Never thought I'd say this and I think it would have been cool to see Led Zeppelin continue. Though as a musician I understand the dynamic that can exist between individuals in a band and there's no way to fake it or get around the feeling and energy that gets created. The magic they created was unique, and, had they continued they would have needed to find the new way in which to let that energy flow again with the understanding that it would be it's own different and unique thing.

Ian Curtis' suicide is probably the saddest story in rock history. He gave clear indication of his intent to end his life in lyrics, but his bandmates thought it was just art. It's certainly tempting to be angry at his bandmates, but I've made a similar mistake. My Father and his brother struggled with drug addiction for a long time, and for the longest time, I was more worried about my Father. About a year before my Uncle's death, my Father had a mental breakdown because he was terrified that his only brother was going to die. While I was heartbroken by the situation he was in, I still worried more for my Father. About a year later, his terror became a reality. My Uncle died from an overdose. I still sometimes feel that there's more that I could've done, but I only think it would've only delayed something inevitable. Ian's bandmates probably only could've done the same thing.

The inclusion of Tom Petty in this retrospective brings a couple of things to mind, one of which was that they did not include the Allman Brothers Band. For some strange reason, I have difficulty thinking of Tom Petty without thinking of Greg Allman after him. The other thing which hits my head is that, unless my information is simply confused, there have been two sets of Heartbreakers in the music world. Aside from the band which Tom Petty led to fortune and glory, there was also a punk band which sprang from New York City’s East Village scene at the same time during the upper 70s.

ShreadTheWeapon the Allman Brothers Band continued through the death of Duane Allman and Barry Oakley. I suppose you could say that they ended when Gregg died but, the truth is, they lasted for decades after the death of their most famous and talented member. It was a shock to most people

It also says a whole lot about Greg and his apocryphal reasoning that Duane would not have wanted the group to pack it in.

wouldnt mind if eddie joined ala temple of the dog. A heavier version of peral jam seems kinda cool.

I didn't expect them to be on the list, but one of the greatest punk bands of all time, the Minutemen, broke up when D.Boone died in a car accident. He was the lead singer and guitarist, but shared song writing with bassist Mike Watt who were friends since elementary school. He was just 27. And most lists of the 27 club of musicians who died at 27 years old (Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Amy Winehouse) don't even list him. But check out the album Double Nickels on the Dime. It's a masterpiece.

Some members are so big their Impact means they can’t be replaced. Biggest loss in music is still John Bonham but there is only one John Bonham so no surprise Led Zep couldn’t continue. Lemmy was Motorhead and Motorhead was Lemmy. Freddie’s death ended Queen as we know them. Same for Chester and Chris Cornell.

It would be sooo heartbreaking to see your best friend not just a fellow band member but your one true brother losing their battle with life. And yet still trying to jam out.. Even though they are in pain the entire time.. next day gone forever.

Meredith Kiszka That's probably because the band he was apart hasn't made up their minds on what they will do yet.

All these bands. I used to always want a band. I had a couple, but the last one I was in, the drummer left. He was in another band too. Now in days, for some reason, I don't really care about being in a band. I've been playing on my own, and I actually feel so free! But now, a drummer I met in college jazz band has been bugging me to play. It seems he really wants a band. So I invited him and my old bass player, and it went pretty well.. but deep inside, I just dont have that spark in me. The guys can't even tell. It's strange because, having a band was always one of my favorite things, but now I've been working so hard on my solo music and I feel like I've been progressing so much. Bands take up a lot of my mental focus, and my heart is rooted deep in my solo music. I've experienced playing with fellow brethren live and playing catch with vibes like Kurt Cobain said, but now solo, I feel so free. I can play multiple instruments. But I guess I'll keep jamming with this band I'm in now. They always look at me to write the music, so I guess it's a branch of my solo music. I just feel like I've grown a little. I dont have that band drive I used to. I just find it interesting. I remember struggling trying to find a drummer or bassist back then when I really wanted a band. But now in days when I was happy working hard on my solo music, a drummer is asking me to make a band lol. I'm a picies, so I'm very in tune with things, something in my heart is questioning this, but I also believe in Jesus, maybe he... Maybe I should keep jamming with these guys! What the heck? I can always keep my solo music alive, I mean it's not like that will ever break up, it's always there
