Never thought I'd say this and I think it would have been cool to see Led Zeppelin continue. Though as a musician I understand the dynamic that can exist between individuals in a band and there's no way to fake it or get around the feeling and energy that gets created. The magic they created was unique, and, had they continued they would have needed to find the new way in which to let that energy flow again with the understanding that it would be it's own different and unique thing.

Ian Curtis' suicide is probably the saddest story in rock history. He gave clear indication of his intent to end his life in lyrics, but his bandmates thought it was just art. It's certainly tempting to be angry at his bandmates, but I've made a similar mistake. My Father and his brother struggled with drug addiction for a long time, and for the longest time, I was more worried about my Father. About a year before my Uncle's death, my Father had a mental breakdown because he was terrified that his only brother was going to die. While I was heartbroken by the situation he was in, I still worried more for my Father. About a year later, his terror became a reality. My Uncle died from an overdose. I still sometimes feel that there's more that I could've done, but I only think it would've only delayed something inevitable. Ian's bandmates probably only could've done the same thing.

They made two of the greatest Metal albums in history then disbanded after Bassist & soon to be Father Audie Pitre was killed (along with his parents) by a drunk driver. The inclusion of Tom Petty in this retrospective brings a couple of things to mind, one of which was that they did not include the Allman Brothers Band. For some strange reason, I have difficulty thinking of Tom Petty without thinking of Greg Allman after him. The other thing which hits my head is that, unless my information is simply confused, there have been two sets of Heartbreakers in the music world. Aside from the band which Tom Petty led to fortune and glory, there was also a punk band which sprang from New York City’s East Village scene at the same time during the upper 70s.

Some members are so big their Impact means they can’t be replaced. Biggest loss in music is still John Bonham but there is only one John Bonham so no surprise Led Zep couldn’t continue. Lemmy was Motorhead and Motorhead was Lemmy. Freddie’s death ended Queen as we know them. Same for Chester and Chris Cornell.

Joy Division just changed their name to New Order and their style of music from depressing to more of upbeat danceable music.

Soundgarden without Crisht Cornell? Seems impossible. That adding to the list.

wouldnt mind if eddie joined ala temple of the dog. A heavier version of peral jam seems kinda cool.

So no ones gonna talk about Dimebag ?

Repentless Lamb Pantera was already broken up before he died. Yes him dying prevented any Reunion, but it did not break up Pantera.

Another post was already made, but it should be stressed, this list without Type O Negative is a pure disgrace.

INXS, The Eagles (although they had previously broken up before their Hell Freezes Over tour) Mike & the Mechanics, Traveling Wilburys.

INXS regrouped with J.D. Fortune, though they have since disbanded. Eagles regrouped with Glenn Fry's son. In fact, I saw them at their final concert in Houston before the Covid lockdown a few months ago.

Travelling Wilbury's did 2 albums. One with Roy, the next as a tribute to Roy. They never planned to make a 3rd album.

It would be sooo heartbreaking to see your best friend not just a fellow band member but your one true brother losing their battle with life. And yet still trying to jam out.. Even though they are in pain the entire time.. next day gone forever.

How is Queen not on this list? I mean yeah Brian May and Roger Taylor still tour with Adam Lambert but they're not the same without Freddie Mercury as well as John Deacon who retired after Freddie died.
