I don't get the point of this tier list. You've taken a bunch of desks from totally different price points and compared them. Of cause the Flexispot entry level desk is doing to be worse than a desk that costs 4 times the price. An entry level tier list would have been helpful as there's 100s of options, especially with all the Amazon knock offs. Equally as useful would be a higher price point tier list. For people looking to drop 1k on something like the secret lab Magnus pro. How does that compare to other options at that price point like the Herman miller options

I appreciate the video for what it is but I was confused to. Price point is just too important to not highlight in every review unless you're just doing a best overall or best under $XXX. The most helpful way to compare would be maybe in the end, mention the lowest available price and then suggest what a fair price should look like based on it's strengths and weaknesses.

Wish you would review the Flexispot E7. It has a heavier frame but has a good price point.
@hemoglobin909 Жыл бұрын
This is a pretty good review, but sadly incomplete. I love the focus on the electronic, motor and frame manufacturers. If most of these makers would be upfront about their choices, it would make it easier for people to choose the best fit. Steelcase Migration SE seems to be the preferred lower-price option rather than the Solo. Sad that it wasn't included in the review. I understand that you can't review everything, but no mention of the Haworth Upseide? Deskhaus Apex ? Evodesk ? Vari Electric ? Ergonofis Sway ? I feel these are all B tier or better and should either have included or at least mentioned. No 4-leg options? They blow Newheights out of the water in terms of stability and are much cheaper. Some can even be had for about the same money as those A-tier. Think you can have a review of those down the line?
@btodtv Жыл бұрын
There will be more tier lists. It's hard to include every desk that our audience might have an interest in learning more about in a single video. It would be VERY long. The good news is that we are consistently putting out content on standing desks again, so you can plan on seeing most products at some point in time. Like mentioned above, no four leg desk options yet. But we will cover them. That's a pretty strong statement about blowing NewHeights out of the water for stability if your only criteria is the desk needs four legs. I have a lot of experience with both types of desks. I was the first to look at these products, with Uplift and Vivistand being the only real options early on in 2017 and 2018. As I explained back then, the four post standing desks that were available were not stable. The new stability issue was created with post legs, since the frame was easily twisted and the post legs moved around too much. My suggestion was adding two feet, to tie together the legs on each side of the frame. I'm glad to see brands have done this now and it will help a lot, but it doesn't guarantee they are all stable. Column fit, having or not having cross supports, wedges or no wedges, poor connections to surface, strength of foot, etc. will all have an impact on how stable they really are. Just assuming four leg standing desks are superior would be short sighted without actually using the desks you're referencing in real life. Especially when you're putting it up against the most stable desk two leg desk we've tested on the WobbleMeter. I'm not saying there isn't a more stable 4 leg option out there, I'm just saying there are other reasons they might not be as stable as you think they are. -Greg
@hemoglobin909 Жыл бұрын
@@btodtv I agree that "4-legs good, 2-legs bad" is a very generic statement that merits expanding upon. As you mentioned, the importance of proper column fit (and quality glides...) and cross support/wedge/etc contruction are tremendously important - the vivistand 4-leg is most defenitly a poster-child of how to do the 4-leg design poorly - however, in those more serious companies offering quality 4-legs like Uplift, Evodesk, Flexispot, Deskhaus and so on, the price difference with Newheights is staggering. But only, as I mentioned, in terms of stability. Not bashing on the quality of their construction and components, the white glove treatment, the long warraty. Those are very well worth the price to the right customer. I guess what I wish would happen with these tier lists is to have a per general price-point tier-list rather than a 200$ hot garbage (looking at you SHW) to 7000$ money-is-no-option comparisons. I can build a 2500$ hackingtosh that stands toe-to-toe with a 5000$ Mac, but for my computer needs, as a general consumer, I'm in the market for what's best at 1500-2000$. Similarly, for standing-desks asking which desk is best at 1000$ + or - 500$ gives you as many options as you have presented here, while avoiding the absolute trash that was included and the out of most people's reach that are the NewHeights S and the Ergonofis Alive. These products are marketed to different consumers. Another tier list could be made for the 2000+/-500 as well and so on. Despite your conflict of interest, I still think that your reviews are great, thoughtful and educational, but I really do wish to see a more tiered tier-list for the different category of people making the rounds trying to figure out how to really maximize their dollars given their situation. I certainly can't spring 7K$ on a desk (I wish :P) , but don't have enough here for a proper decision on which 2000$ option will get me the best desk.

Got a V1 Uplift desk almost 10 years ago and it has been serving me well but now it is time to upgrade from a 48x30 top to a 60x30 or even a 72x30 and I like that I have that option with the frame being expandable to those lengths and with a weight capacity of 355 lbs the hard wood top I have picked out from Lowes will easily work while still being able to support all of my gear on top. The mark up on tops though is crazy considering I can get a full 72x30 butcherblock top from Lowes for about $250 and a similar sized hard wood top from any of the desk brands usually runs an extra $500 to $1000 if not more. Yes the top from lowes is only stained and I still have to apply a finish to it but that is only about another $30 to $60 depending on the quantity and quality of the finish, and yes I have to make sure everything is lined up and drill my own holes rather then having pre drilled holes but $250 vs $740 for the same size and wood type is a crazy difference. I would honestly suggest to anyone that wants a quality motorized desk to see about just getting the frame alone and buying a hard wood countertop of your size of choice. You can get the Uplift V2 commercial frame with the support bar for $550, or even the Vivo frame from amazon for $200 and then check your local hardware store for a top. Just keep in mind a large hard wood top is going to weigh around 70 pounds itself so keep in mind the weight limit of the frame you go with. The cheapest BTOD frame I could find was $740 which tells me they know people could just get an inexpensive wood top so I would avoid that one unless you just want the voice commands. If you dont have a local hardware store you can get a top from or you dont have the ability to DIY the top then I would go with one of the options that offer the best warrantee and in home setup. Though it is going to cost you.

Sad to see Fully shutting its doors. I had planned to buy one of their desks, but this will definitely push me toward Uplift since the surfaces and price points that made Fully a better option are now gone. You guys didn't even mention that for less than 1k your VertDesk3 is lifetime warrantied. the lateral stability bar does effect sitting ergonomics, especially for taller users, but for the price and warranty it is a very solid choice. It would be A tier easily if the lateral bar was more out of the way.
@btodtv Жыл бұрын
Good point. I tried to keep them all as short as possible, but still provide enough info on each of them. Otherwise you'd still be trying to get through the list! I think you would be surprised, based on the position of the cross support on the VertDesk, how it doesn't get in the way. It sits high enough to have your legs easily go under if you tuck in close to the desk. Only with 24" deep surfaces and a VERY tall person tucked in as close as possible (belly touching front edge) would you have a chance to hit your knees. Most wouldn't sit like this on a 24" deep desk though, since you'd be super close to your monitors. But if that was you, I'd consider the deeper surface if you want excellent lateral stability, since a cross support is the only way to do this through max height. Wedges in the upper portion of frame will only get you to about 44" tall. -Greg

Yep, the warranty was one of the reasons I got a Vertdesk v3+. As far as the bar getting in the way, I'm 6'2" and will second that with a 30" top and in a normal sitting position, it doesn't get in the way at all.

Sometimes they show the stability test of some desks as the main criteria to give bad rating to some desks and when the high end brands are not stable, they ignore them and give good rating to high end brands. I got myself the E2Q from flexispot recently. thanks to standing on 4 legs and its massive (thus sadly very heavy heavy, just had to carry it to a different room alone lmao..)it is very very stable, which is something I highly value as someone who while working usually might wanna have an intense gaming session once in a while as well.

Ikea Idasen is a A tier for me. Its insane stable, heavy and big, at lower height its basically a steel heavy table. Im really happy with it, and every time i get to use other brands at work i realize as flimsy and badly build lighter standing desks are. If it had faster motors and better pilot it would be perfect.

Can you please review the deskhaus frames? They look really good
@btodtv6 ай бұрын
No plans to review anything from Deskhaus. Based on how unprofessional the owner of the brand is, I would never recommend anything from them. I would stick to Uplift if you're considering a 4 leg frame from Jiecang. It's the same electronics, motors and gears, with better stability, from one of the largest brands in the standing desk space -Greg

Dumb complaint, but at these prices, there shouldn't be a cord dangling down the back of the desk. Run it up the columns. High end designs should look clean. The manufacturers need to step up their cable management.

I heard on another channel called Ahnestly that the Secretlabs are some of the most unstable standing desks - despite being very expensive. Even a slight bump and everything goes flying. Feel free to look it up.

Great videos thankyou, when you do a tier list with multiple top competitors, could you give your personal choice for which you would buy today. Thats sort of the point of this whole research endeavor for me. so it would be great to hear your opinions since you have gone through all the time and effort to research it and would know best!

this helped me a lot since I checked the IKEA Idasen in the physical store and it was quite unstable 'cause it was terribly mounted.

Hi @btodtv. Is a 2024 version of this video coming out soon? I’m curious if anything changed with the Jarvis since it changed ownership. Also curious about the Autonomous SmartDesk Core. I’m looking for the best “bang for buck” option when it comes to customization, sturdiness, and pre-set heights within the $600-$1200 range. Curious to hear your thoughts!

Most likely the standard v2, unless you need the lower end range and better lateral stability on the commercial -Greg

Worth getting an S tier if it’s bigger because you don’t want a weak motor if you are placing a decent amount of weight on it

You said that Uplift is “still” using a frame made in China. What do you mean by that? Is there a presumption that the quality of it substandard because it’s made in China? If so, that’s narrow thinking.

Best standing desks use Linak system. I know brands such as Hexcal, Herman Miller, Humancentric use original Linak lifting columns

I purchased an 84" black laminate EvoDesk Pro a couple of years back. I'll say that the frame is very sturdy with the four angled uprights and it was easy to assemble. Unfortunately the laminate material they use is subpar and the coating is even worse. It has absolutely zero ability to repel moisture and just a few drops from condensation on a cold drink will cause the surface to bubble up. Sadly they don't offer a hardwood or bamboo top in the 84" size. Im considering getting a replacement black laminate top and sealing it myself with some kind of epoxy. Just a heads up to anyone looking at this brand.

I bought a Fully sit stand desk about 5 yrs ago. I've just been using the stand feature within the last year or so because I work at home now but recently I've been smelling a strange metallic smell coming from the desk every time I raise or lower the desk. Could it be the motor?
