Yea, I noticed that too. With stock gearing, Zilla's actually launch faster in 2nd gear, especially on asphalt if you know how to feather the clutch just a little to keep the front end from going up and over.

Just a little bit of work on that Honda 250r and it will beat everything you got there. I have owned all of these quads but only raced with a 250r. There is a reason you don't see that other stuff on the race track in the 90's.

Really nice to see that beautiful Honda 250R...Even with the results of your test I still think the Honda is the best quad of the bunch...I personally have 7 quads and 2 three wheelers so I speak from experience...To bad you didn't have the Suzuki LT250r to have a more fair comparison...I assumed the bigger motors would be faster but was surprised to see the Quadzilla's inability to out run the Banshee. The rm500 engines left over from rm production "that was stopped for good reason" were considered the weakest big bore engines made. No power band hit hardly, lowest hp and torque ratings. Things a slow noisey monster that never got fully developed. Nothing shocking

Dude I assure you either A) the 350 banshee is not stock or B) the 500 isn’t running up to stock specs. We’ve raced multiple 350s back in the day and would drag them by 5 bike lengths and normally lift mid way thorough 5th gear. My LT250R 6spd would beat them if the riders were matched sizes.

I have rode all 3. Each stock and stages of mods. Been riding 30+ years. The Banshee is ultimately unique but I can promise you the LT500 is the funnest, most versatile, and an offroad and hillclimb weapon. This is coming from a Honda fanatic who has several CR500R, 2005AF too, CR250R, etc etc.

@@TheBandit7613 yep. Had the 310 barrel on it for a couple of years in the 90's and could barely keep the front end on the ground to steer it, but it was gawdawful quick. Survived that and after I grenaded it been satisfied with stock barrel ever since, always starts and rarely tries to kill me, although my old ass stretched a hamstring a couple weeks ago came off it sideways on a logging road and it landed on me. My kid's stupid idea to go to the forest. Putting the paddles back on it and leaving them there.

Video takes me back about 20 years trail riding. I had a modded 99 banshee, friend had a modded 250R and another with a stock 500 zilla. My banshee was very snappy but one carb kept hanging wide open. Honda was smooth and ran strong. Suzuki had ton of power but the vibration from engine was terrible.

The banshee is good for drag racing but the fourtrax 250r is a better four wheeler for Enduro or any track racing. The quad racer 500 is OK but I would much rather have a 250r honda

Iv rode them all my favorite for racing is the honda 250r. Trail riding love the Banchee special tuned up with pipes and port work. Iv had LT 250R’s ported piped wicked fun fast machines. Specially 87-92 i believe with the power valve what a engine. I actually had a 85 and LT that would do 100mph great machine. Never spent a lot of time on LT500 but have rode them i believe the 250 with some work was a better all around machine. Fun video thanks for sharing.

No Honda makes a better engine in the late 80 s I have own them all my 250 r 3 wheeler beat them all . 500 Suzuki takes to long to rev race is over .

Of the 250 2 stroke four wheelers, Tecate 4 was the fastest by a decent amount, Suzuki was second and just a tad faster than the TRX. Almost negligible.

I've owned several of all three quads and the TRX 250 is a great all around quad. But it shouldn't be compared to the Banshee or the LT-500 Suzuki. The TRX-250 would be more controllable for trail type riding and not drag racing or riding sand dunes where horsepower is everything. The Banshee has an "all or nothing" powerband whereas the Suzuki has a much more controllable, hard pulling powerband, which brings me to my point, the LT-500 will embarrass the Banshee all day- every day. A heavily modified Banshee with a very light rider is the only way it will run anywhere close to the Suzuki, especially in the sand dunes.

I have an 03 modded trail built banshee. The crazy thing is the 6th gear. My buddy has a newer stock raptor 700. We were both surprised they are almost even in 5th. Banshees are no joke! Suspension is the weak spot on the Banshee. Mine has aftermarket front end, but it still sucks compared to raptor or probably anything more modern.

Old video but new to me, The 250R is number 1 then the Banshee is number 2 the Quadzilla is for farmboys. Stock, I have never heard of a stock quad, no serious sports rider pulls up with A stock bike. The zilla was for farmboys, trail riders, back woods riders. If you were an outback and track guy you had 250R the zilla was not even able to compete in sport quad riding. On the track, you have a 250R or a Banshee if you want to have any chance of competing, and a built one at that. The top speed of a stock bike meant very little, but the potential of the machine is what made the 250R the number one, for at least 10-12 straight years. After Honda stopped making it people searched long and hard to get a 250R people were taking a 250R and building it over the new machines of the late 90's and early 00'. That is how good the 250R was. It was not the Stock numbers that made the 250R the greatest quad ever built for its time, it was the potential and what the machine would do with some upgrades. The Honda engine would just take so much, you could put so much power into that little engine the frame, and suspension could just take so much you could aftermarket the sh*t out of it and it would smile at you. The 250R is the best quad ever built then the Banshee, from the 80's thru the early 00. If you think I'm wrong that just tells me you could never ride to your bike's full potential. That's okay most people can not take any bike or car even close to pushing the limits of its capability, but for those who could ride like that the 250R hands down was the bike to have if you were into quads.

LOVE! the 250R. Prob some day ill have a tweeked banshee because they are coolness. With that said, unless your running alcohol, my 110 tuned modern resto zillia will absolutely embarras "anything" running pump gas. It does, it has, it is. Granted these are all 30 year old bikes. And properly restored they all rule. Most 500s are pigs because most ppl dont know how to build them. Definately few know how to build to last.

I think a 1986 TRX 250R would have been a better representation than an 89. 1989s were the slowest year for them. At that point they had detuned them so badly. Also the 32 to 1 fuel mix is way to rich for all 3 machines especially at 61 degrees out. You can clearly hear it and see it on all 3 machines. I know you wanna save on them but that’s way to rich and you are gumming them up. My guess would be that’s why your first banshee isn’t running right. 40 to 1 would be still a safe mix and way better but tbh I run my 2 strokes 50 to 1 and have no problems.

So freaking sad I just don't get it. Why can't we buy a fuel injected Banshee engine YFZ450R style aluminum chassis quad but we can buy a brand new YZ250??? I know I know but still...why the EFF not? No more dangerous than a 450 4 stroke quad. You can't tell me we are cancelling all 2 strokes either bc you still sell The YZs. BS!! What we really need is an aluminum frame fuel injected TRX500R with counterbalanced updated CR500 engine!!!!!

Nice rides. Qaudzilla pipe stock chokes it down bad. Run 50:1 H1R Honda oil. (32:1 was to keep warranty cost down as I worked for Kawasaki and Suzuki back in the 80's and 90's . My friends and I still hold the dirt bike land speed record on a kx500 stock class. 62.5 whp we had one that made 105whp with no porting or stroking the crank. Pipe on a quadzilla wakes it up mine made 100 crank hp. 7 flat 1/8 at 97 mph . Taking off in faith gear. Loved the video . Lots of fun times back then.

They all have their place.. but after growing up riding all of these.. in many different build styles.. I preferred the Honda.. I ride woods.. GNCC style trails.. The honda was the best by far in the handling department in tight fast trails.. Thats why they dominated for years and years in GNCC with aftermarket everything.. in the late 90s and early 2000's you could build one from a catalog..

The 250R is just impeccable I have the 86 version Red White and Blue and she does not dissappoint. I have had the Banshee guys switch with mine and yes the off the line the Banshee gets a bit more out of it but Mid Range torque they are blown away by its high rev High RPM Quick fast TQ power!!! They tell me that the Banshees power line is short and it will die when its hot and mid range not as good as that 250R

I had a 1985 atc250r that I bought brand new. Drag raced an 87 Banshee on asphalt. Pulled ahead slightly every gear till tapped out in 6th at 75mph, then the banshee caught up and walked on by. I rode the Banshee and couldn't believe how little low end it had, very narrow power band compared to the 250r. They do sound wicked and would love to own one. Still miss that 250r. Thing was a tank, super reliable. Your bikes are awesome & thanks for the video!

You must have rode a ragged out banshee because mine will rip you off the back it pulls so hard that sometimes you have a hard time pulling the clutch lever it and everyone that has rode said it pulls like a crotchrocket
