Speaking of bands who lost key members, AC/DC lost lead vocalist Bon Scott, who died in 1980. Then they got Brian Johnson, released Back in Black, and the rest is history.
@21hazza7 жыл бұрын
I'm in the minority but I much prefer the Bon Scott era, I just find Johnson stuff to be cheesy and "too eighties" for my liking.
@OffLeatherWings7 жыл бұрын
Harry Cox Is that really the minority? (I'm genuinely asking, I don't know) because I prefer Bob Scott as well. Back In Black was a great album, but everything after that all sounds the exact same.
@21hazza7 жыл бұрын
Well it depends who you define it. The Johnson era had more comerical sucess. Back to Black and Black Ice both got to number 1 here in the UK. However me and my best friend both much prefer the Scott era.

I actually prefer Bon Scott too. Not saying Johnson was bad at all, but a lot of stuff from that era did blend in quite a bit.

The Rev had an enlarged heart and that's what caught up to him. He even wrote a song called Brompton Cocktail about a man being so sad, he mixes a whole bunch of pills and alcohol to commit suicide. Then when Nightmare came around, he wrote Fiction, originally titled Death, basically as his farewell to the band and recorded vocals for the song before passing, which is why you still hear his vocals on the song.

Coming from a huge paramore fan, I still love josh to death. I think when you said the record label wanted Hayley to have a band I’m like 90% sure Hayley wanted a band and not solo instead of the album so she brought the guys along since they’ve been doing paramore for a bit, the record label screwed up badly making everything about Hayley and I can understand why josh was annoyed about that, I’m glad they are on good terms now 👏

Then Linkin Park searched for a new lead singer and they found Chester later and made him join LP. Kiiara might join Linkin Park, because it was Chester himself who told Kiiara that she could join the band without even joking about it, he was being serious when he told her.

Some classic bands: 1) Pink Floyd: 1a) Syd Barrett (guitarist/lead vocals/lead writer) - fired by the group - drugs 1b) Richard Wright (keyboardist) was fired after the tour *"The Wall"* by Roger Waters. Rejoined (officially) after the tour for *"A Momentary Lapse of Reason".* 1c) Roger Waters (bassist/lead vocals/lead writer) left after the album *"Final Cut".* 2) Deep Purple - Ian Gillian (vocals - left several times) / Ritchie Blackmore (guitarist - several times) / Jon Lord (keyboardist - death) 3) Yes - multiple members came & gone & returned then left. One founding member stayed with the band until his death. Bassist Chris Squire. 4) AC/DC - Bon Scott (lead vocalist) died & was replaced by Brian Johnson (lead vocalist) 5) Lynyrd Skynyrd - Several members died when their plane crashed. Lead Vocalist & songwriter Ronnie Van Sant died in the crash. His brother, Ronnie Van Sant, took over the lead vocalists till this day (on Farewell tour). 6) The Allman Brothers Band - Both Duane Allman (1971) & Barry Oakley (1972) died in Motorcycle accidents. Band carried on with their biggest hit *Ramblin' Man* being released in 1973. 7) Styx - After the top 30 album *"Equinox"* with hit single *Lorelei* and album radio staple *Suite Madame Blue.* Original Styx guitarist John Curulewski left the band and was replaced by Tommy Shaw. 8) The Eagles - formed out of Linda Ronstadt's touring band, Don Henley (drummer) is the only original member left. Joe Walsh joined before *Hotel California* & Timothy B. Schmidt joined before *The Long Run.* Just to name a few bands you might of heard of. 6 of those bands are still touring (in some form) today.

Toto thrived after Jeff Porcaro's death in '92. They really got lucky with Simon Phillips as his replacement (until his own departure in 2013). And before Porcaro's death they went through 4 different vocalists (Bobby Kimball (who returned from 1998-2008), Dennis "Fergie" Fredriksen, Joseph Williams (current vocalist), and Jean-Michel Byron) and thrived. And there was that period where David Paich wasn't touring with them.

AC/DC - loses Bon Scott and then gets Brian Johnson. Go on to record the best selling Rock album of all time and the second best selling album of all time behind Michael Jackson's Thriller. Metallica - Cliff Burton was one of the key architects of their first three masterpieces and was integral to the bands sound. However Metallica were able to recruit Jason and Robert to carry on from Cliff. Def Leppard - lost Steve Clarke but were still able to go on. Black Sabbath - lost Ozzy and then bill but survived and at least had a farewell tour.

I would definitely put Manic Street Preachers on the list- I mean, their main lyricist and spokesman, Richey Edwards, went missing in 1995 after the release of The Holy Bible, and the Manics have been able to still put out great music and even use some of Richey's lyrics that he left behind. The cruel irony about it is that they only reached critical and commercial success after Richey's disappearance, with Everything Must Go and This Is My Truth Tell Me Yours. A 20 year career after losing RIchey, and still going strong is probably the definition of surviving! - Rachel

The passing of The Rev wasn't caused by any addiction... It was accidental overdose... The Rev was suffering from enlarged heart and liver. Though some theories suggest that it was actually a suicide. You see, when you have enlarged heart, you can barely live over 30 years and the death is slow and painful. There's the song Brompton Cocktail (a combination of medicine and alcohol) in the album Avenged Sevenfold which came out in 2007, The Rev wrote it and the song have lines like "I lost my final fight to disease" or "and I take my life tonight 'cause I have the right to die how I wanna"... Also there's the song Fiction which was the last song The Rev created, and the lyrics are basically the goodbye letter The Rev have left for the band and his family. He brought the song to the studio 3 days before he passed.

Adam left Three Days Grace because he didn't enjoy making music with them anymore. They became too concerned about commercial success and radio play, they didn't care about their friendship and making music because they wanted to. It was just about the money, and it was making Adam depressed and feel trapped. That's where the whole health issue came from. You might be wondering how I know this. Well let's just say that I've had a pretty negative experience with Three Days Grace just recently, and I've actually got a lot of dirt on them for multiple reasons. I've actually made myself a name in a small community of fans I'm part of for debunking a lot of this. There's a lot I've exposed from TDG these days. But as far as it goes, Adam's departure was their fault entirely. And Three Days Grace are literal, complete utter douchebags and money hungry snakes.

But did they manage to actually stay sucessful? I haven't heard anything from them since 2009.

Wow... This is coming from a 3DG fan, and i may agree. I just hope they dont pull a 30STM on us. For reference, that means selling out majorly.

For me when I think of this topic Pink Floyd is the first band to really come to mind. Lead singer Syd Barrett left during their second album and they struggled for a bit. But the stuff they're best known for came after Syd left. Later we saw Roger waters leave who had sung and written a lot of the band's materiel. This loss hit harder but we still got The Division Bell which is regarded as one of their best.

Just have to add a personal favourite: Sevendust lost their lead guitarist and main songwriter, Clint Lowery, in 2004. Clint left over creative differences with the rest of the band, and joined his brother's band, Dark New Day. The rest of 7D carried on without him, recruited former Snot guitarist Sony Mayo, and released 3 of their most creative albums in their entire discography: Next, Alpha, and Chapter VII (Hope & Sorrow). Clint rejoined the band around 2009, and has stayed with them ever since, from 2010's Cold Day Memory to today. Also, I find it interesting that every comment that mentions Metallica talks about the death of Cliff Burton (an amazing talent who definitely didn't deserve that fate), but not the departure of Jason Newstead. Sure, he had big shoes to fill, but he was their bassist for 15 years! His departure must have meant something to somebody...

I'll keep it going... Escape The Fate- Ronnie Radke and Max Green Bring Me The Horizon- Curtis Ward Motionless In White- Josh Balz Metallica- Cliff Burton Of Mice & Men- Austin Carlile Falling In Reverse- Jacky Vincent and Ryan Seaman Suicide Silence- Mitch Lucker (idk if they really survived, they're pretty shit now) Panic! At The Disco- Literally the whole band (aside from Brendon)

I really like how you use more footage and pictures throughout the video, some background music would improve this, but I guess it's hard to find fitting songs without copyright.

I miss Ryan. Whenever people talk about him (especially Brenson Urie) my heart just droppes and miss him even more. I really want Panic! At The Disco be...Panic! At the Disco again. Who the hell would think a 4 membered band turn into a 1 person band. As a newer fan, I would rather have a band with more then 1 member. Or have Ryan released new music, AAAAAA Ryan, can't you just drop the album. Where is the album, we need the damn album. I need to cry in Chease Whiz.

The Rolling Stones - continued after dumping Brian Jones. Deep Purple - continued after losing Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan. Manic Street Preachers - continued after Ritchie Edwards disappeared.

You should’ve mentioned Hawthorne Heights and Casey Calvert’s passing. He passed away on their tour bus in 2007 (I believe). Hawthorne Heights is still around today, and have been going strong since at least 2001.

I think, at least for me, my favorite bands who have lost key members and survived would have to be AC/DC, Metallica and Alice in Chains. Anyways, I love your videos, especially the Seven on Sunday series. Keep up the good work!

Someone might’ve already mentioned this but around 2011-2013ish Ryan was actually featured on a single by a band called More Amor and the song was called “Beach Bones”. It was pretty catchy and he sang the chorus. He was also credited for background vocals on the third solo EP by William Beckett of The Academy Is... but he doesn’t stick out much. Then around 2013-2014 he put out some home demos on SoundCloud that were pretty decent. They’ve got that indie electronic vibe and could very much work for future material when/if he puts out an EP or album. I’ve heard also that he works as a ghost writer and has worked with Travis Todd and Sia but I’m not sure how true that is. I know he had a brief band that didn’t last long after The Young Veins called RAM but I’m not sure what he’s up to besides that.

Yo, Ryan does have an instagram! It's @thisistherealryanross. And don't follow that twitter, it was mostly managed by Shane Morris, not Ryan, for the past three years or so... He posted two clips of new songs on ig, and maybe he'll release an album soon? Idk,, some of his friends (Z, Daniel and Ryland) have mentioned that he is making music and that it's good but who knows...There's videos of him in a studio recording stuff, too.

Evanescence has lost a number of key members, and they survived. Ben Moody, one of the founding members, left shortly after they got big with Bring Me To Life and songs like that. Heck, even his replacement as the lead guitarist, Terry Balsamo, left a little while ago and was replaced with Jen Majura. Heck, Amy Lee is practically the only consistent member of the band, and they're still going.

Blink 182 survived in the technical sense for me at least. Blink's alt albums always appealed to me more than pop punk so for me, going from neighborhoods which I thought was a fantastic album, to california is quite the fall. (Although the deluxe was good)
@Yaceen-gu4yw7 жыл бұрын
+SuperTanuma Blink didn't survive without tom at all. I'm sorry but there's simply no blink without tom even if tom can't perform like 15 years ago. It don't feel like blink at all without tom. If tom's iconic australian sounding accent isn't there then there's no blink. This is a lot more +44 and alkaline trio. It sounds nothing like blink. When i saw tom in the thumbnail i got triggered AF. Blink 182 shouldn't be here on this list. There's no blink without the classic enema of the state lineup. I like Matt Skiba(Trust me i'm a huge fan of alkaline trio) but i just don't want matt in blink. His style of songwriting and his voice just doesn't fit in blink. Blink should've retired when tom quit cause there's no blink without the classic enema of the state lineup. I honestly think blink would've been much better if mark left instead of tom and mark got replaced by dan andriano(bassist and co-lead singer of alkaline trio) because dan has a similar voice to mark and dan would fit right in. Tom dan and travis would be a more satisfying line up than Matt Mark and Travis. Matt feels so out of place in blink. I really want new trio music but we won't get it anytime soon cause fucking mark plans on dragging Skiba into the studio later this year to start recording new blink music which sucks. I want new trio music than new blink music even though i like blink more but i don't want any new blink music without tom. Matt honestly needs to get the fuck outta blink cause it's just not for him. I really hope matt can leave blink and just say that it just wasn't for him and also i thought Matt said that once the tour ends with blink he's gonna focus on trio for the next 2 years but yet blink plans on recording a new album later this year. That sounds really confusing. I honestly want new trio music a lot more than new blink music. Matt may end up in a tug of war between Alkaline trio and Blink like Matt has to be with trio and blink in certain days and while Matt is trying to record the next trio album Mark and Travis will need him and won't let Matt record new music with trio then it will cause Matt to leave blink. I hope that happens. I don't want anyone else in blink but tom mark and travis.

I think you missed the biggest one. Brian Jones, The Rolling Stones. He was the original and founding member of the stones, he was their first manager and then he left in 1969 one month before he was found dead at home in his swimming pool. And yet the stones are still on tour to this day.
