Good review. All the positive reviews I've seen for this film seem to go into interesting detail, all the negative reviews seem to consist of incoherent ranting. Of course I'm biased because I enjoyed it and I thought it worked in it's balance between the interesting themes of android morality established in Prometheus and crowd pleasing Alien nods. Great use of Goldsmith's music too.

I feel like Alien fans aren't getting the bigger picture of what Ridley Scott is doing here. He's literally making a novel through film. Film by film he's revealing the story in small doses until the end where we really look back and witness it's full complexity. Something that we will have never seen before.

Maybe in a sequel he will explain why the Space Jockey's Derelict was carrying Eggs, perhaps that's the real discovery. Right now is "This is why Xenomorphs exists" next is "Now you'll see why the Space Jockey is there in LV.426"

Jordan De Pass And all the butthurt Alien fans who hated Prometheus altered Ridley Scotts vision for the franchise and made him change it to fulfill their nostalgia. I think his original scripts wouldve turned out much better if it weren't for all the snobs complaining about Prometheus and inevitably making Scott re-write 'Prometheus 2' into Alien: Covenant.

Pierre V. Wilson DUDE. I literally wrote a whole review about that. You are 100% right. I thought TFA was visually stunning but the dialogue was pretty weak and it followed the exact same plot line of new hope. Down to ever detail: The hero was an "orphan" on a desert planet, the droid carrying a message, etc.

Return to horror = boring and turned off audiences, this film did worse financially than the "philosophical and over people's heads" Prometheus... shows you shouldnt underestimate audiences so much. People WANT intelligent exploration scifi not just another mindless horror flick. Been there, done that. Rewatch originals if you want that

"pure gore" was never part of the Alien franchise. that's what later movies kept injecting, and allll the latterday movies were exceptionally bad, except _Aliens vs Predator: Requiem_ , which was mediocre.

Really enjoyed it. Ridley Scott never disappoints me and this film isn't an exception. Some minor gripes but overall, a thoroughly enjoyable experience and a worthy addition to the Alien saga. No one does space horror like Scott.

This movie pumped me up so much, I've been waiting since I was 12 to see Xenomorphs on the big screen. Prometheus was super good, BUT this movie was what I wanted. Terror and a unique plot that is smart. The movie was incredible in my eyes, I was 'fan boying' the whole time, from the score, to the images-I was in heaven (even though I was terrified!)

Ad campaigns have turned into miniature prologues meant to set up an idea or theme a filmmaker wouldn't normally have time to gloss over during the actual film, but would like audiences to know nonetheless, hence the reason we're seeing more and more trailers that reveal plot points and moments that don't appear in the finished product.

Ridley's background is in commercials (fun fact, he was at the BBC in the 1960's and worked in same department as Ray Cusick (designer of the Daleks) so he has an amazing "eye" for design. All his films look sensational. It's just the scripts sometimes suffer as he is so focused on every frame.

Hi grace interesting 2 in 1 ❓❓🤔question about the ad campaign here for both the film and in general. You often say movies shouldn't have homework but do the scenes and promotional material here count as necessary homework to gain context for the film or can a general audience understand the film without seeing all the promotional material. Is it also risky for studios to put out material that is not in the movie as a recent complaint from many audiences is scenes shown in the trailers are not in the movie eg. Alien is one of my favorite movie franchise's of all time, and this review got me so excited. oh man, can't wait, it sounds like everything I want in an alien movie (still want that Neil Blomkamp passion project though)
