octave yet they still sounded very bright in comparison to the D3s sung in Spirit. It's infuriating getting responds from people with little to no knowledge in vocal pedagogy making affirmative statements on the state of someones voice..

Well of course Gaga did. Her music was a movie soundtrack while Beyonce was an independent project that had no connection to a movie besides it's name. If we were to look at The Lion King's grossing versus A Star Is Born then there would be no comparison to begin with considering that The Lion King generated almost twice the amount A Star Is Born was able to generate. With all that being said what does this conversation have to do with Gaga?!! It's about vocals besides Beyonce's sales are still higher then Gaga as a whole not to mention Beyonce has 20+ grammys I doubt she cares about sales or awards anymore. Not that that matters in anyways since this video has nothing to do with Gaga, sales, or awards, but Beyonce's voice. Plus you don't know whether Beyonce is going to win any awards for this or not.

This series is a godsend. On her own, Beyoncé is such an interesting artist to witness especially having grown up with her music (throughout her solo career at least...I was born towards late ‘98 and unfortunately didn’t necessarily GROW UP with Destiny’s Child as much as others). It takes things to a whole other level when breaking it all down anatomically. I genuinely hope this series is shown in music classes because, no matter who the artist is, topics such as natural changes in voice are very crucial to have.

I love you for this! This is just as amazing as part 1. I hear a change in all of her albums. But that brightness always stayed for the most part. DIL and Bday were the most similar to me in terms of tone. Bday just had a very slight amount more of weight. By the I Am album and era, thats when we got her Woman voice. Still bright, but not as light as her previous eras. By 4, my personal fav, she entered her prime. And I think we got her voice at its very best. She had a very good balance in her voice and shined in almost every area of her voice. By BEYONCE until now, that weight has come in and her voice darkened just a bit and with the slight change/approach in her technique, the A4-D5 is really powerful. High belts take a little more effort now, but I hope with her rest, she'll bring them back with her next album. Id really love to see this with Mariah and Whitney. They too had dramatic changes throughtout their career
