I consistently find myself wondering when discussing Brown's book, what is it that's so explosive, what would be so damaging to the church about Jesus having had a wife while he lived as a man? Surprising because we 'hadn't known' it, sure, but undermining the church's power on earth? How? I think if one were to poll Christians (in the UK or US, for example) and ask them if discovering Jesus had taken a wife would completely erode their faith in the Bible and the Gospels, the answer would almost certainly be no. I just don't see, beyond a very simplistic consideration of general patriarchy, this disclosure would eliminate Christianity from the world.

And parts of the new testament is just a retelling of the epic of Gilgamesh. And this is the world. Stories get passed down from generation to generation. They change a little as they get retold. But this all began many many thousands of years ago. I think Jesus mastered whatever “it” is that makes the power of belief so strong. I think he basically tapped into god. That’s how he was able to perform miracles. He also didn’t agree with the harshness of the synagogue so he preached about change. They were VERY exclusionary. And because the Jewish authority and Romans shit on so many ppl, Jesus had a lot of ppl to preach and teach. But nothing that gets proved or disproved, proves or disproves God. So I always find it silly when Christians REFUSE to watch shows or documentaries that question their religion. if their faith is that strong, watching a 90 minute documentary shouldn’t even shake it a little bit. If their faith is so true, truth shouldn’t make them question it.
