So I think you have to disqualify all of the movies and songs. Even better, cancel the Oscars. I think the editor only spoke the truth. It’s not his fault, the responsibility should be on their enablers (which include the studios and directors). If he was the only one honest enough to reveal an already existing industry practice, we shouldn't then be surprised if many productions from last year and this year have used AI without publicly saying it. *Spoilers* Fyi, the scene in Agatha All Along's last episode, where the flowers bloom after Agatha’s death, is generated by AI. I am surprised how many didn’t notice it or mention it.

I don’t see the audio stuff as a big deal honestly (unlike - let’s say - Late Night with the Devil using generative AI artwork). Sounds like they used the Respeecher tool as ethically as possible for minor post-production work that many movies are subject to. Additionally, it’s been confirmed by Corbet and the studio that no AI was used to create that architecture reel. I think that if we’re going to take a hard stance against (or even for) AI, we need to have a better understanding of the technology and a better distinction about ethical / unethical usage. Because like it or not, it’s not going away. I’m sure some other awards contenders have used AI-supported tools as well. We know Dune: Part Two did.

It's a shame that a like for like remake of 9 to 5 simply wouldn't work in today's world, and would undoubtedly create (online) controversy from those who would claim it to be "hateful towards men". The film is a cult classic. It came out a couple of years before I was born, but as a kid I remember watching it a number of times on TV here in England. I think I even had it on VHS in the early 90's. The Horrible Bosses comparisons are also very valid, especially with Jennifer Aniston being involved, but the one way it could really differentiate itself from that film would be if it really leans into the musical elements and doubles down on it. I know musicals aren't often the recipe for box office success, but seeing as 9 to 5 had a successful run on both Broadway and here in the West End, a cinematic remake of the film that perhaps plays out more like it's musical counterpart, may also help in softening the hate that will arise regarding the films themes around misogyny? Another aspect, in combating any backlash, could be if it has a meta undertone. If it can also find a way to poke fun at both sides (the male boss AND his female secretaries/PA's), whilst never taking itself too seriously, maybe those who thrive off online toxicity and hateful discourse will also follow suit?

I think voters not even finishing the brutalist will take it out more than AI stuff, I think the architecture stuff even if it is pathetically antithetic to the message of the movie won't affect its best picture chances but imho Adrien Brody's campaign *should* be affected. It is compromised, it just is, if he had more skill he wouldn't have fucked up the accent so it is literally a skill issue, think of it like autotune if they were more talented they wouldn't have needed to use it (should people using autotune win singing competitions?). I'm not naive enough to think everyone will care, but I think it was already somewhat underperforming and I suspect it will continue (and hopefully a bi-product will scare auteurs off it by proxy). EDIT: Brady Corbet's career is... done? Let's not get hasty, we aren't even sure people care yet. That is not realistic, i think he should be dinged *especially* because of his (no offense) sob story about how his movie was so cheap and bringing back capital c Cinema. If you have to cheat, enjoy the consequences. EDITED AGAIN: oh the autotune thing came up later on ha fair play, I do think the karla stuff is a little less bad (not good, mind you) because that performance isn't just singing, where adrien's whole performance is in his performance. Also not surprising sean baker is a bit of a dunce when it comes to intimacy co-ordinators he follows (followed?) libsoftiktok which is a massive red flag when it comes to how he must interact and think about women.

Sean Baker and his wife Sammy Quan were the intimacy coordinators on the set of Anora. Sean Baker also does his own casting - does not work with casting directors. Hollywood isn't going to thrive if every single aspect of film making is forced to create in the same way. Grown adults decided they didn't need to hire an intimacy coordinator for this production and people insist on making something that wasn't an issue into an issue. I'm not sure Hollywood has ever been in such a toxic place. It's not strong enough to fight against AI because they're to busy infighting about non issues.
